sound like a rebuke to me... not. LOL
Stripped out of the chapter, it sounds like nothing. It in itself is not a rebuke, but in the context of the chapter Paul is either gently rebuking the Corinthians, or at least correcting something they are doing wrong with respect to spiritual gifts.

How many Christian's actually go by the guidelines in how tongues and prophecy actually should be practiced?

If the sign gifts are for now.. they would be operating in decency and order.

I went to a charismatic church here to the youth service.. and the entire congregation started trying to speak in tongues (in this case it was gibberish)

That is blatantly ignoring the guidelines set by God thru Pauls writing to the church at Corinth.

I haven't seen a charismatic or Pentecostal church stick to the order and decency set in practicing the gifts.

lol - keep reading Brother - God has given to those who He loves Gifts -
and one of them is a Special Love Language which is between Christ and His Bride.

For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God.
Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries in the Spirit.
Brother tree kicking some booty in here.

You said: "If the sign gifts are for now.. they would be operating in decency and order."

Well then according to this logic, no one should believe in Christ because, clearly, many Christians are 'out of order and sorts'.

The Holy Spirit has not stopped from pouring out those Precious Gifts - and HE does not need anyone's approval either.

This is why we have the Word of God - to know the Truth via the Spirit of Truth and Gifts of the Spirit.

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the [e]edifying of the body of Christ, 13till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

You gave the narrative - other Members and myself gave the Scripture(s)
C'mon... Acts is a narrative scripture (it tells the story of what happened). The scripture is the narrative I am talking about.
What you are attempting to do is argue with Scripture and with the Saints who hold to the word of God.
No. We might be misunderstanding each other though.
Nobody on this thread said that "it has to happen a certain way"
If that's the case we don't have a disagreement.
If you do not want to believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as our Lord made clear in Scripture - that is your choice
So, when I was talking about churches with the "initial evidence" doctrine- I'm talking about people saying it's the initial evidence for everyone who gets the Holy Ghost. Not the initial evidence in church history.

You folks can never be pleased. Paul says if you all speak in tongues [as you describe these youngsters doing] and an unbeliever walks in will he not say you are mad?

So what they were doing although wrong does correspond to the bible.

Again Paul says if each of you prophesy and an unbeliever walks in he is convicted of everything and will fall on his face and say surely God is with you.

But you don't like that either do you?

agree - but i would say this - God was specific in how HE poured out the baptism in the Holy Spirit and HE specifically
gave the Gift of Tongues on the day of Pentecost.

Please read Acts again for the Narrative of the Holy Spirit was the Gift of Tongues and GOD signed off on it.

AGAIN: i am not saying it must always occur this way - i AGREE with you on that

Let's allow the Scripture to Narrate to us HIS STORY - Amen[/QUOTE]

God's idea of decency and order may not be the same as your idea of decency and order, I don't think you would have enjoyed many of Jesu's meetings.

My favorite Brother Nehemiah6 - Hello Dear Brother

On the contrary - this CHALLENGE can absolutely be PROVEN one way or the other by Scripture alone and in the mouth of Two or Three Witnesses from Scripture.

So, i embrace your love and reply to this thread and hope you will participate, if you feel lead of course - PEACE
Well, not all scripture is given for all time. This theme you will often on CC.
The most of those who believe and expierenced the gift of speaking in tongues does it in combination with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And this teaching came up on the beginning of the last century in the USA.
This I cant find taught to any Christian in the NT. But this I would expect, because for some it seems to be the most important
Issue for an believer. I know that is often used Acts 2, 8, 10 and 19, but these mentioned Events can also to be seen as a witness for the jews, that the gospel is for all mankind and not alone for them.

Well you are not an Apostle to correct Scripture which i often find in those who reject Scripture.

The Truth Challenge is to Prove - either YES or NO - by Scripture ITSELF

So please search the Scriptures, like the Bereans, and bring forth from Scripture what you find.

Please help yourself and review the evidence from Scripture that some Members here have provided as well.

Do you love the Promise of the Father which we have heard from His Son? or have they ceased???
1 Corinthians 3:22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;
