I still don't see why we haven't just flown a plane out to the edge. The record for a long flight was many thousands of miles, but that was set long ago and modern technology could break it easily.

You don't even need an experimental plane like they had back then. Load up a jetliner with extra fuel tanks (which is very inefficient for commercial travel but very effective for long range flights) and take a flight out to the edge of the world. Bring a good camera.
There is no edge, that's why. People have also sailed around the earth. A US airforce pilot told me he'd flown around the earth. It is roughly spherical. FE people will not believe eyewitness accounts. Go borrow Ken Copeland's jet, set up aerial refuelling with the USAF and fly around the earth yourself. It will only cost you a million dollars or so.

Really, there is no need for such a palaver. It's been done, countless times. It's even been done without refueling:

The Rutan Model 76 Voyager was the first aircraft to fly around the world without stopping or refueling. It was piloted by Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager. (No relation to Chuck Yeager).

The flight took off from Edwards Air Force Base's 15,000 foot (4,600 m) runway in the Mojave Desert on December 14, 1986, and ended 9 days, 3 minutes and 44 seconds later on December 23, setting a flight endurance record. The aircraft flew westerly 26,366 statute miles (42,432 km; the FAI accredited distance is 40,212 km)[1] at an average altitude of 11,000 feet (3,350 m).

Several hundred people were marching on Anzac day. One of the soldiers was out of step. His proud son looked on and exclaimed, "Look! Daddy is the only one in step!" He went on to be the founder of the flat earth society. And if you believe that, Santa will be coming to your house in a couple of weeks. Btw, he know that the earth is round.

They keep flying the wrong way and return to where they started...maybe it's the twilight zone or something.
I know when I grew up flying with my dad, it was smog or ozone depletion that made the horizon looked curved.
Or perhaps it was the twilight zone. Or maybe the Chinese. They're really smart...they could do that!
Or maybe it is really not flat. It's curved whether there is ozone depletion or not. Ancient Greeks knew the earth was round. Ozone depletion and smog had not been invented then.

Oh my how silly we become when we think others are serious!

I do believe this thread was meant as a joke and to have off the cuff comments intending to be funny.BUT.................
Some who believe the earth is flat have taken offense.

Gravity,man on moon,flat earth,all irrelevant.......

The gravitational pull keeps bringing us back, we never can reach the edge.
I've seen some pathetically ridiculous assertions around this site, but yours wins for this month.

Has it occurred to you yet that he was making a [sarcastic] joke based on the incorrect assumption about gravity pulling everything [sideways] to the center on a Flat Earth??? :p

What? Are FEers not allowed to make jokes in a FE joke thread? o_O

I think it is funny that he pulled your leg and you fell for it that far and deep.

Cute, but you know that freighter would really have broken in half instead of just sitting there like a stick of wood. :p
Or, perhaps, it would have "glided right off" without the opportunity to tilt as it went...

I miss Gary and Moses. They were informative.

All we have left is people, on both sides, who like to yell at each other. That's no fun.
Perhaps if people (speaking in general, not targeting you) would "abuse less" the folks who are sincerely trying to help other sincere people better understand the topic...

And, I did not say anything about trying to get anyone to accept or believe anything - I just said help others to understand it. (conceptually)

Oh shut up!
Merry Christmas!
I know you mean well - but, so do Dino and Lynx.

Only, Dino has yet to fully understand that "I really don't give a rat's-crappin-tail" any more about convincing anyone to accept or believe FE - only in helping others to better understand it if they are sincere...

By no means am I "pushing it" - and generally don't even visit the FE threads unless I get 'bored' with other threads.

Sometimes I get 'bored' with CC as a whole --- too often, just a bunch of [so-called?] Christians who would rather argue than anything else.

When that happens, it is time for a break away from the BDF.

These days, I actually spend more of my thought-energy on how I might lead people to Christ. The whole FE thing has sort-of fallen to the wayside.

I still ponder it sometimes, but it is not nearly as important as some other things.

Also in scripture is the passage referring to the 4 corners of the earth, flat circles don't have corners.
Flat squares do, however...

The 'Antarctic' ice ring/wall is not the edge of the earth.

But - yes - it 'bounds' the oceans.

The edge of the earth is hundreds if not thousands of miles beyond the ice ring/wall.

The actual shape of the outermost edge may be a circle or a square.

Based on what the Bible says, I believe it to be a square.

In the context of some things - yes; in the context of some other things - very relevant.

In this thread - obviously - definitely not...

:)

Someday, some of us are gonna have a mouth opening awakening!

Frankly it's hard to tell when Rollo is joking. He says five unbelievable things before breakfast.

Or maybe it's just me getting distracted... Every time I see a Rollo post I get hungry for chocolate. :sneaky:
