I have always been a tea drinker and enjoyed herbal, black and green teas.
Years ago, I noticed that the tea bags were transitioning from the cloth looking bags to plastic. I was disappointed but used them if I happened to buy a new box of tea with it by accident.

For twenty years, I have thrown out Teflon cookware, plastic cups and used stainless, glass and ceramic instead. I've formally studied the agricultural industries so I trust them not to provide safe food products at the source or processing. When the heat resistant plastic bags came along, I wondered what chemicals leach into our hot beverages. Now we find that it's worse than I thought!
Micro and nano plastics that directly enter the cells nucleus come from the tea bags. Those who use Keurig coffee containers should also be concerned. Boiling water over plastic can be tasted without a high tech lab spectrometer. I notice the difference between milk from a plastic jug and that from glass.
Test this for yourself.

The forever chemicals in Teflon coated (aka wax) cartons cannot contribute to health either.

What are we to do?
Are you also looking for solutions?

As far as tea goes, a stainless steel tea ball is ideal. Even if you do buy bagged tea just cut the bag open and pour the herbs into the tea ball.

Forever Chemicals is new to me. I watched a cookware commercial that referred to them as they promised the product they manufactured has none.

I think we can worry ourselves silly thinking of ways to dodge all the chemicals that may reside in consumables.

If we think about and add to that the toxins in the air we breathe will we ever have peace?

I understand that. There's not much you can do about air pollution when they are spraying us like bugs.
At least, we can eliminate Major chemicals like PTFE/ Teflon pans. Those are extremely toxic, especially when heat is applied. I wish I learned that sooner. Stainless steel and cast iron cookware works well without the toxins added. I like the heavy bottom stainless and copper bottom pans...personal preference handed down to the second generation from Dad.

You are helping yourself with using your stainless tea ball.
Water is another major thing we can control and improve our health. I should devote a new thread to that as soon as I get the latest on third party lab results of purifiers.
People would be shocked to know what is added to municipal water.

Sorry you got sick, but the way you said it was funny.
You get an 🏆 for growing your own.
That's usually the best way unless you have a neighbor like mine.
He sprayed mine with poison.
Oh, I was not growing my own, just mixing my own bulk-bought ingredients. Obviously that batch was too strong, and there is always the chance of mixing things you should not or using something you should not, without knowing it, though I researched such things fairly thoroughly back then. That would have been more than 25 years ago because I was walking to work = I did not have a car.

Is there still a store or two in your area that sells bulk herbs and teas?

The place I used to buy most of those types of things closed down during covid. I had probably shopped there for thirty years or so, because they had such great prices, fresh foods, and a very good/wide selection of products, especially for such a small non-franchised mom and pop style place... I am trying to remember where else I used to buy bulk like that... But it has also been a while since I've made my own like I did for a time, there. And of course there is always Celestial Seasonings, though I preferred Stash teas and Traditional Medicines. Licorice tea was a fave of mine for quite some time and then I learned I should not be drinking it for blood pressure reasons, grrr. Mostly I just drink coffee anymore (mostly morning only), and always water.

We had a business/ co-op that's been around all my life too. They went out of business with libtard business policies after COVID. They required every customer to mask up before entering. Then they made everyone shop online, order and pick up while remaining outside. Their small but faithful customers got tired of the hassle and that ended our only bulk tea/ herb place in the area.
