New wine is grape juice that is beginning to ferment and creates a small amount of alcohol that's why it's called new. The fermentation process causes expansion which is why you can't use a stretched out old wine skin for new wine.

I'm not a drinking man anymore but if I was, I would grab a gin & tonic over crushed ice with a twist of lime.

Do you have evidence that the "wine" at the wedding was alcoholic, rather than the "wine" of non alcoholic grape juice?

It seems you might have assumption based upon the word "wine". Have you studied this word in scripture and in the context the wedding? I am only asking.

Alcohol is allowed in the Bible but a lot of people should stay away from it due to its effects on mood. Alcohol has different effects on different people. Some people get more "happy", others easily depressed and others get mean/nasty and pick fights. For some reason it seems people are inclined one way or another with alcohol, you can almost expect it each time. People who get depressed or mean after drinking alcohol, and people who get easily addicted, should stay away from alcohol. Alcohol should be limited to people who can "eat, drink, and be merry".

Does the context of Deuteronomy 14:26 say that the "strong drink", or if alcoholic "wine", was to be drunk, or does the context say it was to be poured out?

"and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God"

Eat here can also means to consume so one can "eat" liquids. It was to be consumed not poured out.

What about this "new wine" -

Isa 65:8: "Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all."

This "new wine" is "in the cluster".

I think you may have an incorrect assumption in your present definition.

While I agree that "new wine" can later gas off, it does not do so immediately, and does not do so readily when in preservation, which the people of God had.

Are you sure? I think there are some other texts you need to consider in this context. How about it, do you want to look at some of those?

new wine doesnt have alcohol...its pretty much grape juice and anyone can drink it.

alcohol is fermented sugars...basically its turned rotten. It can be grapes,(wine) potoates, (vodka) wheat and grains (whiskey) juniper, (gin) apples (cider) Rice (sake) hops(beer)

They, en masse, have not done a careful and prayerful study of every use from Genesis to Revelation.
