That awkward moment when you've just seen a bear in a pond, but everybody else tries to tell you it was probably just a beaver. And then not two minutes later, someone comes running in going, "Check it out! There's a black bear running across the field!" And you all run to look, and the bear is running away from the pond. And nobody remembers that they just told you you're crazy.
Something similar happened to me, only on a more...weird level.
My family was camping one year, and the creek/river is very clear. I like to watch the fish, so I put on some goggles and stuck my face underwater to watch. Apparently when you go underwater, your nose has air bubbles around the nostrils. I kid you not, this one small fish swam up to me, and popped the air bubbles with his mouth! Then more air bubbles would form, and he'd just keep popping them! When other fish swam close to me, he'd chase them away. It reminded me of the fish on Finding Nemo, "MY bubbles." But when I told my family, they kinda rolled their eyes, were indifferent, or were like "...Ok, Rachel. Whatever you say."
But then, when I insisted they come over there and watch, they were all amazed and they wanted a turn having that fish pop their nose air bubbles. And I could only go "See?? I TOLD you!" I could see why a nostril-bubble-popping protective fish would be hard to believe...but why would I make a story up like that?
We named him Booger.
Even when we came back the next few days, he would come out again. It was cute. And strange.
Point of the story is...I can relate.
