In earlier years, many people were uneducated, illiterate, and with scant sources of information. With the invention of the printing press the first printed Bible in 1455 was in Latin. You had to be a Catholic priest in order to have access to a Bible. As a matter of fact, according to Foxe's Book of Martyrs (first published in 1563), the Catholic Church forbade the possession of a Bible by lay people. Violaters were severely punished. The Catholic Church was and is corrupt. The Vatican is the richest organization in the world. If they represented the real Church, they would have used all of their accumulated wealth to feed the starving and provide better living conditions for the poor. The point is that ignorant people have through the ages gathered together in buildings to get relgious information from "informed" individuals.
Presently, we are living in the " Information Age". Most people are literate, educated, and have an incredible number of different sources of information concerning the Bible and its content. No longer are we dependent on individuals to dispel truths. If you are truly a born again Christian, you would hunger for truth and do your own research as well.
I am in favor of getting together with other Christians at a set time and place to worship together, discuss truths, encourage each other, and display the love which binds all true Christians in the family of God. My concern is for those that get paid lavishly for their service to the Lord. I keep thinking what the Bible says about receiving your reward on earth instead of in Heaven. There are some local Churches where members are employed elsewhere and devote their own personal time and money to maintaining the building, providing for functions, and sending the rest of the money collected to missions throughout the world. Money collected and how dispersed is posted every month.
