Could someone answer these verses?

Matthew 5:13
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. "
This implies that it WAS salty, but then became tasteless. How do we explain that?[/QUOTE]
The sermon on the Mount was preached to the Jews and the Nation. The Jews had the Scriptures, and were supposed to be the salt and light to the Gentile world. They failed in that mission and most of them, the Nation, and Jerusalem were LITERALLY trampled under foot by men some 40 yrs later.
