I’ve been wanting to start working again since my kids are older but due to circumstances I thought I may try to do it from home. Any suggestions or advice?

I started a remote bookkeeping business from home in 2020
I love it.
I would reccomend looking on YouTube. There are a ton of broadcasters that have videos and ideas to do to work from home. Just type in some ideas and get your leads.

Also depending on your skill set....
There are lots of administrative type jobs for the research community and for universities...
A lot of these jobs aren't difficult but they are tedious and involve lots of reading and writing.
But they are a fairly good consistent paycheck...just saying.

You need your own computer, and desk and preferably a room of your own that is separate as your 'office'. Depends what you want to do, join a company that lets your work from home or become self employed.

If you are self employed it might be harder because you have to set it all up yourself, pay all taxes, and work all hours to break even. But the upside is you call all the shots, make all the decisions etc. However getting word of mouth put to clients will be on you as nobody else will know what you do unless you tell them. so it will be a lot of online hustling. You might need a separate phone line and bank accounts etc.

if you dont want to do computer work you can...do catering, using your kitchen, do sewing (if you have a machine) hairdressing (you can set up a home salon) grow plants (need your own shed) or create art (need your own studio) teach ( set up your own homeschool or day care)
you can use your garage as a workshop. But depends on how big your garage is. You might actually want to park your car in there!
Or if you have spare bedrooms operate a B&B esp if its in a good location, and host students and guests.

I think the downside to working from home is you might then never go out and see people lol.

For someone who works from home, she sure is good at applying makeup.

If she did it just for those videos, I wonder how she stays in practice. If she keeps in practice by using it all the time, I wonder how she keeps her motivation to use it all the time.

Thanks Lanolin. I’m hoping to go through a company. I’ve been looking and no luck yet but not giving up.

I don’t mind if I get to see people or not honestly lol I’ve gotten used to that after being a homemaker for 11 almost 12 years.

Thanks JohnDB. I do have a office assistant certification but that’s not much to lean on.

For research hospitals and universities it's plenty more than enough...

At this point so many of them are so low on available staff that there's practically no one left to actually hire the needed staff...

Just apply and see what happens.

There are more online jobs now than before. Try sites like indeed, ziprecruiter, linkedin, etc. You can also contact a temp agency or another job agency and a recruiter can find a job for you. Do practice interviews through zoom, skype, in the meantime.

how is the job hunt going

I think you'll always find work to do at home! Whether you get paid for it is another matter.

I’ve put in several applications and no luck yet. I’ve just been out of the workforce too long. I will probably have to take some online courses or just go back to school 🤦🏻‍♀️
Lol yeah, I always have plenty to do here at home.
