Hey Everyone,

It's officially December and I have been eagerly awaiting a chance to try out this game!

For anyone who might not know, a White Elephant Gift Exchange is (according to Google) -- "A party game in which guests exchange wrapped gifts that are often impractical or amusing. The goal is to have fun, not acquire a valuable item. The game is also known as a Yankee Swap or Dirty Santa."

In the "Dirty Santa" version, guests can "steal" wrapped gifts from other players if the think it's something they'll like better -- even though they have no idea what it is since it's still wrapped. When I've played this game, the "gifts" are inexpensive, silly gag gifts given just for laughs, or unwanted things you have at home or received in other gift exchanges. It can also be very funny if, for example, a man winds up with the "gift" of a frilly, sparkly hair accessory (and it's especially funny if the man is bald!)

I have been trying for weeks to think of how to play this game in the form of an online threads (I've read about texting versions but it's all done in real-time with visuals, which we don't have here,) so let's give it a try and see how it goes! We might need to tweak a few things along the way, but that can be part of the fun!

Here are the "rules":

1. Read what "gift" has been left in the latest post.

2. If you'd like to pick up it, write, "I'm taking the (name the gift so we don't get confused,) then post a picture or tell us what "gift" you're leaving for the next person.

For example: "I'm taking the shiny hair bow, and leaving this fake mustache instead."

3. If you don't want the gift, write, "I'm passing on the shiny hair bow and leaving it there," so the next person knows it's still up for grabs.

If people keep passing, write, "I'm passing on the shiny hair bow, too," so that we know the last gift mentioned is still in play.)

4. For those who are truly "special", you can choose to briefly wear/use/enjoy the the gift for a minute, but then put it back down again for the next person to decided on.

For example: "I'm trying on that shiny hair bow, but I'm taking it out of my hair and leaving it for the next person -- even though it still has 3 of my hairs attached to it."

The next person can choose to pick up (maybe they'll say it's still perfectly fine, brush the hair off it, and use it themselves, then pass it on again,) or take the hair bow to keep and leave the next gift (describing what they're leaving in words, a picture, etc.), or not touch it all, saying that they are passing and leaving the hair bow as the next gift.

5. If the current gift doesn't seem appealing, a reader can go back and "steal" another gift from someone in a previous post. If this happens, the last gift mentioned is still in play.

For example: Let's say the fake mustache was the last gift mentioned but I have the hair bow and Lynx wants it instead. He can then say, "I'm stealing the hair bow from Seoulsearch and leaving the fake mustache instead."

I know it might get confusing but we won't know if we don't try, right? (And thanks to @Lynx for his ideas on how to work out this thread!)

So -- let's get this party started right!!!

The first gift I'm going to put on the table is:

1733156242941.jpeg

This lovely nose hair trimmer -- never used, I promise -- and the picture is for demonstration purposes only!

Ok, who's next? What will you decide to do with this gift? 1. Pick it up and keep it (while leaving another gift.) 2. Pass and let the next person decide. 3. Try it out -- and leave it as the gift for the next person.

And yes. Part of me wants to see who has the gall to use a nose hair trimmer and then leave it for someone else!!! (Especially on a Christian forum!!)

So... One again, we have this very useful nose hair trimmer up for grabs -- What will YOU choose to do?

All are welcome to play, but I thought this also might be nice for singles who often don't receive any gifts during the holidays -- and after this thread, they might not want to! :D

Lol!!!

I should have known it would be you, Sub!:geek::cool: Well, at least you've got the best-groomed nose in the thread... For now, at least.

So...

I will pick up the used nose hair trimmer -- with appropriate protective gear, including this handy-dandy hazmat suit:

1733162664756.jpeg

And a pair of extra-long tongs:

1733163071962.jpeg

After safely using the tongs to set aside the nose trimmers (for the burn pile!), I will then leave the (slightly used) extra-long tongs for the next person.

(The choices are: 1. pick up the tongs and leave another gift; 2. use the tongs (tell us what you use them for) and leave for the next person; 3. pass on the tongs and leave another gift; or, steal the used nose hair trimmer from me!) o_O

Considering the conversation still going on in that other thread, a little secondhand mucus seems to be the least of our worries as far as bodily substances.

*Lynx takes the grippers and leaves an empty toilet paper roll.

Wow.

I think the Forum Lynx has turned into the Forum Grinch!

I mean, you could have at least left a FULL toilet paper roll:

* Seoulsearch disappointedly takes the empty paper roll and leaves a Jar of Bacon Bits instead.* (inspired by my lunch)

This is awesome! Our first meaningful gift!

Now if it was me leaving a potted plant, it would look a bit like this:

1733173226726.png

BUT, since this is our own @daisyseesthesun who is leaving the plant, I'm sure it's much more like this:

1733173311361.jpeg

* Seoulsearch looks longingly at Daisy's beautiful potted plant, but reluctantly decides to leave it there for the next person.*

Why would I leave a full toilet paper roll at a white elephant Christmas gift exchange? Full toilet paper rolls were worth more than their weight in gold, not so very long ago. The whole point of this gift exchange is to leave something worthless.

Hmm.

Well...

It's nice to sneak in something useful or pretty once in a while... (I mean, we DID start off with a very practical nose trimmer, as @Subhumanoidal immediately demonstrated.)

What do you think of the potted plant that was last left?

Yay or nay?

* Seoulsearch can't resist any longer! She picks up the beautiful plant and carries it off into the sunset.*

Eyes shift from left to right, then the bacon bits are taken.

* Seoulsearch goes back and steals the Bacon Bits from @daisyseesthesun (after making sure Daisy gets a generous helping.)*

* Seoulsearch then sprinkles some of the Bacon Bits on her own salad, and leaves the partially-used jar as the next gift.*

I take the potted plant to add to my collection and leave, a slightly beat up stuffed hedgehog (it was the dog's favorite toy)

I'll also nab the toilet roll on my way out, those are great as hamster / gerbil toys

Yikes!!

I guess I didn't get to enjoy that plant for very long...

The steals are now in full play!!

Ok, it looks like we now have 2 gifts up for grabs:

1. The ever-popular Bacon Bits (albeit, slightly used):

2. And, one "slightly loved" stuffed hedgehog dog toy:

Which one would you choose? Or both? And what gift will you leave behind instead?

Used toothbrushes are useful for scrubbing crud off tools you just took out of the rust removal soup. I'll take that and leave three brand-new Hot Wheels cars, still mint condition in their packages.

Only one is a replica of a "real-world" car - a Nissan Skyline from the 70's in Japanese Police deco; the others are Mattel Creations. One resembles a doughnut drift car (with icing and sprinkles), and the other, a hot-rod toilet.

(Can't stray too far from the theme, y'know!)

WOW, talk about upping the ante!!!

New Rule -- You can go back and take whatever gift(s) you find interesting, just because we might have people grabbing things at the same time. :D We can just pretend there are enough to go around. :) Just be sure to tell us what you're leaving for the next person to decide on!

I know these probably aren't exactly what Dino has but I wanted to provide a few visuals.

Who's going to be the one to grab one, two, or all three of these beauties right up??!!

I'll grab the potty trainer for the Terminator-esqe cyborg I'm building. For him to potty train.

And I leave behind a broken cyborg eye.

I will see your broken cyborg eye, and raise you one PS2 mouse. Good luck finding a computer to use it on.

No, PS2 does not stand for PlayStation 2. PS2 mouse is the old kind with the green circular port.

I'm going to leave the PS2 mouse, and sneak back to this post:

3. A new contender -- A Nail Clipper!

Will you:

1. Pick up any or all of the gifts, leaving another one behind?

2. Leave all 3 gifts on the table?

3. Use one, or all of the gifts, then leave them there for the next person? (Don't even think about it, @Subhumanoidal!):cool::ROFL:
