I would have a dog, but my long hours away from home make that impractical. A cat would be slightly more independent, but I still might come home and find the couch in shreds.

What does practical have to do with cats? If you don't have time to spend with them? They don't lay eggs, can't bark and won't guard your house. Would rather leave a dead rat, squirel or bird for us than eat the food we give them? LOVE is all!

Really ours dosn't eat here much, but she's tame enough to come by and visit, play with kids and bully kittens. She leaves the ducklings chicks & chickens alone but will snatch a low flying mocking bird, quail or dove right out of the sky............oops!

Their's an animal clinic next to my bank and the vet that runs it offers free no kill shelter for some unwanted animals. If they were sick or just unwanted he takes 'em in. Just pay for their shots, & all yours! Not just cats 'n dogs, he's just a nerd between Ace Ventura and Dr. Doolittle. He's got some wealthy clientel I think but my grand-daughters love to sneak over there and see what he's got. 3 teenage girls 2 wanna be vets, 1 a cheif. Yeah, not rock 'n roll, not bonehead jocks, or weed or liquoir. Pets! #1 A-O.K.

I want a big dog. There's one of me living in a small apartment and I have to work all day and am prone to spend a good chunk of time out and about on some or most weekends. So yeah, no dogs for me until something changes.

I'd tell u guys about my other pets, but remembering them makes me cry.
Talking about Tequila makes me cry too. Remembering her, looking at her picture gets me bawling.. but tears are good, Gabe. They can be therapeutic if you let them. :)

It's possible. The dog always seemed to have a predilection for big diesel trucks, and there was usually a big guy "steer"ing the truck...

Once the dog found out I could put some power behind "no" at range, all that came to an end. Fortunately for the dog's life...
I've been blessed none of my dogs have ever chased vehicles. but from day one, the get the bottle if they step one toe on the road without being by my side. I witnessed a dog get hit by a semi as a kid, and make sure my dogs have a healthy fear/respect of roads.

Yes mine did that for a while too. He was also smart enough to figure out that once he was out of arm's reach, "no" didn't matter very much. I finally got a remote control shock collar which fixed the problem and put some remote control muscle behind my "no."

He learned fast... I never had to change the batteries in the collar one time. Now he pays attention to "no."
I have a 3 setting training collar. never used the shock part. The buzz was enough for Teddy to learn the leash rules. Never had to use it for anything else.

Oh this reminds me... and makes me realize why my life is probably cursed.... When I was a kid about 8 years old, my friend's dog was on the sidewalk across the street from me and so I called it over so I could pet him (can't remember if it was a him or a her).... And it hesitated for awhile and then it came running towards me just as a car was coming and it got run over right in front of me. :( The driver tried to stop and his tires screeched so loud everyone in the neighborhood heard it, so my friend and his parents came running out and saw their poor dog :( I didn't know what to say or do. I was just standing there feeling horrible. I never did tell them that I was calling it over. :(

I'm allergic to Kitty cats. Though I did have one cat I miss dearly. I found her with a compound fracture as a kitten. Vet set it wrong and left her in a cast to long aswell. She adopted me. so I taught her the rules, no claws, and no getting in my face. we did good. I even taught her to attack my ex . Only house cat I ever had. She even helped me in my garden. Her name was Monty. ( family nick named her "wanker witch") anytime they walked by she would reach out and touch them. Claws extended. She was a charcter
