United Methodists face vote on LGBTQ issues

Good. But I don't understand why gays would want to get married in a christian church in the first place. That would be like a buddhist couple wanting to get married in a synagogue.

I don’t support gay marriage, because marriage is between man and woman. I do support, though, their right to civil union, because I think it is better for society that people, whether they be gay or straight, don’t engage in sexual activity with random partners. Gays sexual activity is a health risk and I think that’s part of the reason why the Bible is speaking against it.

Unfortunately there a number of persons in the gay community that self-identify as Christian (it doesn't mean they meet the biblical criteria) that have been misled to believe that the Bible does not prohibit "committed homosexual relationships". They have been taught that what the Bible teaches against is against is non-committed relationships and "sleeping around." There are actual churches that began springing up in the late 60's (Metropolitan Community Church) that promote this teaching and typically a large percentage of their congregants are members of the LGBT community.



To reduce God's design for marriage to be a simple health concern (IMO) does biblical teaching a great disservice because if we can engineer out the problem (condoms) then man's logic would say that the reason for it's prohibition (homosexuality/premarital sex) no longer exists thus it must be OK.

If a homosexual couple wishes to remain monogamous they can do so without society "normalizing" it via marriage. Both civil unions and now gay marriage only give the couple legal rights of inheritance and rights to end of life/medical decisions for their partner that could have been achieved via a couple of legal documents prior to the "normalization" of homosexuality via state endorsed marriage.

I didn't realize that some churches were teaching that, a new one to me.

Some of them will go to the extent of claiming that David and Jonathan (King Saul's son) were closet homosexuals because of the verse that says David loved Jonathan, and that Paul's thorn in the flesh was homosexuality.

Just because a group calls them self a church does not mean God recognizes them as one of His.
Same can be said of people who call themselves Christian.
Lot of folks are going to be very surprised when they stand before God.

The fact that this is even being considered tells me where they are right now.
Very sad.
