The "beasts" are human beings. There is no reason to make it otherwise. They act human.
You are beloved in Christ.
So when the horned beast in Revelation turns on the harlot who is riding it, burns her with fire, and devours her flesh, we should take that as literal? Lol.

Sorry, just... lol.

Obviously, not all of the Bible is literal. I use the hermeneutic called "plain meaning". In your reference, it is obviously metaphorical. Do you understand the metaphor? I can explain, if need be. (no joke)

I would like to hear you explain Daniel 7, which says the beasts rise from the sea. Do you take that literally too, or are you selective in your literalism?

To go one step farther, JStates, we are talking about two different beasts. That beast you mention is Satan

If I were not selective (critical) in my use of taking things literally, I would not understand anything in the Bible. My hermeneutic is not literalism; it's plain meaning, which allows for ALL tools in speech.
Many times in prophesy, the "sea" is the people.
So, no. It's not a Leviathon in Daniel 7. But what those beasts are is explained in the text anyway (by the angel).

If the beast in Revelation is Satan, what is it devouring?

In a general sense you are correct, I guess. The terrible horned beast is Antichrist's kingdom. It is actually the same beast in Daniel 7. The Antichrist's kingdom is the last human empire before Christ's return.

Your sentiment is very humble and loving. May I learn about the 5 crowns and the 9 manifestations? That's new to me.

1. Crown of life
Jas 1:12
Blessed the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

A better translation of that verse could read…. Blessed is the man who stands fast on the Word against adversities showing himself approved, he shall receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to them that love Him.

2. Crown Incorruptible
1Co 9:25
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Self-discipline…training yourself in doing (walking) the Word of God. 1Co 9:26&27 are corresponding verses to this.

3. Crown of Rejoicing
1Th 2:19
For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

The crown of rejoicing is for witnessing and getting people to the point of receiving the gift of holy spirit.

You have to go back to 2:13 to pick up the context of this.

4. Crown of Righteousness
2Ti 4:7
have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

That is pretty self-explanatory. It is also in the context of athleticism, not as a warrior. A corresponding verse to this could be Phl 3:14.

5. Crown of Glory
1Pe 5:2
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

1Pe 5:3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

This applies to anyone in the body of Christ who is walking, leading and taking the oversight of the believers in the body of Christ…..not just evangelists, teachers, ministers….. etc
