There were tons of rules in my family growing up. Most revolved around no backtalk, finishing homework before TV, doing our chores, no cursing, being polite to elders and family friends, helping our parents without whining, not arguing with our siblings, practicing our musical instruments, keeping our rooms clean, going to bed when told, being home before curfew, taking care of our things, not messing up the house, etc. They weren't written down; we were just told. If we broke the rules, we usually were grounded (not allowed out except school and church for a period of time, depending on the severity of our 'crime') or had priveledges withheld such as no phone, no TV, no dessert, etc. Both parents enforced them.
