I'm sorry but Matthew Seven is the end of what is known as the sermon on the Mount. which starts in Mtthew chapter five and through six to the end of Seven.

The very last verses of the context all Jesus said in all three chapters is

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Why are you sorry that the many Jews who listened to the sermon the mount, the ones I explained, were astonished at his doctrine? Nothing to be sorry about.

there were multitudes of people and that was a great number. How many listen to the message of Christ? Multitudes.

So we are in agreement.

We are told in 1 John how to recognize being saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit.

1 John 4: 7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
does this love express itself in practical ways? how did Jesus manifest His love? do you want to be like Jesus ... or your favourite preacher?

If you read it carefully it says.. Then I will say to them..... I never knew you (plural). The you refers to the them and the many and the 'you workers' not worker.

Just a thought that might help clarify.
So they were workers of iniquity and not as they said casting out devils and doing many works in Jesu's name ... there is another saying of Jesus where people will say to Him "did you not preach in our town?2 they are the same people.

It is said that America is a christian nation ... will that save any American?

All Europe and America ... or do you really believe America is [or ever was] a christian nation? I don't believe Britain ever was.
The earliest colonists -- both the Pilgrims and the Puritans -- were very definitely Christians so the foundation of America was Christian. Later, when America was established as a nation, the Founding Fathers designed the Constitution on Christians principles of liberty and justice for all. While many of them were Deists and Freemasons, others were definitely committed Christians.

George Washington was clearly a Christian: "Throughout his time as a leader, in the army and civilian government, Washington encouraged the declaration of days of prayer and fasting as a means of seeking divine assistance in perilous situations and also supported the proclamation of days of Thanksgiving to praise God for his help."

You got that right they were deists and freemasons. The constitution [I believe] excludes religion altogether

This is what I am saying, the founding of America along certain christian precepts does not make it christian. I thank God for the church in America. But to come to the Lord on that day and say "am I not American? did not we have churches in every town and city?" won't help anybody.
