I've heard this question many times.
What does it mean?
How do I know who I am in Christ?
Do yo lniw who you are in Christ?
How do you know?

I'm thinking it may be that you know what God wants you personally yo do?

Hello and welcome to CC, Shandy! :)

The context in which I have come across this question is addressing identity (self worth), not role. In other words, "in Christ", I am forgiven, redeemed, set free from my sins, preserved, seated in heaven, hopeful, and many other things, and, undergirding it all, a child of God. These are all stated in Scripture. All are positive, and all counter what I am told by the world, my own physical/emotional self (the "flesh"), or the enemy.

If the things which identify you can be taken away from you, they aren't your identity and your sense of worth should not be tied to them. Who we are in Christ is unchangeable and "untakeable". :)

Thank you so much Dino246. That takes a lot of worry from me.

When you BELIEVE in JESUS, And come to JESUS ASKING HIM to FORGIVE YOU FOR YOUR SINS, AND Repent JESUS CLEANES you from your PAST sins, that is what it takes to start your new life in JESUS, Till you Chose to SIN AGAIN,
And if you sin again, you will need to GO back to JESUS, and repent , and let HIM clean you Again,
1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
HEBREWS 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
If this does happen to US we haft to GO back to JESUS, AND repent And let HIM clean us AGAIN.
We are to FIGHT TO OVERCOME OUR SINS, MAY GOD bless and GUIDE you IN THE RIGHT PATH, And I believe that as LONG AS WE are fighting A GOOD FIGHT, and overcoming our SINS, we are SAVED, BUT if we sin willfully we are choosing to be lost. letting sin between us and GOD.

Agreed, apart from wilful sin. I find this confusing.
One verse tells us we are lost if we sin wilfully, because there is no further sacrifice.
Another tells us if we repent of wilful sin and carry on fighting sin we are forgiven.

That is because the blood covered your sins, then you sin again, What is showing Again ???
Now I ask you would the sin be covered after I sin again, No I haft to GO back AND get that SIN covered also.
This is not good for us to sin again, But it has happen to me, and most other Christian's, to I'm sure, even sounds like Paul had this problem ALSO, don't know for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did,
This is where the fight comes in, If we get knocked down, we haft to get up and get the blood to cover that sin to, and keep GOING, JESUS SAYS,
Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
1 COR 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
GOD bless as GOD sees good for you, And take the WORD for what it say, By studying all the SCRIPTURES on the same subject, the BIBLE HAFT to agree in ALL SCRIPTURES, with what we believe, if it don't we are looking at it WRONG, and have the wrong doctrines, of what it saying, You got to let the BIBLE explain it's self, by studying all the scriptures on the same thing, if we try to figure it out in our own mind, we have missed up. GOD has got to explain HIS SELF in HIS WORD WHAT HE MEANS

Scripture is speaking of someone who retains their will to sin. Hebrews 10:26 tell us "someone who makes a practice of sinning" and 1 John 3:4-10 speaks of "everyone who practices sinning" there is no further sacrifice.

If they turn away from their practicing sin and ask forgiveness, they have been assured they will be forgiven.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

It means nothing. It's religious jargon that means nothing at all. It's like, "let go and let God", "blessed to be a blessing", and other churchanese idioms. Hollow empty meaningless, vapid nothingness.

You miss no opportunity to spew your nonsense. Even if you have to shoe horn it in to almost but not quite the subject matter at hand.

That verse is aimed at hebrews during the tribulation.

All sin is NOT willful, THERE IS ignorant Sins that GOD doesn't hold against us till we learn the truth.
Or gives us LIGHT And shows us that it is SIN, Willfully SINNING is when YOU KNOW that it is SIN ,AND
you GO AHEAD and do IT, knowing that it is SIN,
LEV 4:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD [concerning things] which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them: This Shows US THAT there is ignorance Sinning
LEV 4:22 When a ruler hath sinned, and done [somewhat] through ignorance [against] any of the commandments of the LORD his God [concerning things] which should not be done, and is guilty;
4:23 Or if his sin, wherein he hath sinned, come to his knowledge; he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a male without blemish:
EX 21:14 But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
EX 17:12 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.
17:13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more
17:12 And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.
17:13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.
.
This shows US that there are willfully, which is sin that we know is sin, presumptuously sinning
Then there is in ignorance Doing something that we do not know is sin, ignorant Sin,
God bless as GOD ses GOOD for YOU

These are people that think they are saved, But kept walking on GOD'S laws, ye that work iniquity. means LAWLESSNESS'
people that don't want to go by GOD'S laws, but clamming to be SAVED, But JESUS is telling them they ARE LOST!!!

MATTHEW 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
MATTHEW 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
MATTHEW 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
MATTHEW 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
MATTHEW 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

Romans 8:1 - Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

1 Corinthians 15:22 - For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. :)

Matthew 7:21 - Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. *John 6:40 - For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

These many people (unbelievers) in Matthew 7:22 had the wrong foundation. They were trusting in their works to save them and NOT IN CHRIST ALONE. Jesus NEVER knew them which means they were NEVER saved. Their hearts were not right with God, so their "attempted external obedience" (apart from the righteousness of God which is by faith and the blood of Christ) was stained with sin. *Seeking salvation by works/law keeping is not the will of the Father.

John 17:3 - And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. The term "know" implies intimate, experiential knowledge, through a relationship with Him, not merely theoretical knowledge.

These many people were not true converts. *Without faith it's impossible to please God no matter how many alleged wonderful works that these many people set out to conjure up through the flesh in a vain effort to obtain salvation based on works. This is why Jesus referred to these many people as "workers of iniquity." God does not see the righteousness of God through faith in Christ (Romans 4:5-6; Philippians 3:9) in unbelievers and all unbelievers apart from the righteousness of God are seen in the eyes of God as workers of iniquity because all of their sins remain and have not been washed away by the blood of Christ.

Philippians 3:9 - and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith.

As we read on in Matthew 7:24-27, we find two different foundations with two different results, and not salvation by works/law keeping, as some would suppose. Each house has a different material upon which its foundation is laid, and each house has a different final outcome. One house is built by a wise man upon a rock and it stands. The other is built by a foolish man upon the sand and it collapses.

Those deceived by their own self-righteousness in Matthew 7:22-23 were "outwardly" doing all the things that the righteous would do yet they did not truly know Christ (had no personal relationship with Christ) which stemmed from not truly believing in Him. The rock the wise man builds upon is true righteousness found in Jesus Christ alone. The sand the foolish man builds upon is self-righteousness.

*Only those who truly believe in Him are wise and hear the words of Jesus and properly act on them. *The foolish man twists the words of Jesus and acts on their own self-righteous works system and calls that acting on the words of Jesus.
