I agree but it doesn't help when people continually shove it down your throat that you are most definitely wrong about your interpretation or understanding because it doesn't line up with this or that commentary and then want to argue about it for the next few years. It switches from "I think that interpretation is wrong because of......" to a blood bath. The motive changes. I don't know if it has always been like this on here or if it has just worsened this year.
Yes I would agree with this. Truth is something that sets you free as it touches your heart but trying to hammer it dogmatically causes people to resist. Waste of time.
Hey, so I was looking up Bible teachers. Would anyone here recommend a Bible teacher, preferably that have teachings online and also preferably have "through the Bible" studies?
I wouldn't mind, old, long-gone, Bible teachers, who have great commentaries too.
So far, I like and would recommend:
Les Feldick
Chuck Smith
J. Vernon McGee
Dr. David Jeremiah
I haven't read all their works, but so far they seem great, recommend me Bible teachers?
Pick out the signal from the noise . For example you could actually start believing false systematic theology simple from a book recomendation. I believe that most who are attached to a particular ' ism ' ( no names mentioned ) have done so through outside sources before they read and understood the bible . I speak from experience when I say this.

This is why the life of the teacher is so important. If they are purely academic with no power of the Holy Spirit then what good has all their learning accomplished in their lives. I think I would rather emulate a prophet than a scholar but that's just me.

The bench mark for me is quickly recognising there theology starting points and influences . Unless we ourselves arrive at conclusions then we are simply giving over our sense making to others . Theirvcharacter and conduct could sway us either way also .

I get it. You don't put God in a box. I try not to do this too and you are open to what he says to you. That in my opinion is the only way to go. I think people are so afraid of "what not to do" that we miss out on what God is saying. That is why the church is so weak.
the expression 'don't put God in a box', is not an excuse for 'anything goes' and while I am not saying you believe anything goes, far too many people do and that is a problem all of us should be concerned with
people have a very good reason to be concerned over 'what not to do' as you put it, when you examine such churches that teach outside of scripture, state that new revelations go beyond scripture and actually practice occultic things
what I find particularly disingenuous is the fact she continues to claim false conclusions by ignoring what some of us post and she did this in the other thread as well
but as far as black and white error goes, take for example her claims about demons (which came up in the other thread). she states they are all knowing about the future and that is an example of supposed knowledge she has received which is not in scripture

It is very rare -- in fact non-existent -- for anyone to frankly and honestly admit that they have made an egregious blunder, and it's time to shape up (or ship out). I guess this goes all the way back to Adam and Eve blaming everyone but themselves for their own disobedience. But Christians should know better.

look at Paul. when Christ met him on the road to Damascus, he had to do a complete 180. while our life changing moments as Christians may not be that dramatic, God will show us our errors. there was one thing in particular some years back I had been taught and I kept thinking 'how is that right? all the evidence seems to point to a different conclusion:
well, finally God put me in touch with an excellent Bible teacher, Derek Prince actually, who illustrated from scripture that the conclusions of so many were very wrong. it was a turning point in my life and very helpful
also, it does help to humble yourself when many keep telling you that you are wrong and show you from scripture that what you say is not biblical. I don't think anybody gets a kick out of showing someone they are wrong. it is concerning when error is heaped upon error and people act out of that error
so we have error of omission and the error of adding to the Bible
