Unless you are trying to analyze the way your subconscious mind processes information from day to day, what would be the point?
Are you in phycological counseling?
(There nothing wrong with it, maybe we all could use some help understanding how we process our experiences).

Or are you tring and find some secret message from God that needs decoded so you can know his plan?
I am seeing a counselor mainly for trouble with anxiety. I have seen patterns of feeling anxious in some of my dreams. Certain dreams I have had are encouraging. One was about heaven and I like that one a lot. Another one was different and kinda funny but I could also see symbolism to it about facing your fears, how one may blow up their fears to be bigger than they are.. etc.

Anxiety and fear...
I'm an obsessive person myself and can cause myself stress over my obsessiveness. So this is what I do.
If you are riding a bicycle and you focus on an obstacle you will hit the obstacle.
What does the Bible say, take every thought captive.
So I call those thoughts what they are and focus on what is as Paul wrote, good, and lovely, and of good report. I redirect my mind and it takes practice.
Never lean into those emotions they will drag you down. Stand up shake it off and move on. You can do it. Get plenty of exercise, nutrition, and sleep, and have some good company to fellowship with. What I say is "get out of your head."
We have to realize that the vast majority of our nagging fears, and anxieties are our own imagination. Once we can grab hold of that we can get on with life.
No matter what take a deep breath be honest about it, and move on with life.
Don't focus on it.

Ive never analysed a dream Ive had. But I am interested in this subject. The more we understand ourselves the more we understand the mystery of God. ( in my opinion of course)
Freud and especially Jung contributed a lot to the field of psychoanalysis. And lets not forget that Jung was very interested in Religion, especially Christianity.

I don't write dreams down that feel like temptations or lies. I'm not going to get into what those dreams are but I feel like if they are of the Lord, I will remember them regardless.
Agree totally! I had one so powerful, I believe I will remember it till I leave this Earth.

I believe, that writing down every single dream can only lead to more confusion......It is kind of like me having a journal of my dating life, in the attempt to figure women out (He He, not possible).....When someone meaningful comes into view, all the rest lose all relevancy.

You mean in the OT. And I already addressed that.
No Joseph a descendant of David who took Mary and the child to Egypt per instructions in his dream

And clearly in the last days these things will increase, prophesy, visions and dreams.

Acts 2
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Is it advisable to write down your dreams in a journal? I heard people suggest writing dreams once you wake up in order to remember them better. Are there instances where it is not a good idea to write dreams down?
It's typically good to write your dreams down. I can think of a few examples you may not want to... But that's only bc other people might find your journal and they're in it! Lol You can write both the good and bad if you want. If it's something you'd rather forget then don't. It's the same idea as a diary and it belongs only to you.

Both your good and bad dreams actually do give insight typically. Of course there are the occasional off the wall ones.

Your bad dreams can actually teach you something if you're willing to learn it. What is the fear? What is the anger? What is the incorrect thought? Your thoughts manifest as characters in your dream. Where they come from I don't know nor does it matter. You agreed with an incorrect thought... And so you gave them control in your dream.

Both good and bad dreams can tell the future as well. I know people don't really want to talk about that but there is definitely a spiritual component involved. This is something I've experienced quite often since a small child. My grandfather had the same um..gift? It certainly doesn't always feel like a gift, but there have been some great ones come true as well.

Keep in mind vivid dreams and keeping a journal makes you more likely to have lucid dreams. So just be aware of it and if you're okay with it. Personally I believe every person has the right to lucid dreams....I know some people are against it though. It's unfortunate because we're so much more than physical beings, but it's hard to go outside the box.

All in all there's no spiritual reason you shouldn't keep a dream journal.

I have had pretty detailed dreams and also had dreams where nature is in it. Blue skies, trees, body of water... stuff like that. I do like having dreams where the scene or setting is nice. I don't usually remember exactly what it looks like later. I know one dream I had there were these very nice looking boats in them but now I don't remember what they looked like. I have heard of lucid dreaming. I don't think I have ever experienced that kind of dreaming. I would not advise anyone to try and make themselves lucid dream. It doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

I started lucid dreaming on accident. I had no idea we could wake up in a dream like that. I kept saying what else can I do?! I was ice skating and felt completely real except...I can't ice skate. No biggie, there's no fear. Started ice skating down a roller coaster.

Since then I've had a lucid dream probably once every 2-3 weeks for a few years. I'm typically chasing a toddler in real life so my energy is definitely down in the dream world. Lol

They vary in everything. Sometimes it's just fun like flying, sometimes spiritual. You can control the weather and colors are more vibrant during certain spiritual dreams. I can definitely see being tested in dreams more when lucid. I've also seen dreams float by like an island or a TV. When you interact with it you become a part of it. It gets closer and closer... The dreaming process is actually very interesting, even though we dream every night without realizing it. Your vision goes completing white (think bright white light), then you are in a dream.

However the best...is that there is a certain part where you can hear the voice of God. Now God always speaks to us, but most people don't think about it or hear it. You can hear an actual voice reply when asleep though. How do you know it's real? Because it aligns with scripture and because you feel a deep peace.

I'll probably never will write down a dream or keep a journal if given a revelation from the Lord.
If a dream is truly from the Lord, it will be so special there’d be no need to write it down...it’s something you'd never forget.

I don't see any problem with recording ones dreams.. I would however advise against people assuming that all their dreams are important messages from God.. While God does send messages to people in their dreams, most dreams i believe are self made..

I once had my grandfather mention vain imaginations (referring to scripture) when I related an odd dream I had...and I usually had them at their house for some reason. I thought on it a while because he did not entertain me and harshed my "dream high" but over the years I have considered what he said and I have come to believe that it certainly occurs. Specifically in that particular dream. I don't think it was just me and it was nonsensical. So yes, certainly.

and I would be incredibly leery @blueluna5 what you are describing can easily fall into dabbling if you aren't girding and spending time rooted in the word. Every believer should at least be on the fence about flight and anything that mirrors what is in films these days. Fantasy films are NOT alright, there are things in them that shouldn't have ever been shown. For profit no less. Much like porn.

It is not harmless. There are real dangers to letting your imagination run wild and the enemy is certainly able to deceive in dreams.
I'm not saying that this applies to dreams (I do not know) only that it occurred. 1 Kings 22:20-22.

I realize others believe the OT does not apply to dreams today but I wouldn't have realized occultic themes without it and I thank the Lord for it. I definitely wouldn't have understood that you can see things by your own spirit were it not for reading it in Ezekiel.

It added a third category for me. Myself that had somehow been beyond my grasp until this year and I felt strongly led to read Ezekiel and I was a bit stubborn about it but I finally did :)

It is certainly possible that the OT does not apply in precisely the same way (unless you consider the trickle vs torrent concept) but I find it odd that prophecy gifts would be mentioned in the NT without any sort of relevancy. Quite a leap in fact.

You must also consider why Balaam is mentioned so many times in the NT. I'm not suggesting that his error has anything to do with how the Lord worked through him in regard to Balak, but it bears further consideration.
