PS, surely you understand that God didn't command certain nations to be wiped-out on a 'whim'? -
they were destroyed on the same principle as Sodom and Gomorrah -
they were 'wicked' beyond redemption, it was the same thing with the Canaanites and other nations,
they were performing child-sacrifices and other atrocities that were an abomination to God...

it's getting ready to come-down-again, harder, see the Book of Revelation...

yes this is true, its coming again in book of revelation. and also God said to abraham its gonna be many generations before your people can inherit the land when their measure of sin is full. so God was merciful.

many from these west countries are just so weak mentally. they never seen war so they dont understand reality anymore. they live in some idealistic bubble world. just a minute ago war was regular and common place, its only after world wars that people really started living in peace more and now its more civil wars everywhere, thats in style now.

God is not running a democracy get that to your heads, if we lived under kings we would understand better. God can give life and take life as He wants. dont like it too bad. God is God you are not.

its because God commanded it and canaanites were idolaters israelites worshiped Jehovah God

do you think other countries in this world were started with men standing around in circle holding hands? just very unrealistic. almost all countries start with war or get independence with it.

welcome to real world. God will torment all His enemis forever in the lake of fire and you are worried about some canaanites? who cares. they got off easy, now they have it tough in hellfire. so some wars in this world is nothing compared to what God will do to His enemies.
The Israilites were terrible idolaters.

That was your god, the god of one wicked nation.

at some times they were yes the bible says they went after ba'al etc. but they werent idolaters when bible says they worshiped YHWH. come on. unless you think bible is wrong in what it records.

i like it how you skip over the wickedness of canaanites and these pagans and focus on israelites. you are defending israel's enemies who were way worse than israelites. that tells me something

Um... you do realize that "neighbour" is included in "others"?
Of course.

The same conflict per Calibob's theology exists. (His Post) It seems to me that some people have an issue with humbling themselves or accepting that God's in charge and not us. Our purpose in lif is to love God more than everything else put together. And love other as much as ourselves. Sure there were errors in translations caused by obsolete languages and lack of punctuation. God was never a pacifist he's the supreme commander of all and everything. Whether we like it or not. Following other desires more than loving him is idolatry which is adultery against God. A loving parent occasionally needs to chastise their beloved children. Sometimes occasionally, sometimes often. Depending upon how rebellious they are. Get over it.

My prior observation: If we love God more than everything else put together first, and then we're to love others as much as that self that loves God more than everything else including ourselves....What's there for the neighbor?

Actually the Canaanites were your ancestors. Joseph went to Egypt and his descendants came back 400 years later and killed everyone.

As I already noted that the Israelites engaged in idolatry, it seems like an odd point to prove.
It seems like an odd point to interject into the discussion here while denying the Jews history is one of Polytheism.
Or do you think idol worship is exempt from Polytheism?

Look up the Hebrew for thou shall not kill it's a unjustified execution. There are plenty of exceptions, self defense, War and punishment. It was eye for an eye mentality.
Actually the original text of the 6th commandment read as, thou shalt not murder.
Murder is the unjustified taking of a life.

The argument therefore would arrive as, God was justified in taking the lives of those described as such in His word.

They are allowed only to keep the virgins......I wonder why??
That was my first thought but the counter is they were unsullied by sexual immorality and therefore were guiltless in the whole debacle and they were to be slaves. You also have to factor in the depravity of man. This was common everywhere else also, with much more brutality and excess.

Many things happen during war time. That's not an excuse, it just bears consideration in any passing judgement/consternation when we haven't ever been there.

This may not factor in but I would look into the laws regarding joining the assembly for those of foreign birth.

I'm sure there is probably someone who was in Vietnam here but things have happened in our lifetime.

Don't you all think it is about time we all got on in unity through Jesus Christ the ONE God, who came to His own.

So that made it right to infect the healthy girls.

The Israilites married into other nations and got infected. Moses married a Kennite woman. Mind you he told the Israilites not to do it, but that did not stop him.

When God created all people, which one's are "his own"?
Christians believe the answer is, anyone who comes to repentance in Jesus Christ.
Others are led to believe only certain one's Jesus intended to repent.

What do you mean infect?

I didn't say they were taken as sex slaves. I do not know.

Sometimes we jump to conclusions that because something potentially could have occurred then it must have. (btw I feel like there should be a comma in there somewhere, off topic but it's irritating).

My mind is currently focusing on the tribute/tithe of people to the Lord. What do you think he did with them? Probably slaves to the tabernacle, to aid Aaron or the levites in some fashion. That clearly had no sexual context.

So I don't see why it could not also be applied generally. Were there probably exceptions? Yes.

Do people receive the wages for unrighteousness privately without being "found out" by men? Yes.

I do think what cuts someone off from the assembly should be considered in some measure when gauging.

As well as the fact that we are forbidden sexual immorality in scripture...Does that stop everyone? No. Do people experience consequences? You see what I'm attempting to paint here a bit?
