Yes he said that of Lazarus, though I am curious of Moses and Elijah speaking to Jesus. A Vision it was but it seems a real vision as in spirits talking to Jesus.
Not just Lazarus, But the girl in Luke 8:52/Matthew 9:24, and referred to as sleep multiple other places as well. Such as, for example:

1 Thessalonians 4:13
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who
are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

1 Thessalonians 4:14
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through
Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.

1 Corinthians 15:6
Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time,
most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.

Daniel 12:2
And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some
to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Matthew 27:52
The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised,

I agree it was a vision in the other Scripture you reference, for Jesus said so :)

I do agree death is like sleeping, though I do believe God can raise anyone for his purposes at anytime.

Who dropped the ball figure of speech, Jesus told the disciples not to tell anyone what they saw yet we have the account in the Bible how that happened?

Can you imagine if after someone dies they came back as a spirit, just roaming about, observing life, yet not able to be apart of it?

The dead husband would get to observe his wife getting remarried.

The proud home owner who died would get to see someone else living in the house they once owned.

Or having a front row seat to watch relatives fighting over who gets what, and just being able to see people sorting through stuff...this item here goes to the dumpster, this to charity, this as a memento...

Can you imagine such a thing? In what sense then can we say the dead is resting in peace? It would be more of torment I would think.

That is why God in His mercy and goodness made it so that: the dead know nothing- Ecclesiastes 9:5

This is what the word of God says, and we must not entertain any other thoughts.

This suggests it wasn’t Samuel, but a demon.

https://www.ucg.org/bible-study-too...host-of-samuel-appear-to-saul-after-his-death

Remember also that Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus but they were in their
glorified bodies. Samuel was not!
I’ve read this thread here is where the author I think is making a miss leading statement because Saul was already warned he was cut off, Samual reminded Saul of that there was no demon that depress Saul Saul was reminded of that fact.

here’s the clip from that post what the author said.

We might ask, “If it was really a demon communicating with Saul, why did it tell him the truth?” (1 Samuel 28:16-19; compare 13:9-14; 15:8-9, 26; 31:2-4). We must remember that the primary goal of Satan and his demons is to destroy us. By selectively telling Saul pieces of the truth, the demon posing as Samuel was able to depress him to the point where Saul was no longer able to stand up (1 Samuel 28:20).

1 samual 15
24Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; I have transgressed the LORD’s commandment and your instructions, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25Now therefore, please forgive my sin and return with me so I can worship the LORD.”

26“I will not return with you,” Samuel replied. “For you have rejected the word of the LORD, and He has rejected you as king over Israel.”

27As Samuel turned to go, Saul grabbed the hem of his robe, and it tore. 28So Samuel said to him, “The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to your neighbor who is better than you. 29Moreover, the Glory of Israel does not lie or change His mind, for He is not a man, that He should change His mind.”

There is the verse, Romans 12:2~ Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. And also Colossians 2:8~ See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. :) They seem relevantly pertinent to me :D

That seems more proper than any, thoughts should be selective. I might of harped on it a bit but wording does mean a lot I’m learning myself these things all the time. lol

I think there’s only one way to ponder on what is good and acceptable and perfect is by pondering what is not as well.

Hi Jam0n,

In the words of Jesus, Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

It is vital that we have the correct understanding of what happens when we die. Because deception is great in the world. And many will be deceived on this point.

The problem is that people go on what they were taught by parents or pastor and does not study the scriptures for themselves. And when the truth is being presented they reject truth for what they feel or what is convenient for them. People have attitude that I have grown up in this church and I will die in this church. Our understanding is progressive, we learn everyday and there is nothing wrong with staying at church which preach truth your whole life also. But it is attitude that is more crucial.

And therefore I like 1 Corinthians 13, where Paul says that even though you can speak with tongues of men or angels and not have love, it is worthless or have gift of prophecy and know all the mysteries and all knowledge and etc but no love, it is for nothing.

And we are here to help eachother, because if we cannot get along here on earth, how could we expect to get along in heaven magically.

And this is probably off topic, but to me it is our attitude that needs to be right and our honesty when it comes to the word.

When truth is presented, it always makes an impact on the hearers. They are intrigued. People were hanging on the lips of Jesus. Because Jesus didn't present the gospel like the Pharisees.

Even when we present our understanding of scripture it should be done in sincere and pure motive to other person otherwise what we are doing here will avail nothing.

Lets love eachother and correct each other in love. I know it is difficult because each one think they have the truth lol....

God be merciful on us.

I agree and I posted what I have because of places like beyond today United church of God is deceiving people by saying Samual was a demon, the author of that post danced and dodged around the fact that Saul was warned but Samual and that was allowed, it wasn’t a witch and a demon that’s pure personal theology of United church of God grasping at all kinds of verses to justify that notion of Samual being a demon.

When Saul went to the witch of Endor to summon the spirit of Samuel, it wasn't a demon that showed up. I've read that demons are the ghosts of fallen angels and the evil people that were killed in the flood of Genesis 6.
thats interesting what you said about demons being fallen angels, from what I’ve read it appears angels are not asleep, I assume fallen or not.
