He's not listening to the same singers I'm listening to.

Every genre and style will have puff pieces, songs and even entire albums that are generated just to make money. That's the kind of music he is talking about. It exists in everything from bluegrass banjo to death metal.

There is still good modern Christian music. In fact there's a lot of it. He's just not listening to the right singers.

I watched more of that video.

Okay, the person who made this video has a definite ax to grind. He has no interest in good modern Christian music. He just wants to complain about stuff, so he cherry picked the Christian puff pieces so he could have something to yell about.

plenty people have been talking about that for decades. there's a song out in recent years that sounds more sexual than Christian & other people said the same thing i said. musicians lay down a "marketable" groove that sells, call it Christian with Christian lyrics but they'e not fooling me.

I didn't have time to watch all of it, but I agree with the dude at the start. "Christian" music isn't necessarily for Christians. That people are making money (and not just an honest living, but megabucks) out of "Christian" music is a serious warning sign that such music probably isn't Christian ("you cannot serve both God and Mammon").

If people go into the so-called "Christian" music, lots of it is basically secular, and doesn't have any scriptural substance at all.

Lots more to be said, but the guy at the start is absolutely correct - in many churches, many of the songs sung are secular (or could be sung by the followers of any number of false gods), and the congregations don't even realise because they like how the music makes them feel.

Strictly "Christian" music is impoverished....it doesn't make the money, secular music does... but many groups start out by seeking fame in Christian circles (by bringing in better talent and more modern music) and then crossing over to secular music. (Which was their goal to begin with)

Not always. There are plenty of Christian artists singing the Word and God is blessing them as a ministry. IE Kieth and Krysten Getty are one couple walking faithfully in their gifting.

Very Celtic sounding! The title reminded me of this Hillsong song...

Oh, yeah... Hillsong!

Read the Psalms....

Then read the words to the popular music of the day.

"I" is the first word or in the first sentence of every modern song....everyone is singing about themselves instead of God.
Can't serve two masters....either God or yourself. Who is it gonna be? Christian music looks like secular music with an ego.

a look at the overall psalms shows David’s very intimate relationship with God and this before Jesus’ blood atonement for our sin . How much more of an intimate relationship we have available now that we are justified through Christs blood? The I and God words are actually quite Balanced in the psalms. David isn’t afraid to pour out his heart and be honest about his anguish, pain, anxieties, and joy before holy God and neither should we. Personally I don’t see it as selfishness in most modern songs using I . It is I believe hearts reflecting the hunger for personal intimate and relatable relationship with God. Our new hearts core desire is to want to know the Father and Son intimately . Something the psalms point out as a very real reality of David and God. We can know everything “about” God and still not know Him like David. What makes Holy God relatable to humanity today? Jesus Christ . We haven’t discipled our current generation of Christians well on how to know our God intimately better than was possible for David. God who desires intimacy with us. So “I”phrases and words in song become our way to press into relationship with Him making Him relatable and familiar to our hearts. These are just my thoughts on why
“I “seems so prevalent in modern worship.

The psalmists heart longing for an intimate encounter with Holy God

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar. Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Some “I” statements
“I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭9‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Contrasted with "I got a dent in my fender and holes in my jeans"

Ummm....
I'll take David over modern popular.

The focus is God in all the psalms...not so much self focus.

guess I’ve never heard that song before till now. So here’s what I think. I don’t think this song would be played in most Churches I know of nor the church I attend. I can read between her lyrics and find what she’s getting at but it’s a stretch. She’s really pushing the limit of In Christ there is freedom, that being free to be me thing could be that she’s saying we find our true identity in Christ. but where is the humility and surrender to obedience in Christ and why dosent she name the name? I understand your concern. The holes and dents thing is metaphor of our sinful fleshly failures and only on “Christs” shoulders are we ok. But again the lyrics fail to name the name Jesus and that is concerning. So far at least from what I hear on my Christian radio station this hasn’t aired yet so I’m thinking this might be exception rather than normal at the moment but you have a valid concern in this particular instance .

Maybe someone needs to listen to the TOP SONGS ON THE CONTEMPORARY CHART ONCE IN A WHILE.

I generally listen to what the Lord places in my path for music rather than searching for humanly popular “top songs” , I pay attention to the songs at church then usually I go and find those artists and dig into their music- which is where I picked up The Gettys and The Johnathan and Melissa Helsers music or my local Christian radio station with discernment to it all of course . Or when my morning devotionals feature a music artist I will look into their music. So far with exception to a song here or there I haven’t had an issue. I’m not going to go out of my way to find something to be critical about. If a song doesn't fit biblical principles meaning I can’t find agreement with the lyrics to scripture then I simply won’t listen. And I turn the dial to my preselected biblically sound music when that happens to save myself from becoming critical about it what the fallen world is doing.
