YEP, I've experienced it all, but what is most surprising to me is how hoes divide us, as a country and our relationships. it is so much like the civil war, American against American, brother against brother. to me, no mater what our opinion is, it's not worth fighting over, so much hate and anger, after 60 years i dont get mad any more, it is not worth it to me when i can choose to not be mad. i'm gonna enjoy myself for the rest of my life no matter how bad something might be, i will even lie to myself because nothing is worth taking my happiness away. very different from when i was younger. i have learned alot the hard way, now it has been all for the good. and i can look back at my life and feel very blessed all the way through my past since the day i was born. very blessed
Eh, it's all a matter of perspective. We just think we're really divided.

Talk to any comedian who has done world tours. They will tell you they have seen REAL divided. "You're thinking about Syria. Now that's divided! America doesn't even come close."

From what I can gather from old news stories and elders I have talked to, the level of divided we see has always been with us, at least for the last more than a century now. We think it's terrible, but nobody is launching rockets at anybody here.

Check out Norman Rockwell's picture about election Day. It features a young couple arguing over election candidates, while their baby cries. And that was almost a century ago.

I will never understand it. I've told them this person is temporary. They will be gone. We don't have to talk about it. We're family and will be family long after whoever is in office is gone. It really surprised me and it hurt. I hope one day they might change their minds but so far, nothing I have said has helped so I have to leave it with God.

I have the same solution for my brother and anything LGBT whatever whatever whatever. He really, really, really really reallyreallyREALLYREALLYreally likes to talk about how homophobic the people he disagrees with are, but I told him I will not talk to him about anything related to politics or religion. If he starts talking about it, he knows I will just stop talking to him.

I don't think she's talking about you. I think she just means the rabid ones. In my experience you are not one of those people who looks for any excuse to turn any given conversation into pro-Trump ranting.
I really try not to. But with Trump talking about making Canada a state, that sent them over the edge. One cousin, not a believer, wrote me and cussed me out. I told him this guy is gonna be in office however long and I'm not fighting about it. I have a lot more in life to worry about. And I cannot control what any president does. It's up to their leaders to work it out. Us screamin' at each other is doing nothing. But then they get on and bash Americans and I have to remind them my sister and I are married to Americans. It's just sad. It does seem like the civil war in that I'm between the country where I was born and grew up and my adopted country, where I got married and have family here too. smh

to the question about singing, and when i was thinking of the question about Jesus, i remember a song that i had learned when i was very young, "he has the whole world in his hands" that was talking about Jesus.

People try to catch you up in vain arguments. My hubby wanted me to watch a movie called Heretic that he saw the other day. I won't go into the movie. It just had some "religious" arguments in it and my hubby wasn't brought up in church and wanted my opinion. So I watched and that part came up and I said " yes all these arguments have been used by atheists and have been debunked". The thing is a lot of them don't know they have been debunked so it's their go to talking points to try and win a religious argument. So we have to try to not let people drag us down who just want to continue to argue to be right, because even if you "win" they will never concede.

Then there are people who think Trump is the divine emissary of God, appointed and chosen to set right everything that is evil in our government.

Both sides should be avoided. There is no profit in talking to them about their favorite topic.

Even trying to change the topic to something like chocolate or video games is pointless. They will always find a way to drag it back to rabidly pro or rabidly anti-Trump. It's better to just leave them alone and go eat some chocolate or play a video game.

there is super nice older man in my family ( my aunt's husband's father) that is like you said here.

when gets rolling on trump ( he is big time pro) , it is hard to get him off of it, and when you do, it is not long till he is back on it...
