If you are speaking about Romans 12:3 where the phrase, “the measure of faith that God has assigned”, when I read that in context it is not speaking about "saving faith."
You had said THIS: "Actually nothing to boast about, the faith required is the same for each and every person."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your position is that God gives the faith to believe to all men. So that is what prompted my questions.
Are WE better?
Are WE more moral?
Are WE more intelligent?
Than those who were given the faith, yet rejected it?
If God gives us "saving faith" then we actually do have reason to boast, because not everyone is given this faith otherwise everyone would be saved.
I don't see how the exact opposite ISN'T true. If the faith doesn't come from God, or if everyone was given the same faith as those that acted upon the faith given by God, then you, by necessity, MUST boast that you are Better, more moral, and more intelligent than those that had the faith and rejected Him.
See where you and I differ perhaps, is that "saving faith" is not the gift, salvation is the gift by grace
Yes we do differ here. If we are not given saving faith, then how can it possibly be NOT boasting that you were better, more moral, and smarter than others that rejected Him!?
On top of that, the text TELLS us that we are given the faith, PRECISELY because we can't boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
New King James Version
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith,
AND THAT not of yourselves;
it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
The "that" there is absolutely referring to the faith. By very definition of the word it would be redundant to say that the "that" is referring to grace. Grace ALREADY means unmerited favor. Not to mention the "faith" is grammatically the closest word to the "that".
I am not saying you follow Calvinist doctrine,
Truthfully, I had no idea of who John Calvin was, or what his theology was until I came to this site a decade ago. I still don't like being labelled anything but a Christian.
but ultimately the Calvinist who believes they are regenerated first,
I've asked this question repeatedly over the years with no satisfactory answer. And remember, I'm not defending a position, I'm seeking the truth on this stuff.
How can a DEAD person, who IS SPIRITUALLY DEAD, choose to believe the Gospel, and accept Jesus, and become "born again" ? We're DEAD!
And I don't see how on one account, someone can say "world" means EVERYONE in the world, and yet here say, that "dead" really doesn't mean DEAD.
Ephesians 2:1
New King James Version
2 And you
He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
Made alive, or "quickened" in the KJV. I believe our faith given to us by God is ACTIVATED, or quickened when we hear the Gospel.
Matthew 8:22
New King James Version
22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
WHO is Jesus talking about here being dead, yet still able to bury dead people!?
But ultimately faith is not a work and that is why no one can boast, it is the opposite of work >>>>> it is receiving the gift of salvation.
Not sure why this is part of the conversation. I didn't say it was, nor do I believe it.
