1 John 2:19 says, "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us." According to this passage, people who profess to know Jesus but later deny Him were never truly saved. Many who point to this passage as proof that a Christian can lose salvation, doesn't understand what it is saying. What about Christians who continue to live in unrepented sin? What about the Christian who died because of the sin he was living? Do these people lose their salvation? The simple truth: When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, believing in who He is and what He done........THEY ARE SAVED. Romans 5:8, "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Hebrews 10:26-27 "For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgement and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries." When answering the question concerning losing one's salvation, we have to look at this passage carefully. We should take the overall context of the passage, along with the entire New Testament concerning salvation, and make interpretations that is consistent with ALL of God's Word. In other words: We never stop at just one passage of scripture when studying the Bible. First, read in the beginning of Hebrews Chapter 10. In verse 4 it is clear that Jews were attempting to go back to the Old Testament laws, sacrificing "bulls and goats" as a way to get forgiveness of sins. The author is saying in v. 26 "that we have received the knowledge of the truth", therefore there is no need for animal sacrifices. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. The perfect sacrifice.

Romans 5:1 "Justified by faith I have peace." There are too many Christians today that are missing out of a great joy because they allow tension and doubt to creep in over the fear of losing one's salvation.

A license to sin
Those who believe a "salvation lost" doctrine, make the claim that if you can't lose it, then that gives everyone a license to sin. A Christian's salvation is not based on the "good works" that we do or the goodness of our hearts. Remember Jesus said no one is good, but God. Throughout the Bible, there are warnings against living in sin. If a person is truly a believer in Christ, then they will have a new and deeper desire to please God. And when we do sin, we have a deeper conviction of wanting to stop and do better. We are not perfect. We are fallible human beings and we do fail to meet God's glorious standards. God in His Word makes a promise in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

John 10:27-29 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me..........they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my Father's hand." This should bring peace to everyone who comes to Jesus that nothing will take away our salvation.

Romans 8:33-39 "who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?.........who shall separate us from the love of Christ?" Nothing separates us from our Savior.

John 6:37 "all that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." Salvation is by grace and grace is favor, thus salvation is a gift.

The uncertainty of a Christian's salvation can lead to an unfulfilled life. A life filled with anxiety and sometimes depression that keeps them from serving our Lord to the best of their abilities. It is normal for a Christian to enter a period of time in their life where doubt creeps in. It normal for a Christian to let sin slip through leaving us to wonder if God has forgotten us. Its normal if a Christian sometimes feel like sin is overwhelming them, that they "back slide" in moments of time. Its normal for Christians in certain moments of time to feel like they are not growing spiritually. Our adversary wants us to feel this way and think that its not normal. Satan understands that when Christians doubt their salvation for too long or too often, it will dilute our effectiveness for serving our Heavenly Father.

Hebrews 6:4-6 "for it is impossible for those who were once enlightened and have tasted of the Heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." The author is speaking to the unsaved who have heard the truth, but is hesitant to embrace Jesus as Savior. These unbelievers were at the best possible point for repentance......full knowledge. To fall back at this point would be fatal.

Affirmations
1. We are not saved because we are good, nor are we lost because we are bad.
2. Jesus said if we believe in Him, we will NEVER perish.
3. God's Word says, "we all fall short," thus the reason for Jesus' death.
4. Jesus never said a true Chrisitan can lose salvation.
5. We are saved through "faith" and not by "good works", therefore the sins that Christians struggle with daily is irrelevant concerning salvation.
6. Ephesians 1:13 and Ephesians 4:30 These verses states that when we believe and accept the truth our salvation is "sealed".

If scripture taught salvation could be lost, wouldn't we see passages throughout the Bible showing us how to regain it back? God's Word does not speak of a Christian losing their salvation, but it does speak of bringing judgement to believers who have "fallen away" from obedience. They are stilled saved by the blood of Christ.

Who uses 1 John 2:19 to prove somebody can lose their salvation? Nobody. That doesn't even make sense.. That verse is often (wrongly) used to prove the opposite. you guys use this verse to say that there is no such thing as apostasy, and that anyone who seems apostate is really just false brethren. This verse is completely off topic.

Why were they going back to animal sacrifices in Heb10? Because they didn't want to suffer persecution because of the cross. Can you deny Jesus and put your faith in the animal sacrifices and still be saved?

"Fallen away from obedience" ?! Is that what the scriptures say? People will fall away from obedience?!?

1 John 1:8-10~ If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the Truth is not in us. If we confess our sins,

Can a Christian lose salvation?
Yes.

1 Cor. 15
1Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

Hebrews 3
12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.

Hebrews 6:4-6 "for it is impossible for those who were once enlightened and have tasted of the Heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." This Hebrews 6:4-6 interpretation pretty much embodies the general problem in most of these imo: it is invalid and ignores key scriptures; In this case "and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost". What does "saved" mean if the unsaved can partake in the Holy Spirit?

Anywhere in which Jesus is referring to this event:

John 5:28-29
Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear His voice and come out—those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

Should be read with the assumption of what was just made plain there. If His Sheep will receive eternal life, then it is because they will have (in bold)

Romans 2:7
To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.

Furthermore, who does Paul warn that they will not inherit the kingdom of God if they practice the sins in Galatians 5:19-21?

Galatians 5:21
and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Meaning certain Galatians. Did those same Galatians have faith in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit?

Galatians 3:3-5
Are you so foolish? After starting in the Spirit, are you now finishing in the flesh? Have you suffered so much for nothing, if it really was for nothing? Does God lavish His Spirit on you and work miracles among you because you practice the law, or because you hear and believe?

Galatians 3:26
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

In the parable of the lost sheep, followers of Christ are the sheep. It's possible for a follower of Christ to get lost, not be found, and perish.

Matthew 18 NKJV
10“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
11For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.
12“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying?
13And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

I'm on the fence about one way to lose your slavation and sure on one other.

First, I'm not sure if one gets truly saved and he continues to sin with no change in his life if he will go to Heaven. I do not like works based salvation and don't believe that one can ATTAIN salvation through works, but can some lose it if they never repented? Something to think about. If he lived exactly like he did before. Did such man repent? You can't go to Heaven without repenting.

Second way Im sure you can lose your "salvation" is if you apostate. Like Matt Dillahunty. He was a self professed born again Christian for 20 years then totally left the faith and became an atheist in college.
He did not remain in the faith. He lost it.

We earn nothing by our works, however we should avail ourselves to the One Who suffered and died for each of us to be his servant, even His slave. He does give us works to do. If we refuse, we are not truly in the faith for we have not gratitude for His all-giving sacrifice and suffering.

Waiting for Him is works.
Maintaining one's gift of faith, works.
Prayer, works.
Worship and praise, works.
Leading others to Him, works.
Teaching by the Holy Spirit, works.
Loving our fellow mankind,, friends and foes alike, works.
Then using any other gifts the Father has given, works. Prophecy, healing, teaching, tongues.......

Nott all of us are expected to be instruments of miracles, yet, all of us have experienced them, for they are everyday occurances once we believe and see. Being almost blind, I understand this kind of sight in new and bright light,. One need not be blind in order to understand this. God bless all and may all see with their hearts,.

Did you notice these people were partakers of the Holy Ghost? You don't partake of the Holy Ghost by knowing about the Gospel...

Did you notice that not having a sacrifice isn't a positive thing? But rather its a fearful looking for of JUDGMENT and fiery indignation, when you trample the son of God by sinning willfully....

Amen! 1 John 1:8 is in the 'present tense' yet there are those who still erroneously teach sinless perfection and continue to suffer from a terminal case of self righteousness. On the Christianity Board, there are a handful of members there who teach the sinless perfection heresy. Three of those members were previous members of Christian Chat who ended up getting banned. Go figure. ;)

A license to sin
Those who believe a "salvation lost" doctrine, make the claim that if you can't lose it, then that gives everyone a license to sin. A Christian's salvation is not based on the "good works" that we do or the goodness of our hearts. Remember Jesus said no one is good, but God.

Salvation is not probation.
Eternal life is not temporary life.
Jesus is the door. He is not a revolving door.

Psalm 37:28 - For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever,
But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.

There's plenty of hope, His name is the Lord Jesus. Remain in Him, steadfast in faith, and you'll have no worries. Reject Him and go your own way and all bets are off.
