you may have noticed once or twice that the word for live in english spells Evil backwards but did you know that in the hebrew the word for life also expresses dualism? for example the biblical matriarch Eve is named for life
Genesis 3:
20And Adam named his wife Eve, because she would be the mother of all the living.
Eve's name means life and you may have noticed that Eve's name is palindromic meaning the word is the same forwards and backwards. this is not just true in english either in Hebrew Eve's name is Havvah which is also a palindrome.
the tree of knowledge of good and evil expresses knowledge of dualism much like the experience of life itself. life isnt just good or evil but encompasses both good and evil. and what happens when one lives? they die by default! so life is paradoxical or good and evil. life is the tree of knowledge in itself. if you live eventually you will die. this is what God means when he says if you eat of that tree you will surely die because if you live you die!
did you notice they changed when they ate the forbidden fruit ?
They were made like this
“So
God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
Genesis 1:27 KJV
“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying,
Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of
the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
Genesis 2:16-17 KJV
“And
they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”
Genesis 2:25
everything is well man is in Gods presence in Eden and there is no fear or shame only blessing and companionship , dominion and grace. But then a massive change by mans action
“And
the serpent said unto the woman,
Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and
ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
And when the woman
saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and
they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
And
they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.”
Genesis 3:4-8
all Of the sudden they are afraid and ashamed and hide from Gods presence.
“And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said,
I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”
Genesis 3:9-10 KJV
why is he afraid and ashamed now and wasn’t before ? What’s changed from this
“And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and
there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food;
the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”
Genesis 2:8-9
to this
“And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
Genesis 3:22-24 KJV
there’s a monumental shift from creations design to mans consequence of breaking the first commandment. From this moment forward man becomes terrified when God speaks and man perceives certain death when he comes near it lasts through the law
“And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and
when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”
Exodus 20:18-19
man is convinced that Gods word means death to the hearers , but the gospel has come bearing truth to change that lie
“For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:
…
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
John 5:22, 24
quite the opposite understanding from this
“Now therefore
why should we die? for this great fire will consume us:
if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any more, then we shall die.”
Deuteronomy 5:25 KJV
What changed for mankind ? Why did they see the Creator who only blessed them and gave them the earth as hearing his word meant certain death ?
And why are they still Convinced of this even when Moses came ? So afraid to hear what God says ?
when they transgressed Gods word became “ Thou shalt surely die “
and why would believing this change anything ?
“Verily, verily, I say unto you,
If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.”
John 8:51 KJV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16 KJV
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life:
he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And
whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
John 11:25-26 KJV
we can see how transgressing the commandment brought death and a blinded view a deception in our minds believing Gods word is meant to put us to death.
But it seems harder for people to hear what Jesus is saying about hearing and believing his words and the gift of eternal life
“I am the door:
by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and
they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
I and my Father are one.”
John 10:9-11, 14, 16, 27-30 KJV
Transgression came by man and sin and death became part of mankind but Christ has come to save us from condemnation of the old man and old knowledge of good and evil by teaching man to believe the truth about God so we understand he’s not coming to drive us away but he came to call
Us near to him and live
