Take away God’s grace, and have nothing but obedience. Will obedience alone save someone? No, because no one can obey perfectly. Take away obedience and have nothing but God’s grace. Will God’s grace alone save someone? No, because one must obey the gospel (2 Thess 1:8) and one must not live in sin to be saved (Rom. 6:1; Col. 3:5-7, etc etc). So, to be saved by grace you must obey (Heb. 5:9). God did His part by giving grace, and we must do our part to access by faith this His grace to be saved by grace (Rom. 5:2; Acts 2:38; Eph 2:8; Heb. 5:9).
“Take away obedience and have nothing but God’s grace. Will God’s grace alone save someone? No, because one must obey the gospel”

“What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey;

whether of sin unto death, ( option one )

or of obedience unto righteousness? ( option 2)

But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin,

but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin,

ye became the servants of righteousness.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:15-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity;

even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Some are t able to acknolwedge that part yet that they have a choice of who to serve whether sin or obedience .The power we have is to yield ourselves either to Gods Will in Christ through the gospel truth

or to sin which is satans Will for us. Whichever we serve in life is who we belong to ultimately . In Christ we have a choice to yield ourselves to Gods Will revealed in the gospel or satans Will which is sin through our corrupted flesh

If we will submit to God and believe the gospel then he will lift us up where we can’t stand because we’re imperfect

I have ignored the OP, as well as any other Calvinists so I don’t have to deal with their heretical nonsense. It’s disturbing how obedience equals earning salvation to a lot of people, and even more disturbing how these same people usually believes if you have to obey or if it’s conditional then it’s not grace. But they don’t actually think through what that would actually involve, which usually can lead to some form of Calvinism. Or, universalism.

Meeting the conditions of the One who first offers the commands and bestows the grace is not earning anything. It’s simply desiring His will over your own. Although we are to obey, even when we try to obey, we will never obey perfectly like Jesus did, and that is why even our obedience in of itself alone will not and cannot get us to heaven. That is why anybody that goes to heaven is due to God‘s grace and mercy. While we are to obey, we are not to trust our obedience to save us. We are to trust Jesus to save us. If we trust our obedience to save us we are trusting ourselves, and we are going to get let down every single time, but when we trust Jesus, we will not get let down.

We are simply trusting in God to save us as we obey Him (Hebrews 5:9, Matthew 7:21). If the opposite is true, then we can be saved by God by going our own way by being ignorant of God’s righteousness, as we try to establish our own righteousness, but such runs contrary to the Bible (Prov. 12:15, Prov. 16:25, Jer. 10:23; Rom. 10:3)

Was Noah trusting in himself and the ark to save him and his family when he built an ark (Gen. 6; Heb. 11:7)? Was Naaman trusted in himself to save himself from his leprosy, as well as trusting in the water when he dipped in the Jordan river (2 Kings 5:10-14)? Was the blind man trusting in himself when he went to wash in the pool of Siloam (John 9:7-11)? Were the ones of Israel who looked to the bronze serpent on Moses’ pole trusting in themselves (Num. 21:9)? Was Israel trusting in themselves or their works as they marched around the walls of Jericho (Jos. 6:15-20)? In all the examples, as they trusted to submit to the commandments of God, would they have been trusting in their own works? Or would they have been trusting in God by taking Him at His word?

When we follow the holy, authoritative commands found in God's Word, we are not saving ourselves on our own merit. When we follow God's commands, He saves us. We should be thankful that He has graciously given us commands which save, instead of commands which condemn, as He is a God of salvation (Deut. 32:15; 2 Sam. 22:3; 2 Sam. 22:47; Ps. 25:5; Acts 28:28; Rom. 1:16; 1 Tim. 2:4, etc etc). We should be grateful that He has warned us about what we need to avoid in this life to avoid eternal condemnation (1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:19-21; Rom. 6:1; Rom. 6:12; 1 John 3:10).

When we become a Christian and continue to follow Jesus, it isn’t showing how good we are, it’s showing how good He is (Jhn 10:11, 14, 27-28). Following Jesus doesn’t point back to our own righteousness, it points to His (Rom. 5:17, 21). Following Jesus isn’t looking to self for salvation, it’s looking to Him, the author and finisher of faith (Heb. 12:2). Following Jesus isn’t making ourselves the captain of our salvation, it’s Jesus who is the captain (Heb. 2:10). We obey God out of a love, faith, and out of having gratitude that we are saved in Christ. We have reverential love for Him (Gal. 5:6), and it’s by His grace which instructs (Titus 2:11-12). Living for God is trusting God. Living a godly lifestyle is not making it about our “works”. It's trusting in Christ’s work by making it about Him by being conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). All of our good works we do and living faithfully is not making it all about ourselves but about God, as we are His workmanship (Eph. 2:10). Living a Christian life affirms our love to Christ (John 14:15, 15:14). It affirms our devotion to Him. His love compels us (2 Cor. 5:14) to do so and God’s grace is the instructor (Titus 2:11-12). By His grace, He has showed us how.

All of this is confirmation of having a saving faith in Christ, and is confirmation that we have and are surrendering our lives to Him by allowing Him to be the Lord and King over our lives. It is not our works that makes us righteousness (Titus 3:5). It is our faith in Christ that does by the power of the gospel (Rom. 3:22, Phil. 3:9, Rom. 1:16).

As said earlier, living a godly lifestyle is not making it about your “works”. It's trusting in Christ’s work by making it about Him by being conformed to His image (Rom. 8:29). The works of Christ that save us is His death, burial, resurrection, as well as what He has commanded us to do to be saved by Him. All of those are God ordained commandments/works which Jesus taught and which the Spirit revealed to the Apostles, to teach us how to be saved by His grace.

It’s not placing hope in ourselves, but rather, hope in God, as when we live faithfully that is how we let our light shine so that others may see Him in us (Matt. 5:16). That is why God gets all the glory (Psalm 29:2, Phil 2:13). His grace tells us that we can’t live in sin any longer (Rom. 6:1). It teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and teaches us to live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world (Titus 2:12) and teaches us to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior (2 Peter 3:18).

Just as in Moses day, the ones who looked to the pole of Moses that had a bronze serpent on it for physical healing when they got bit by a snake (Numbers 21:8-9..although the bronze serpent in and of itself did not heal them, God did), we must look to the cross of Jesus Christ that had the Lord of lords and King of kings for spiritual healing. Just as Naaman submitted to the Jordan River for physical healing (2 Kings 5:14), we must submit to water baptism for the remission of sins for spiritual healing by the blood of Christ (Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16, Matt. 26:28).

By looking to the God of heaven, the cross of Christ, searching the sword of the Spirit, we learn that God has given us conditions to be spiritually healed. We are to believe in God the Father and God the Son, Christ (John 3:16, 8:24, 5:24). We are to repent (Acts 17:30). We are to confess our faith in Jesus (Acts 8:37, Romans 10:9-10). We are to be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). We are to follow Jesus (John 10:27). We are to do the Father’s will (Matt. 7:21). We are to walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5:25).

Just like John’s baptism which came from heaven and not men (Matt. 21:25, Mark 11:30, Luke 20:4), all of those conditions of how to be saved and to continue in the faith that is listed above did not come from men, but heaven (Matt. 28:19, John 16:13, John 14:26, Rom. 1:16, 2 Cor. 4:7)

We are not saving ourselves by ourselves when we obey God’s divine authoritative commands. Everything which God has revealed to us through His word to be saved is grace. It’s dripping with grace and love. The Bible in the Old Testament and New Testament is full of commandments and conditional statements that God has freely given in order to receive what God freely gives. All of this is by God’s grace, as He has given instructions on how to receive what He freely gives.

Baptism into Christ for the remission of sins is NOT: a work of our own righteousness (Titus 3:5; cf: 2 Tim. 1:9), it’s not a work of the law (Gal. 2:16), it’s not a work of the flesh (Gal. 5:19).

Baptism into Christ for the remission of sins IS: the answer of a good conscience (1 Peter 3:21), an act of faith which puts us in Christ and His body/kingdom by obeying the Spirit’s message (Gal. 3:26-27; Jn. 3:5; 1 Cor. 12:13; 1 Peter 1:22-23), the working/operation OF God (Col. 2:12), it is where you are baptized into Christ and His death (Rom. 6:3ff), it is where the Spirit seals us in Christ (Eph. 1:13), where He (upon our obedience to the gospel of Christ) regenerates us to a pristine state as the blood of Christ takes away our sins and is where the Spirit renews us through His teachings, as we have allowed His word to renew our minds by obedience to His saving message instead of conforming to the world (Titus 3:5; cf. Rom. 12:2). It is also when you receive the Spirit’s promised gift through faith (Acts 2:38-39; Gal. 3:14).

Baptism is trusting in the work/working of God (Col. 2:11-12) that He has graciously given us, and we throw ourselves on Him for safety. The power is not in the water or in ourselves, but rather in the gospel of Christ and faith in the operation of God (Rom. 1:16a, Col. 2:12).

The gospel of Christ, as stated in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, is defined as Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. According to Paul, “But they have not all obeyed the gospel…” (Romans 10:16). Peter also makes obedience to the gospel crucial, For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? (1 Peter 4:17). According to Paul, in 2 Thessalonians 1:8, Jesus will come "In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ." Paul also states “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Rom. 1:16).

Paul states in Romans 6:3-4, “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we should walk in newness of life.”

It is here in these verses that we learn how to obey the gospel.

Peter’s gospel sermon on the day of Pentecost resulted in “about three thousand souls” to be obedient to the gospel (Acts 2:41).

“Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,” (Acts 2:38)

“And it shall come to pass that whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved,” Acts 2:21.

This same verse is quoted in Romans 10:13.

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. (Acts 22:16)

Calling on the name of the Lord in this setting cannot be referring to prayer, as one is calling on the name of the Lord by being baptized to have their sins washed away.

Although we are to obey, even when we try to obey we will never obey perfectly like Jesus did, and that is why even our obedience in of itself alone will not and cannot get us to heaven.

Grace has no stipulations concerning salvation. Not of yourselves is explained as not of works. What an individual contributes is neither grace nor not of yourself.

Grace is the reason we are capable of it
Then obedience is the result of "no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me".

So the power to live the godly life cannot be credited to us but to God, yes? If not for grace and the Holy Spirit at work in our life, obedience would be impossible, yes?

“It’s disturbing how obedience equals earning salvation to a lot of people, and even more disturbing how these same people usually believes if you have to obey or if it’s conditional then it’s not grace. “

yes the covenant Jesus made and the shed his blood to purchase all sinners gets ignored often for the sake of just saying “ we’re saved by grace through faith “ and so any condition even Jesus the Lord makes in the covenant he’s promising everlasting life to all who believe.

Like this

“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

but if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

instead of understanding how gracious that is compared to Moses law when it was “ if you sin you shall surely die” now it is based on mercy both to us from God in the start and from us towards others in his name and then ultimately back to us again at judgement.

“Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭15:1‬ ‭

Many sinners won’t do that they just say “im saved by grace “ it doesn’t have anything to do with herring and being taught by Jesus but in the epistles …..

if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; ( repent )

and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; ( believe the gospel )

and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

(now paul tells them how to put on the new man ….and not be like the rest of the gentiles who lived in lust and sin and lasciviousness )

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: neither give place to the devil.

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:21-32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

instead of reading sections of Paul’s letters what happens is this

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

and then they will explain all this information about what sealed means and how that means you are saved regardless of anything you do because of grace …….then they’ll say look see ?

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

everything paul was actually saying like that section talking about those who had heard the gospel and learned from Jesus and how they had learned to repent and let thier minds be changed and start living as new people in Gods Will and ways for us …..

grace gets defined by websters dictionary as “ unwarranted favor “ but it should be defined by the Bible and what it really does say about being saved of course it’s by grace Jesus came and died for our sins we could t be saved without it

bit then that doesn’t erase his words it makes them eternal applicable and true forever

Faith & Obedience are paralleled in the NC Writings. Obedience is at the core of many other important words and terms in the NC. It's refreshing to see some get this and be shedding some of the absurdities of the works salvation allegations.

“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

then some create a theory of what that verse means standing alone out of context and train of the chapters to structures and exhortation

Then obedience is the result of "no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me".

So the power to live the godly life cannot be credited to us but to God, yes? If not for grace and the Holy Spirit at work in our life, obedience would be impossible, yes?
“Then obedience is the result of "no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me".

What’s that actually mean though I know Paul said that of himself but what’s it mean to say that of yourself ?

“So the power to live the godly life cannot be credited to us but to God, yes? “

credit ? We wouldn’t even exist if not for God creating us of his own Will and for his own good purpose , credit always goes to God he’s the source of our life and existsnce and of course our redemption and salvation he’s the author. it’s why we thank him and praise him for all he’s done for us . I don’t think anyone’s talking about who gets credit and it’s not stealing Gods credit to say that we need to repent and obey God .

It is what he’s trying to accomplish to get a person to stop ignoring his word tbat is all around them thier chrirtian friend shares it or it’s on the dusty bibke they haven’t opened since granny bought it for them a few years ago . In the church on the corner , and these modern days ….in bibke discussion forums on line .

He’s never told man “ don’t think you need to do good and not evil or you’ll perish “ instead he’s always said the same thing and wants us to hear and believe it so we will act upon it in faith

hes saying if you do what’s right you’ll be acceptable , but if you don’t do what’s right sin is going to destroy you . Choose life and good . He said that to the first born man and he says it throughout the gospel and New Testament in ways like this

“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:16, 19‬ ‭

It’s not stealing credit from God , study and onoe learn and believe his word and act on it , it’s what he wants us to do , one of the results of obedience is constant prayer and praise to the lord that just comes flowing out of a grateful heart when we realize “ I can be free of that thing that’s been a bondage in my life for years in Christ , he really has t he power to set me free from sins dominion if I believe him

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32, 34, 36‬ ‭

your question of credit in my opinion goes to God and more specifically the name of Jesus who suffered and died for our sins and rose up again and gave those who hear and believe the gospel , his spirit because his spirit is in the gospel message when they hear and believe ….

“And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:42-44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When the gospel is being spoken and people are hearing it or reading and learning it Jesus spirit is in the message so if we believe he’s coming into our heart through the gospel

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭

aid we were to learn the gospel of Matthew mark Luke and John we would t have any question who the credit goes to brother . It’s a misperception that repenting and obeying God is something that steals glory from him . It’s what he’s calling us to do as humans

look who his doctrine reaches out to

“But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:30-32‬ ‭

If a person hears that call and responds it’s not taking Gods credit or glory from him , it’s honoring his Will. That he’s been calling for mankind to do forever since Eden

Gods Will will always be for man to think “ I need to do good and not evil or eventually I’ll perish “

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:12, 14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭13:3‬ ‭

We can’t think to believe what he said and respond somehow means we’re saving iurselves and get the credit we need to look at Jesus as the lord and he’s telling us the truth that he said will save us

Obeying is looking to HIM for salvation instead of looking to SELF. Obedience to God is throwing ourselves on God’s mercy and grace. God gets all the glory. All glory for salvation goes to God.

2:10). It’s simply desiring HIS will over your OWN.

He tasted death for every man. The immediate context clarifies who the every man are in Heb 2:9-10

But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

10 “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. The suffering here culminates into His death in Vs 9

He tasted death for everyone of the many sons, that is supported by the immediate context. 5
