I saw an interesting article recently about heightism.
It suggested short men have a much harder time at being successful, getting dates and being
taken seriously than tall men.
Also that tall women struggle as well, as most men don’t want to date a taller woman
and that shorter women feel intimidated by tall women.
I’m a short woman 5’ 1”. There have been times I felt I wasn’t taken seriously at work
due to my height, but not often. Taller people sometimes seem to treat me like I’m
a child in a “there there” kind of way.
I can usually hold my own though I have “other attributes” so people can easily see I’m a
grown woman! It does sometimes get patronising in church when tall men lean over me
and sort of have that “there there” way of speaking and pat me on the the shoulder as if I was
a kid.
I just wondered whether anyone else has ever felt they were discriminated against or
maybe weren't taken seriously due to their height.
Oh and is it true that tall men are more likely to be successful in business and dating?
On the flip side I’ve seem short people who seemed to dominate a room or a discussion
without any problem and everyone take notice of them. So maybe it’s nothing to do with
height at all.
