Why did Job ask to be sent to Hell?

Why was Job, who was called blameless upright & God fearing, asked to be sent to Hell?

(Job 14:13) I wish you would hide me in Sheol and keep me hidden there until your anger cools. Set a specific time for me when you will remember me.

(Job 1:1-3) There happened to be a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man proved to be blameless and upright, and fearing God and turning aside from bad.

Sheol can simply mean the grave in some verses. Job was depressed and asking to be covered in the grave because he felt that would be better than his current condition.

Closemyeyes2cU I could go with that, maybe Job was was thinking the same thoughts of King Solomon.

(Ecclesiastes 9:5) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.

Job probably did think that Hell was the Grave of mankind, but then how are we discern when Sheol means the simple grave and when Sheol is a literal Hell? is it simply at a person discretion, if it is that's a bit biased, it should be one or the other as the Grave and a literal Burning Hell are two completely different things.

"Hell" is really a bad translation for the word "Sheol" or "Hades" in any verse. It means grave or the abode of the dead. Nobody is in the eternal hell (Gehenna) yet. That doesn't happen until judgment day.

If Hell along with Hell-fire is only symbolic as you must believe, then why do you think the lake of fire/Gehenna isn't symbolic but a real place?

The fire may very well be symbolic, but the place is absolutely real. The Bible makes that clear.

Job's friends where talking to him trying to convince him he had to do something wrong, for like 39 close to 40 chapters they were accusing him of wrong doing.

Then Finally in Chapter 40 I think God answers Job out of the whirlwind, and basically says " Why are you listening to these idiots "". And I have heard preachers and pastors give sermons on what Jobs friends said, sad. Anyway . Its emotion, emotion, emotion,. an perfect example of this is

Luke 16:19-31

(KJV)


22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.


The rich man is not in literal flames, this is how he feels emotionally . It's a figure of speech. Learning figures of speech is important.
 
Job was a picture of Jesus In that he was not suffering for his own sin. through out job there are clear prophetic comparisions with Jesus. Maybe his desire to be in the grave is jesus talking about his decending into hell ,for our sins, till the fathers anger toword us is satisfied
 
Job was expressing his pain with strong words.

There is so much learning to take from Job, one being that we can learn from our suffering.........

Will we remain Faithful when it all falls down around us?

Yahvah God is Great and Loving always and forever.

That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past,
That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

You shall desire the work of Your hands.

But do not watch over my sin.

it speaks of hope...Job looks toward the New Heaven and New Earth and resurrection

1 cor 15
51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

so many verses in NT reflect.

he didnt, he asked to die, sheol means death, not hell
