After seeking the Lord and looking in the Word of God I had asked some question about Acts chapter 2 and what Jesus said in

Mark 16:14-20 and Matthew 28:16-20

many Pentecostals have got it wrong in context to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. This is evident because Jesus says in:
Mathews 7:20-23

20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

those who practiced lawlessness, and used the gifts of the Holy Spirit to enrich themselves were no different than Simon the sorcerer.

The only reason why God allowed the body of Christ for the gifts of the Holy Spirit is seen in these scriptures

Mark 16:20

And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

This was again seen in Acts 4:33 where the miracles were done to testify Jesus rose again. To be a witness.

How is then that those who did such things could be told by Jesus I never knew you?

it is simple. I will tell you later Lord willing :)

Does this include all these thieves who take the sermons and the songs
and the wisdom and the revelations of the Holy Ghost to which was given to them to give freely to the church.
But some how ended up in books, cruise tours, trips to Israel, cd's, copyrighted and sold
and made merchandise there of.......The Holiness of God.

What is the first thing that comes to my mind
when I get a copyright notice from a Christian who stole it from God
and does not want me to have it unless I pay them for it?

Seems to me in that Matthew passage the operative phrase is ‘I never knew you;. Because they weren't born again (I never knew you), they were workers of iniquity.

The Corinthians were highly gifted, and were into lots of mischief, but Paul still addressed them as saints. in 1Cor 1:2 and 1Cor 1:30.

To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:
(1Co 1:2)

And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
(1Co 1:30)

interesting huh?

But notice the responses to the Lord, " ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ ".

What was a miss that they did what were works Jesus did, in fact, say they would do yet did not know these people who did them?

Jesus said He did not know them yet they cried Lord we did do works in your name. How can an unsaved person do works in the name of Jesus? The seven sons of sceva came to the demon-possessed man and said we you adjur in the name of Jesus whom Paul serves.

the demon said Jesus we know and Paul we know But who are you?

it seems to me there are many people today in ministry who have a form of godliness but deny the power or the person who gives it.

When the decisples came back after Jesus sent them out they were excited that demons were subject to the name of Jesus.

Jesus said Luke 10:20

Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”

That your name is written. You are known by me and I know you are more important than the truth of devils subject to you.

This is the number one issue today, I believe. People are not known by God nor do they know God or in a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. People are chasing experiences instead of drawing close to the Lord in these evil times.

Then there is the issue of these people in judgment were relying on their own works ('did we not cast out etc.)? Their hope was in their works, not that of Jesus, even though ‘done in His name’.
Matthew 7:22 ESV
[22] On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?'

Jesus had just spent an hour teaching them how IMPOSSIBLE it is for an evil tree to bear good fruit, how IMPOSSIBLE it is that Satan could cast out Satan.

That crowd came and said to Him " Lord did we not .... " Jesus might easily have said "no you did not" if they had done those things He could only have commended them for that is what He said for us to do.

Who are these crowd?

They are people who attach themselves to denominations and churches but are never saved. " did not we Catholics, we Baptists, we Pentecostals?"

You have to look at the "many" shall come which is plural and the "you" in I never knew you which is singular

If you read it carefully it says.. Then I will say to them..... I never knew you (plural). The you refers to the them and the many and the 'you workers' not worker.

Just a thought that might help clarify.

I agree with the main thrust of your statement that is ''those who practiced lawlessness, and used the gifts of the Holy Spirit to enrich themselves were no different than Simon the sorcerer. "

You just need to to turn on ''christian'' TV to see the circus in motion. It's sad really but the scriptures warn us well.

It is interesting that these are non believers (Matt 7), so although they look like they are bearing good fruit, it is in fact for their own praise and glory therefore its bad fruit, the enemy uses it to deceive. They are bad tree's bearing bad fruit (vanity, pride and greed). Wolves in sheep clothing masquerading as light.

Crossnote brings up an interesting point about legalism. They certainly seem to be very boastful in their works. Which is another bad sign of the condition of their hearts. Legalism is deadly. Jesus tells us they weren't one of his sheep.

This is the number one issue today, I believe. People are not known by God nor do they know God or in a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. People are chasing experiences instead of drawing close to the Lord in these evil times.

I think this would be a good starting place.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.

8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing (1 Timothy 2:1-8).

I agree. they have a form of godliness, they are able to fit in , say the right things yet they have denied Jesus to be Lord of their life, but took what was in his hand. just like the five thousand he fed, they received the meal but left when he offered eternal life.

I don't watch tv types I stopped that in the '80s. And the tv doesn't represent the local church really at all. Yet there are those in the local church who do this too. Amen the time is NOW for true worshipers to rise up and cry out to the living God and preach the Gospel of the Lord. People are on their way to Hell and do not know the Lord.

Matthew 7 is before the cross and not to the body of Christ. There are no Christians in the Audience in Matthew 7 . Acts 2 ,3 ,4,5,6,7 are still to the Jews. With signs accompanying the Jews to reach Jews. Jews require a sign .

the writing of Matthew was by those who were saved and regenerated. That too must be taken into account.

Moreover, Mark 16 14-20 and Matthew 28:16-20 were said BY the resurrected Lord. Your point is not well-founded. The regeneration of them (the disciples) is shown in John chapter 20:21-22 and in the confession that is recorded.

21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As jthe Father has sent me, keven so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.”

Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”
27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”

28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

The very last two verse states this truth:

30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;

31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
many other Gospels Jesus gave commandment to the body of Christ that was said after the resurrection and the saving of disciples.

Paul said Jesus spent 40 days with them ( the disciples) after He rose from the dead and was seen by 500 eyewitnesses those 500 they were not saved? Paul said many who are with us today.

As in Paul:

Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith (Gal 3:11)".

For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith. (Romans 1:17)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8)

You do know that Paul lifted this teaching straight out of the OT?

Paul said Jesus spent 40 days with them ( the disciples) after He rose from the dead and was seen by 500 eyewitnesses those 500 they were not saved? Paul said many who are with us today.
1cor chapter 15.
Do you have anything explicitly said?

the writing of Matthew was by those who were saved and regenerated.

30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;

No one is regenerated until the giving of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 . Its the whole point of Acts 2 . Jesus keeps explaining what should come when the Holy Spirit is given . Its a major transition . Its a major event . Jesus has to depart in order for this to happen . Its a monumental occurrence. Its how We are also put into the body of Christ and christ becomes in us .. its a massive event ..Its the whole point of Jesus sending the comforter.
John 7
37¶In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
