Linguistically, – Ab carries the meaning of “possessor, “founder,” or “source.” For example, 2 Sam. 23:31 speaks of Abialbon– “father (or possessor) of strength,” strong one. In Exodus 6:24, “Abiasaph”–father [possessor] of gathering,”

As with Malachi 2:10, – corresponding with that meaning, the term “father” carries the idea of “possessor,” “founder,” “source”- as with His role as Creator (cf. Duet. 32:6; Isa. 64:8; Mal. 2:10). So, the Messiah “possesses,” that is, the source of eternity—He is the Creator of all things .

Father of Eternity is the basic reading in Hebrew.,

Polycarp (70-155/160). Bishop of Smyrna. Disciple of John the Apostle.

“O Lord God almighty . . . I bless you and glorify you through the eternal and heavenly high priest Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, through whom be glory to you, with Him and the Holy Spirit, both now and forever” (n. 14, ed. Funk; PG 5.1040).

Justin Martyr (100?-165?). He was a Christian apologist and martyr.

“For, in the name of God, the Father and Lord of the universe, and of our Savior Jesus Christ, and of the Holy Spirit, they then receive the washing with water” (First Apol., LXI).

Ignatius of Antioch (died 98/117). Bishop of Antioch. He wrote much in defense of Christianity.

“In Christ Jesus our Lord, by whom and with whom be glory and power to the Father with the Holy Spirit for ever” (n. 7; PG 5.988).
“We have also as a Physician the Lord our God Jesus the Christ the only-begotten Son and Word, before time began, but who afterwards became also man, of Mary the virgin. Irenaeus (115-190). As a boy he listened to Polycarp, the disciple of John. He became Bishop of Lyons.

Tertullian (160-215). African apologist and theologian. He wrote much in defense of Christianity.

“We define that there are two, the Father and the Son, and three with the Holy Spirit, and this number is made by the pattern of salvation . . . [which] brings about unity in trinity, interrelating the three, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are three, not in dignity, but in degree, not in substance but in form, not in power but in kind. They are of one substance and power, because there is one God from whom these degrees, forms and kinds devolve in the name of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” (Adv. Prax. 23; PL 2.156-7).

Origen (185-254). Alexandrian theologian. Defended Christianity and wrote much about Christianity.

“If anyone would say that the Word of God or the Wisdom of God had a beginning, let him beware lest he direct his impiety rather against the unbegotten Father, since he denies that he was always Father, and that he has always begotten the Word, and that he always had wisdom in all previous times or ages or whatever can be imagined in priority . . . There can be no more ancient title of almighty God than that of Father, and it is through the Son that he is Father” (De Princ. 1.2.; PG 11.132).

“For if [the Holy Spirit were not eternally as He is, and had received knowledge at some time and then became the Holy Spirit] this were the case, the Holy Spirit would never be reckoned in the unity of the Trinity, i.e., along with the unchangeable Father and His Son, unless He had always been the Holy Spirit.” (Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson, eds., The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1975 rpt., Vol. 4, p. 253, de Principiis, 1.111.4)

In the course of time, then, the Father forsooth was born, and the Father suffered, God Himself, the Lord Almighty, whom in their preaching they declare to be Jesus Christ. We, however, as we indeed always have done (and more especially since we have been better instructed by the Paraclete, who leads men indeed into all truth), believe that there is one only God, but under the following dispensation, or οἰκονομία , as it is called, that this one only God has also a Son, His Word, who proceeded from Himself, by whom all things were made, and without whom nothing was made. Him we believe to have been sent by the Father into the Virgin, and to have been born of her—being both Man and God, the Son of Man and the Son of God, and to have been called by the name of Jesus Christ; we believe Him to have suffered, died, and been buried, according to the Scriptures, and, after He had been raised again by the Father and taken back to heaven, to be sitting at the right hand of the Father, and that He will come to judge the quick and the dead; who sent also from heaven from the Father, according to His own promise, the Holy Ghost, the Paraclete, the sanctifier of the faith of those who believe in the Father, and in the Son, and in the Holy Ghost.
But keeping this prescriptive rule inviolate, still some opportunity must be given for reviewing (the statements of heretics), with a view to the instruction and protection of divers persons; were it only that it may not seem that each perversion of the truth is condemned without examination, and simply prejudged; especially in the case of this heresy, which supposes itself to possess the pure truth, in thinking that one cannot believe in One Only God in any other way than by saying that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are the very selfsame Person. As if in this way also one were not All, in that All are of One, by unity (that is) of substance; while the mystery of the dispensation is still guarded, which distributes the Unity into a Trinity, placing in their order the three Persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost: three, however, not in condition, but in degree; not in substance, but in form; not in power, but in aspect; yet of one substance, and of one condition, and of one power, inasmuch as He is one God, from whom these degrees and forms and aspects are reckoned, under the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. How they are susceptible of number without division, will be shown as our treatise proceeds.
Against Praxeas Chapter II​
The simple, indeed, (I will not call them unwise and unlearned,) who always constitute the majority of believers, are startled at the dispensation (of the Three in One), on the ground that their very rule of faith withdraws them from the world’s plurality of gods to the one only true God; not understanding that, although He is the one only God, He must yet be believed in with His own οἰκονομία . The numerical order and distribution of the Trinity they assume to be a division of the Unity; whereas the Unity which derives the Trinity out of its own self is so far from being destroyed, that it is actually supported by it. They are constantly throwing out against us that we are preachers of two gods and three gods, while they take to themselves pre-eminently the credit of being worshippers of the One God; just as if the Unity itself with irrational deductions did not produce heresy, and the Trinity rationally considered constitute the truth.
Against Praxeas Chapter III​
But as for me, who derive the Son from no other source but from the substance of the Father, and (represent Him) as doing nothing without the Father’s will, and as having received all power from the Father, how can I be possibly destroying the Monarchy from the faith, when I preserve it in the Son just as it was committed to Him by the Father? The same remark (I wish also to be formally) made by me with respect to the third degree in the Godhead, because I believe the Spirit to proceed from no other source than from the Father through the Son.
Against Praxeas Chapter IV​
Bear always in mind that this is the rule of faith which I profess; by it I testify that the Father, and the Son, and the Spirit are inseparable from each other, and so will you know in what sense this is said. Now, observe, my assertion is that the Father is one, and the Son one, and the Spirit one, and that They are distinct from Each Other. This statement is taken in a wrong sense by every uneducated as well as every perversely disposed person, as if it predicated a diversity, in such a sense as to imply a separation among the Father, and the Son, and the Spirit.
I am, moreover, obliged to say this, when (extolling the Monarchy at the expense of the Economy) they contend for the identity of the Father and Son and Spirit, that it is not by way of diversity that the Son differs from the Father, but by distribution: it is not by division that He is different, but by distinction; because the Father is not the same as the Son, since they differ one from the other in the mode of their being. For the Father is the entire substance, but the Son is a derivation and portion of the whole, as He Himself acknowledges: “My Father is greater than I.” In the Psalm His inferiority is described as being “a little lower than the angels.” Thus the Father is distinct from the Son, being greater than the Son, inasmuch as He who begets is one, and He who is begotten is another; He, too, who sends is one, and He who is sent is another; and He, again, who makes is one, and He through whom the thing is made is another.
Happily the Lord Himself employs this expression of the person of the Paraclete (Holy Spirit), so as to signify not a division or severance, but a disposition (of mutual relations in the Godhead); for He says, “I will pray the Father, and He shall send you another Comforter…even the Spirit of truth,” thus making the Paraclete distinct from Himself, even as we say that the Son is also distinct from the Father; so that He showed a third degree in the Paraclete, as we believe the second degree is in the Son, by reason of the order observed in the Economy. Besides, does not the very fact that they have the distinct names of Father and Son amount to a declaration that they are distinct in personality? For, of course, all things will be what their names represent them to be; and what they are and ever will be, that will they be called; and the distinction indicated by the names does not at all admit of any confusion, because there is none in the things which they designate. “Yes is yes, and no is no; for what is more than these, cometh of evil.”

For in the Trinity alone, which is the author of all things, does goodness exist in virtue of essential being; while others possess it as an accidental and perishable quality, and only then enjoy blessedness, when they participate in holiness and wisdom, and in divinity itself.

The individual names uttered by me can neither be separated from one another, nor parted. I spoke of the Father, and before I made mention of the Son I already signified Him in the Father. I added the Holy Spirit; but, at the same time, I conveyed under the name whence and by whom He proceeded. But they are ignorant that neither the Father, in that He is Father, can be separated from the Son, for that name is the evident ground of coherence and conjunction; nor can the Son be separated from the Father, for this word Father indicates association between them. How, then, should I who use such names think that these are absolutely divided and separated the one from the other?

Martin Luther was a great example of someone that held the primary authority on scripture (Prima Scriptura, though he called it Sola Scriptura as a misnomer) but also gave status and authority to catholic doctrine (Nicene Creed, Apostle's Creed, etc.).

It's fine to do but there is no reason to give authority to "history and church fathers" which have without doubt been subject to politics and human fallibility. Even if we look beyond Sola Scriptura, the question comes back to "whose version of history?" and "which church?"

Is scripture read from the heart ever in a vacuum?
History is read in Historical Context and there was only one Church back then. Some will call it Catholic. Others will call it just the Universal Church that later became or developed into the Western, Eastern Churches. If one reads the history of the Councils Constantine had did not speak in a theological manor at Nicene. He wanted the Church to define what they believed to be a glue for the Roman Empire.
In his speech, he simply greeted the Christians that came and excused himself from the proceedings. He had no influence of any kind in the Theological sense. If you wish, I can post the Edicts related to Religion back then.

If LDS teaches that Jesus is a creation and that Satan is a creation, in a fashion I suppose they would share the category of being brothers. Not sure. I'm not an expert in LDS. The point was more about highlighting an example form of Christianity that was non-Trinitarian.

My point was that even if someone had an incorrect conceptualization of the nature and essence of Christ, that they could still be in Christ by faith. Perfect understanding isn't necessary for salvation.

Because all these are human emotions which the evil one manipulates through his demons. What is positive about having doubt where you are supposed to believe in God by having faith in Him? In this case, it is negative to have doubt instead of trust. You cannot trust and doubt at the same time. You can either trust God or doubt Him. You cannot do both.

If we're saved by the grace of God, we are saved because we believe in God. That's the key reason for God to recognise us as righteous before His eyes.

Abram believed in God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. And God makes a new covenant with Abram and calls him Abraham. A new person in God's eyes. Abraham didn't doubt.

Time and time again the Bible shows us in both the Old and New Testament that many of God's children doubted Him and His promises. And the Bible also tells us what happened to those people. Right from the Israelites whom God rescued from the hands of Pharoah to the Pharisees and Saducees and people of Jesus' time. Not everybody believed Jesus when He came to them. Not everyone accepted Him. But we as believers in Christ accept Jesus for who He is and who He reveals Himself to us as. "The Son of God". For God to work in your life, it is essential that you believe in Him without doubting Him.

Thomas, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus doubted Him. And Jesus showed Him proof and He says,"You believe because you see. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." So, God wants us to believe in Him without doubting Him so that we have no blockage in receiving His blessings as His children. And Thomas says," Lord, I believe, help my unbelief." And Thomas says that to counter the doubt which he previously had.

Doubting about God's word is the same for a believer and God in his or her relationship with the Creator as a husband doubting his wife or a wife doubting her husband in a marital relationship. Okay if there is some doubt for sometime. We're all human beings. But doubt should not last a lifetime. There should not be doubts often. It must be resolved. There has to be an end to doubt somewhere and as a believer you have to believe and live a life of faith. Be wary of the spirit of unbelief. Be wary of the spirit of doubt. Rebuke them in the name of Jesus and by His precious blood so that all may be well in your life of faith and your relationship with God.

No, I disagree. If there is a spirit of jealousy, a spirit of confusion, a spirit of frustration, a spirit of anger, a lying spirit, spirit of fear, spirit of unbelief, then there is surely a spirit of doubt. Because all these are human emotions which the evil one manipulates through his demons. What is positive about having doubt where you are supposed to believe in God by having faith in Him? In this case, it is negative to have doubt instead of trust. You cannot trust and doubt at the same time. You can either trust God or doubt Him. You cannot do both.

If we're saved by the grace of God, we are saved because we believe in God. That's the key reason for God to recognise us as righteous before His eyes.

Abram believed in God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. And God makes a new covenant with Abram and calls him Abraham. A new person in God's eyes. Abraham didn't doubt.

Time and time again the Bible shows us in both the Old and New Testament that many of God's children doubted Him and His promises. And the Bible also tells us what happened to those people. Right from the Israelites whom God rescued from the hands of Pharoah to the Pharisees and Saducees and people of Jesus' time. Not everybody believed Jesus when He came to them. Not everyone accepted Him. But we as believers in Christ accept Jesus for who He is and who He reveals Himself to us as. "The Son of God". For God to work in your life, it is essential that you believe in Him without doubting Him.

Thomas, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus doubted Him. And Jesus showed Him proof and He says,"You believe because you see. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." So, God wants us to believe in Him without doubting Him so that we have no blockage in receiving His blessings as His children. And Thomas says," Lord, I believe, help my unbelief." And Thomas says that to counter the doubt which he previously had.

Doubting about God's word is the same for a believer and God in his or her relationship with the Creator as a husband doubting his wife or a wife doubting her husband in a marital relationship. Okay if there is some doubt for sometime. We're all human beings. But doubt should not last a lifetime. There should not be doubts often. It must be resolved. There has to be an end to doubt somewhere and as a believer you have to believe and live a life of faith. Be wary of the spirit of unbelief. Be wary of the spirit of doubt. Rebuke them in the name of Jesus and by His precious blood so that all may be well in your life of faith and your relationship with God.

If I sound a little extreme or if you feel I'm trying to prove something, I'm not. It is my understanding of God's word and what has been revealed to us through the Bible. It is my belief that I share with you. God bless you.
