What are your bible study methods? If you write notes in the margins, how do you make sure these don't distract from the text? What do you like writing notes on?
if i could give one word of advice:

sloooowwwwlllllyyyyyy

don't speed through the text. there's worth in reading it through quickly and getting the sense of the whole picture, for sure, and if you spend 10 years in "
in the beginning" wow are you ever going to finish? but you can spend 100 years on "in the beginning" and still be at the beginning. go back and spend time in it. meditate on it all day -- this is treasure, absolutely amazing, unlike any other book in the world. you won't be disappointed by looking closely at it -- don't ever think you've finished :)

I like illustrating passages out of the Bible and typically copy the verses instead of writing in the Bible.

I highlighted with different colors and make notes of the date I read it sometimes, but not often.

I like to highlight any passages in the OT that talk about Jesus/ prophecy of the Messiah.

How do you do the scriptural references in the margins? I thought about adding some cross references in my bible and make it easy to follow.
i do that in basically chicken scratch that probably only i can read. i don't have wide margins in the copy that i have all marked up over the years, so i write really small.

don't treat it like the physical object in your hands is holy; it's a copy, there are millions of these on earth, and you can always get another one. you're not going to 'ruin it' by writing in it. just put down whatever you want to remind yourself to look at next time you come back to that page, and do it however you think will suit you best. highlight or underline what touches you when you read it as really important, jot whatever note you think you might later forget. over the years that'll probably change some, and when you go back through, you'll be reminded of how you've grown, what you've forgotten, etc -- there's not a *wrong* way to make notes for yourself :)

Sticky notes help if you have small margins if you want to add cross reference verses

I thought about doing thus but, have not done it yet.

I have a collection of encouraging Bible verses for topics like worry, sadness, joy, anger, grace, mercy, forgiveness, friendship, awe/worship, praise, etc.

I was going to do color coded tabs for a new Bible and give them to my kids. So when they get discouraged they can find a color tab for the emotion and read that bible section, maybe I will include a mom note in a few.

Can’t the interpretation of the Holy Spirit be your dictionary??
I do not interpret the Scripture.
Words seem to change in meaning over time.
I use the dictionaries to understand what the original word meant when God inspired the writers to write.
I then pray that the Holy Spirit will help me understand.
It is all about proper understand what was originally written, not interpretation.

Another thing when it comes to Bible study---
Take opportunity to study with others.
While personal study is very important, one should never isolate themselves from studying with and learning from others.
Those who isolate themselves more often than not develop some wrong understanding.

We all should allow for what understanding others have, that is how they understand. If the result is always believing and cleaving to Jesus Christ, it does not matter if we agree something is a prable or not.

It is squite possible the person who sees it such has received spiritual understanding beyond the surface,. I know this occurs because although the basic knowledge of Salvation is the same for all, Jesus comes to each of us in the personal manner only He knows, so enough of this name calling, please.

It is good to not only rely on your interpretation of the bible but also to get input from others who may know the bible even better. There is nothing wrong with coming up with your own understanding of Scripture but it is not good to be so confident in your interpretation that you don't listen to others. I am not really sure though how to use a Hebrew or Greek dictionary for the bible... I would rather hear what others say about a passage or verse and share my view as to what I think of with the passage or verse.
There should be clickable Hebrew scriptures giving how to pronouce thewords and their definitions………...I could look in my "repetoirr" should you be interested...

A person must be careful on how we can hear God. The foundation for anti-christs as many, are those who say we do need a man seen to teach us . ( 1 John 2:27-28) We are lovingly commanded to study and when studying to seek His approval (not seen)

It does not mean we cannot have a favorite bible instructor that God has moved. But even the Son of Man when called good Teacher as Master, Rabbi he gave glory to the Father not seen saying, "only God not seen is good".

In Mathew 24 using the word father and the word Rabbi as teaching master. In respect to both he informs us one is our father in heaven, one is our teacher in heaven and are to call neither or any man father or teacher on earth,.

We walk by faith in respect to the Holy unseen place. No form could stand in that.It would as described in Daniel …."the abomination of desecration" .The invisable place of God's glory it is reserved for him alone.

Some like the Catholics fill that place with what they call patron saints (3500 and rising) available today. Scripture call that legion (3500 and rising) "workers with familiar spirits". which is an abomination of desecration that does seek to stand in the Holy place.

Rachel was guilty for following after that manner of legion she hid the image idols (teraphims )from her father . When one patron saint or worker with familiar spirit is conjured up a person gets the many(legion) and is why a idol image must be used to put a face on the one a person is hoping will aid them . 3500 idol images or patron saint medallions are available .They can be purchased on line at Amazon, Free shipping

Mark 5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

Luke 8:30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.

Therefore no man can serve two teaching masters. (1)God, not seen, and (2)things that money can buy. The things seen .

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon
