I know that there are more eschatological views than I can think of. Here are the ones that I can think of, and therefore I reject.

Amillennialism.
Postmillennialism.
Premillennialism. This includes Dispensationalism.

What can we learn from each other and the Bible, without letting our Theology get in the way?
Those are all the available models and you reject them cause you can think of em lol. That aint too smart.

Read Revelation chapters 19 to 21, they flow together beautifully, its called PREMILLENNIALISM because Christ returns BEFORE (pre) the millennium

Premillennialism, which is definitely what I believe in, is also called chiliasm.

chiliasm (n.)

"the doctrine of the millennium (suggested by Revelation xx), the theological opinion that Christ and the saints will reign visibly and corporeally on earth for 1,000 years before the final struggle between good and evil," c. 1600, from Latinized form of Greek khiliasmos, from khilias, from khilioi "a thousand, the number 1,000," which is probably from a PIE *gheslo-, source also of Sanskrit sahasra- "thousand" and perhaps also Latin mille, but the exact original sense of the root is unclear. Related: Chiliast; chiliastic.

As we just read, chiliasm is so named because the Greek word "khilioi" means "a thousand," and that is the word that we find translated into English as "a thousand" in verses of scripture such as these:

2Pe 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand G5507 years, and a thousand G5507 years as one day.

Rev 20:2
And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand G5507 years,

Rev 20:3
And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand G5507 years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Rev 20:4
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand G5507 years.

Rev 20:5
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand G5507 years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

Rev 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand G5507 years.

Rev 20:7
And when the thousand G5507 years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

Interesting post!

I was wondering... you post 2 Peter 3:8, which seems to show the 1000 years as metaphoric? But then post the only six verses in Revelation 20 and people see them as literal? That confuses me and hoping to understand why we should view the 1000 years in Rev. 20 as literal?

Hey, Ted.

I do not believe that what Peter said was intended to be metaphoric.

Here is what he said:

2 Peter 3:8

"But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. "

For starters, Peter was here alluding to what had previously been written in the book of Psalms.

Psalm 90:4

"For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night."

More importantly, he did so because if we are ignorant of this reality, then we are almost certain to come away with a faulty understanding of what the Bible prophesies in many different places in relation to the coming "day of the Lord." In other words, the events which will ultimately transpire during the coming "day of the Lord" will not transpire within the timeframe of a literal 24 hour day. Instead, they will transpire over the course of a 1000 year period of time. Some of the events will transpire at the beginning of the 1000 years, some will transpire during the 1000 years, and some will transpire at the end of the 1000 years.

I do not have the time to get into this further right now because I need to head to work shortly, but I would be willing to discuss this further with you when I have the time to do so.

millennialism (n.)

1906, "millenarianism, belief in the coming or presence of the (Christian) millennium," from millennial + -ism. Related: Millennialist.

millennial (adj.)

1660s, "pertaining to the millennium," from stem of millennium + -al (1). Meaning "pertaining to a period of 1,000 years" is from 1807. As a noun from 1896, originally "a thousandth anniversary." From 1991 as a generational name for those born in the mid-1980s and thus coming of age around the year 2000.

post-millennial (adj.)

also postmillennial, "relating to what may occur in the period following the millennium," 1831, from post- "after" + millennial; chiefly in reference to the Protestant doctrine that the second coming of Christ will occur after, not at, the Christian millennium. Related: Post-millennialism; post-millennialist.

millennium (n.)

1630s, "the 1,000-year period of Christ's anticipated rule on Earth" (Revelation xx.1-5); from Modern Latin millennium, from Latin mille "thousand" (see million) + annus "year" (see annual); formed on analogy of biennium, triennium, etc. For vowel change, see biennial. General (non-theological) sense of "an aggregate of 1,000 years, a period or interval of 1,000 years" is attested by 1711. Meaning "the year 2000 A.D." is attested by 1970.
[T]he men of the modern world—up to a generation ago anyway—saw 2000 as a millennial year in the light of science. Men were then to be freed of want, misery, and disease; reason and advanced technology would rule; all would finally be for the best in what would then be the undoubted best of all possible worlds. [Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, December 1962]
since you wanted to use scripture

can you show millennium in the scripture?

to understand the Bible correctly, we must free ourselves of what we think the Bible should say, what we want it to say, remove our needs, desires & interests & allow the Holy Spirit to teach us the Bible. John 16:13, John 14:26, 2nd Timothy 2:7, 15.
