Do you observe the Sabbath?

We worship him every day in the park. He is lord of everyday.

Just curious if anyone observes the Sabbath. It seems like some people do and some people don’t, citing a variety of reasons.

Are there any clear commands to observe a Sabbath rest on the seventh day of the week? Which verses? I ask because I see there are clear commands to observe some of the 10 commandments, but I can’t find anything about Jesus or one of the apostles commanding anyone to keep the Sabbath.

Personally I don’t observe Sabbath day of rest as of right now, but I’ve considered it and I’m not opposed to it.

Also, if you keep the Sabbath, what do you do and don’t do on your Sabbath day of rest?

He is the one who rested on the Sabbath day and commanded that you do the same. If you really understood the scriptures you would realize that He was the one who became known as Jesus who gave you the Ten Commandments. So not only did He command you to cease from your work on that day He also commanded you to. (Lev.23:3) “Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, an holy convocation;” He said on the Sabbath day that you should also have an holy convocation, which means holy gathering or simply put, go to church. Let’s take a look and see what Jesus did when he came in the flesh, And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. (Luke 4:14-16)

Jesus made it clear that the seventh day was made for mankind. (Mark 2:27-28) (v.27) And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Do we understand that, the Sabbath was made for us, not us for the Sabbath. (v.28) Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath. The Son of man (Jesus) is the Lord God of the seventh day Sabbath (Saturday). (Ex.31:16-17) (v.16) Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. (v.17) It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. You see that the Sabbath day is a sign between God and His people forever. Israel is His people then and whoever chooses to obey Him now are His people. God intended for the weekly Sabbath (this word means rest in Hebrew) to be a refreshing blessing for mankind. God knew that human beings would need periodic rest and change from work. But the purpose for keeping God's Sabbath goes far beyond simply resting on that day.

The Apostle Paul understood this he knew and kept Gods law including the seventh day sabbath. Now lets take a look at; (Acts 13:13-15, 42, 44) (v.13) Now when Paul and his company loosed from Pa’-phus, they came to Per’-ga in Pam-phyl’-I-a: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. (v.14) But when they departed from Per’-ga, they came to An’-ti-och in Pi-sid’-I-a, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. Paul went into the church (synagogue) on the sabbath day the seventh day not the first day (Sunday). (v.15) And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. (v.42) And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

The Gentiles didn’t asked Paul to come preach us something different next Sunday. They wanted Paul to preach to them the same thing that he taught the Jews, the next sabbath. Even the Gentiles knew that if they were going to serve the same God that Paul and the Jews (Israelites) served that they would have to serve him on the day that God had set up. (v.42) And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. Not the next Sunday but the next sabbath.

So you aren't going to get stoned to death for mowing your lawn at 7am on the sabbath.

That doesn't change the sabbath. It doesn't remove it or change its name or change God's mind about it. Jesus is Lord of the sabbath, not 'Lord of 7 normal work days with personal rest day'. But because of His grace you aren't saved by any effort. Being saved does not change the sabbath. Esteeming it or not doesn't either. As long as that's clear, it's OK. People are given various rewards based on how much effort they put in to serve and please God.

The kind of work Christians would do on a sabbath is good works, meaning that it isn’t different than any other day.

God probably didn’t literally stop everything He was doing on the 7th day or all or creation would have immediately ceased to exist.

Colossians 1:15-17 NASB
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation: 16for by Him allthings were created, both in the heavensand on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him
17He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

So day by day, hour by hour, second by second, because of Him all things are held together. That means God was using His power on the sabbath for good things.

The kind of work on the sabbath that is good is going to your 8 hour shift to earn money to get food and other essentials. The Bible says if a person won’t provide for their family then they’ve sinned. Working is a requirement.

1 Tim 5:8
8But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

The only thing I see that people shouldn’t do on a Sabbath is sin, but then again they shouldn’t sin any day.

I don’t think the sabbath is really relevant anymore or there would be commands to keep it in the New Testament. There are no commands to keep the sabbath because of the reasons I just gave you.

Yep, now Jesus Himself is our sabbath

Sabbath law is only shadow, the real sabbath had come, now doing sabbath is by asking Jesus come to our heart

No! The Sabbath to come is when Jesus will reign on this earth for thousand years. That thousand years will represent the seventh day Sabbath that you suppose to keep now, every week on the seventh day. Let's go into Revelation 20: 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,

Notice, Satan was in prison for a thousand years, imagine that peace.

It is clear to any honest person, that Paul is not under the law as a Christian.

The law of sabbath was given to the Jews, we were given the gospel of the grace of God, a new covenant annulling the old. The sabbath was given wholly for the benefit of the people, it's a blessing.

Provided that Jesus did work on the Sabbath, where do you draw the line for your Sabbath? It seems like Jesus said that doing good things on the Sabbath are acceptable according to Matthew 12. A good thing is working an 8 hour shift to earn money in order to provide food for your family, right?

So, effectively, Sabbath keeping is just about doing good things and not doing bad things? How is this different than any other day?

No of course not. We are set Free. Paul was explaining, in one fashion, that he was placing himself as a sheep in wolves clothing, one who fit into the group by the things judged irrationally as important. In this case, wearing his own old Skin as one who understands the codes supposed to honor God but unable to do so perfectly and so untrustworthy as Salvation, and still honors them to honor God. He hasn't deceived anyone, nor is he mistaking these deeds as a Salvation source. The teaching of Jesus as Messiah was his honoring of God, these acts simply proved that he understood the complexities of their faith with the Hebrews he was speaking.
Was he required? No. Would he be judged by God if he didn't? No, Freedom doesn't say this, unless he was otherwise ordered by God. Would he be judged by God under the law for doing them? Only if he placed them as his salvation. He wasn't seeking his salvation, he was avoiding obvious offense and gaining confidence in ability and soundness of mind, as they were adjudged by the culture where he was.
That may not always be available when you witness, but it's not a terrible thing to avoid offense, prove you're competent, and make your listeners comfortable that they are not immediately under invasion.

So a man cannot be saved if he cannot read the book of Leviticus? Or if he has never heard the Ten Commandments? God may use the law to help guide, but God's salvation is far bigger than just for those who know the law.
