A statement of Charles Haddon Spurgeon

I would propose that the subject of the ministry of this house, as long as this platform shall stand, and as long as this house shall be frequented by worshippers, shall be the person of Jesus Christ. I am never ashamed to avow myself a Calvinist, although I claim to be rather a Calvinist according to Calvin, than after the modern debased fashion. I do not hesitate to take the name of Baptist.

Everyone should find Calvinism disturbing. The Bible says that Jesus died for all and is not willing that any should perish. He knocks on every heart's door. We all have a choice to make.


John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”


Revelation 3:20
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

We should hesitate to take on any name or label other than that of Christ Himself. There will be no denominational distinctions made in Heaven, and neither should there be any made here.

We are Christians. We are one.
