Jesus Christ (John 1:1-3, 10-14) 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
He is the one who rested on the Sabbath day and commanded that you do the same. If you really understood the scriptures you would realize that He was the one who became known as Jesus who gave you the Ten Commandments. So not only did He command you to cease from your work on that day He also commanded you to. (Lev.23:3) “Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, an holy convocation;” He said on the Sabbath day that you should also have an holy convocation, which means holy gathering or simply put, go to church. Let’s take a look and see what Jesus did when he came in the flesh, And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. (Luke 4:14-16)
Jesus made it clear that the seventh day was made for mankind. (Mark 2:27-28) (v.27) And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Do we understand that, the Sabbath was made for us, not us for the Sabbath. (v.28) Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath. The Son of man (Jesus) is the Lord God of the seventh day Sabbath (Saturday). (Ex.31:16-17) (v.16) Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. (v.17) It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. You see that the Sabbath day is a sign between God and His people forever. Israel is His people then and whoever chooses to obey Him now are His people. God intended for the weekly Sabbath (this word means rest in Hebrew) to be a refreshing blessing for mankind. God knew that human beings would need periodic rest and change from work. But the purpose for keeping God's Sabbath goes far beyond simply resting on that day.
The Apostle Paul understood this he knew and kept Gods law including the seventh day sabbath. Now lets take a look at; (Acts 13:13-15, 42, 44) (v.13) Now when Paul and his company loosed from Pa’-phus, they came to Per’-ga in Pam-phyl’-I-a: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. (v.14) But when they departed from Per’-ga, they came to An’-ti-och in Pi-sid’-I-a, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. Paul went into the church (synagogue) on the sabbath day the seventh day not the first day (Sunday). (v.15) And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. (v.42) And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
The Gentiles didn’t asked Paul to come preach us something different next Sunday. They wanted Paul to preach to them the same thing that he taught the Jews, the next sabbath. Even the Gentiles knew that if they were going to serve the same God that Paul and the Jews (Israelites) served that they would have to serve him on the day that God had set up. (v.42) And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. Not the next Sunday but the next sabbath.

Christ is confronted over His disciples harvesting a little grain on sabbath, a small thing but yet a perceived violation.
His reply is two examples of the law being broken, yet the lawbreaker being righteous:
David & his men eating shewbread, which is absolutely contrary to the law
the priests working every sabbath, which Christ presents as categorically contradictory to the sabbath commandment - calling it "profaning"!
it is in this context that He says He is Lord of the sabbath:
not with the implication that everyone must obey it because He is Lord of it,
but with the implication that it belongs to Him, and He, He alone, is able to judge, to grant leniency and to overlook sin

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the sabbath. And His disciples were hungry, and began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath!”
But He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the showbread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? Yet I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple. Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath?” — that they might accuse Him.
Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the sabbath.” Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.

The kind of work Christians would do on a sabbath is good works, meaning that it isn’t different than any other day.
God probably didn’t literally stop everything He was doing on the 7th day or all or creation would have immediately ceased to exist.
Colossians 1:15-17 NASB
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation: 16for by Him allthings were created, both in the heavensand on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him
17He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
So day by day, hour by hour, second by second, because of Him all things are held together. That means God was using His power on the sabbath for good things.
The kind of work on the sabbath that is good is going to your 8 hour shift to earn money to get food and other essentials. The Bible says if a person won’t provide for their family then they’ve sinned. Working is a requirement.
1 Tim 5:8
8But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
The only thing I see that people shouldn’t do on a Sabbath is sin, but then again they shouldn’t sin any day.
I don’t think the sabbath is really relevant anymore or there would be commands to keep it in the New Testament. There are no commands to keep the sabbath because of the reasons I just gave you.

No! The Sabbath to come is when Jesus will reign on this earth for thousand years. That thousand years will represent the seventh day Sabbath that you suppose to keep now, every week on the seventh day. Let's go into Revelation 20: 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. 7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
Notice, Satan was in prison for a thousand years, imagine that peace.

The Talmudists had hundreds of codes they had "refined" from the 10 Commandments and Law of Moses. They were judging based not on the Spirit, which David said they should come and taste of. They were judging on their fleshly attempts to match God.
I have to agree that it may have been work, since God seems to have created the Universe with Word, and it was, mostly, Word that Jesus used to heal. Six days God Created, and the seventh he Rested. If the opposite of Rest is Work...
In that particular passage, his Word with the Faith of the cripple seem to have combined in some way. But as Jesus is quoted elsewhere, is it lawful to save an animal or person who would die if you did no work at all? How many days was Jesus going to be around, in the flesh, for Israel to get Salvation? There were going to be plenty of Years where Jesus would, it appears to me, be resting in Heaven. And even the law of Moses has a covering code for those who must violate a Sabbath, or at least a High Holy Day.

No of course not. We are set Free. Paul was explaining, in one fashion, that he was placing himself as a sheep in wolves clothing, one who fit into the group by the things judged irrationally as important. In this case, wearing his own old Skin as one who understands the codes supposed to honor God but unable to do so perfectly and so untrustworthy as Salvation, and still honors them to honor God. He hasn't deceived anyone, nor is he mistaking these deeds as a Salvation source. The teaching of Jesus as Messiah was his honoring of God, these acts simply proved that he understood the complexities of their faith with the Hebrews he was speaking.
Was he required? No. Would he be judged by God if he didn't? No, Freedom doesn't say this, unless he was otherwise ordered by God. Would he be judged by God under the law for doing them? Only if he placed them as his salvation. He wasn't seeking his salvation, he was avoiding obvious offense and gaining confidence in ability and soundness of mind, as they were adjudged by the culture where he was.
That may not always be available when you witness, but it's not a terrible thing to avoid offense, prove you're competent, and make your listeners comfortable that they are not immediately under invasion.

All the commandments can be summarized easily as: first Love God with all your mind, heart, and soul and second love everyone else as you love yourself. This love is can only be acquired as a divine gift when we receive the Father's Holy Spirit and when our actions and thoughts are motivated by love, we are obeying the Spirit of the Law as well as the letter of the Law.
Romans 9: 31-32 But Israel, who followed after the Law of Righteousness, hath not attained to the Law of Righteousness. Why? Because they sought it not by faith but, as it were, by the works of the Law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.
Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Talking about Israel in Rom 10: 3-4 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.
Matt 22: 36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the Law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt lovr the Lord, thy God, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and prophets.
