I have thought about this, and it's kind of interesting that many evangelicals will ask each other this but they give no answers. In the Lutheran tradition we actually give people the answer without ever asking this question, we call it vocatio, or vocation, and it really does give us the answer to who we are in Christ in a sense. So we look at we look at what we are, I'll use myself as an example, I am a son or my father and mother, I am a father to my son's and daughter, I am a husband to my wife, I am also a son of God, and a man of my church, and community. Each of these things are described and explained in the bible what it means to be all these roles. This defines your earthly role as a Christian.

I think the question is a little more interesting than this when you get to the root of the matter. This isn't as much a question of who you are in Christ alone, it's a question of who am I and what is the purpose and meaning behind my existence. It's actually a plea for justification; on a visceral level. Outside of Christ it's a grim prospect because as Ecclesiastes very clearly states it's all vanity or in other words it means nothing and there is no justification.
