I remember when I was growing up that most of the elder women use to be in obedience to God's Word and covered their heads. But as time has passed it got to the point where you hardly would see women even covering their heads.

Many arguments have been made such as...

1. "That verse is open to interpertation."
2. "We're not under law, but under grace."
3. "The Spirit hasn't made that verse real to me yet."
4. "That's cultural."
5. "That's legalistic."
6. "My pastor doesn't teach that."
7. "My denomination doesn't believe that."
8. "I don't know what that verse means, but it doesn't mean what it says."

In my opinion it's plain disobedience to His Word.
If we love the Lord then we should be obedient to His Word both male and female.

May God Bless those who are in obedience to His Word!

What tradition says is not important, what is done and not done is not important, being different in the church you go to isn't important. Following God, even in the little things like to cover or not cover our heads is importlant.

I am not sure what God wants, I can't make out the meaning of His instructions. So, I take the prettiest scarf I can find and slip it over my head. I'm considered eccentric. They say, Oh, is that a prayer scarf. I'd like so much to not be considered eccentric over this, but there it is! It could be God does not consider it necessary, but if God does, I prefer obeying God than men.
I know the feeling of being "eccentric" :D

Sis your LONG hair is a covering. And as long as you do it in FAITH it is fine. God said if one eats meat and does it in faith it is fine.. if another does not eat meat, and does it in faith, even the meateater should not eat meat... ETC.

I say DO IT IN FAITH, and it is fine, but if the prayer does not get answered START searching WHY God does not answer prayers... then DO AS HE TAUGHT!...

Yea most of the time people categorize it as a cultural thing since I'm from India and I do wear Indian outfits to church mostly. So they think it's part of that, but IT'S NOT! I have seen some women from Ghana who would wear their traditional outfits with beautiful hats that would cover their heads. But when I talked to them, they said they did it because it said it in the Bible and not as the part of their outfits. I didn't feel so lonely then :D

If you read carefully , women and men; should never speak ( chatter ) nor disrupt When God's word is being taught. So men should be silent in the church as well... I know from reading the scriptures that God would love to see most men on this earth silenced .

Matthew 7:21-23

King James Version (KJV)

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name ( be silent women, in the name of Guwd! ) ? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

You think these kinds of teachings like women be silent, and rapture are going to sit well with Christ ? No. not at all.

We must remember that when Paul wrote his letter to the church at Corinth, it was addressed to "All" in every place that call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
1Cor 1:2
Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours
:

So it would have nothing to do with culture or even time as some would argue.
God Bless you sister for being obedient to His Word!

Because I feel very uncomfortable when I don't cover my head. Well thank God! the church that I attend now, is okay with it. I mean there are still those few "eyes" that always look at me like, is she crazy or what?! But I do feel convicted when I don't cover it.
Here is a word of encouragement to stand for your convictions despite the roving eyes with badges...

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
(Gal 5:1)

There is no law that says you must not wear a head covering in the assembly. You have the freedom to do so.

Song you married? What about your husband, who is his covering? I ask because there is much said about married couples... about women in marriage and virgins in marriage...

What we DO is what we ARE! We may believe with the ehart, but if the faith has no works, it is DEAD.

I would like to show the young people something, that is why I ask.

What we do is what we are? Bull-dust! Who we put our trust in, is who we are. So we should be putting out trust in God because we're made in his image!

Tintin here is the verse I was refering too.... Not the TALKERS of the Word is of God the DOERS OF THE WORD ARE... and we will only DO what God says if we HAVE TRUSTED HIM....Not if we SHOULD TRUST but HAVE TRUSTED...

Do not tell me you are a Christian, SHOW ME! Or just be quiet.

Remember the saying,.... Talk is cheap, money byus the whisky.... And does not the WORKS of the faithful women confess their holiness... Not their trust, their WORKS.

And you say WE SHOULD put our trust in God.... SHOULD did you or did you not, AND ARE YOU IN HIS IMAGE?

Faith in action is living faith, yes. I don't deny that. Yes, I aim to put my trust in God and yes, I'm created in his image, as all people are. Being created in the image our Creator, Saviour, Lord and Redeemer is one of the things that separates us from animals. The question is whether we accept the grace he offers through Jesus sacrifice. Yes, now that is the real question.

When I was in India, I used to cover my head with a scarf in Church or basically at any gathering, where we took the Lord's name. This was practiced "mostly" by all women there. When I moved to the US, I didn't see women covering their's heads, doesn't matter which denomination Church I went to. At at some churches, I was looked down upon when I did cover my head. I have asked few pastors this question but no one was able to give me an answer that made sense. So help me out people. Thanks in advance. Blessings :)
In verse 3 of 1 Cor 11 Paul first went on talking about order of authority; the head of Christ is God (of course members of the trinity are co-equal but Jesus submitted to the Father). Christ is the authority over man so he shouldn't cover his head when praying otherwise he is dishonouring Christ. The woman should submit to her husband just as the angels are in submission to God, so when her head is covered it shows she's under submission to him. In verse 14 and 15 Paul clearly stated that a woman's long hair is given for her covering, while men are not to have long hair so he was saying there should be such distinction.

But hey, if you feel convicted to wear a veil when praying, go ahead, no one should criticize you. Some women wear hats to church for fashion purposes. :)

But I don't think there's sufficient evidence to mandate wearing veils or hats.

The Lord led me to write two books about head-covering. The first "Sunset of the Western Church," published in 1982, is now out of print." The sequil, "Demons on the Church," published in 1993, is still available as a FREE download from www.ellisskolfield.com .

God judges our faith by what lies in our hearts and others know "our faith" by the life that we lead (actions). Because obviously they can't really look into our hearts and see what we believe. So I think what Cobus is trying to say is, again emphasizing my point OUTER APPEARANCE CHANGES WHEN SOMETHING HAS CHANGED INSIDE. Without the inner change of heart, our lives and actions will obviously not reflect Jesus' life.

So my question is, has Indians and Europeans been interpreting these verses wrong for years and years? I mean I can understand if it's one or two people, but entire Christian community of India can't be wrong, right?

So are you talking about the acceptance of grace in a sense that, "God I will disobey you and not live my faith for 6 days of the week but on the 7th day, I will be forgiven because of the grace you've blessed me with oh so very freely?" Grace= free license to disobey God and sin?

Hi, love your post because I wonder the same things. Christians are in different places spiritually, so when you get looks from others in the congregation that is why. Some just don't understand. When you try to dicuss this subject it is implied your being legalistic. The same goes with the way we need to dress. If Joshua did not obey God when He said to march around Jericho 7 times and disobeyed Him i wonder what would have happened. And if Noah did not build the ark that the Lord instructed him to build because the people were mocking him, what would have happened. There are so many examples to give concerning obedience. If the Lord is convicting your spirit to cover your head then by all means cover your head. You will be a wonderful example to other women who were maybe feeling the same as you. Does the enemy want you to be uncomfortable. Absolutley. Does he want you to walk in disobedience to the Lord. Absolutley. It is a very beautiful thing to cover your head before the Lord. it is a wonderful wittness. 1 Corinthians 11:5-6
