Matthew 19:4-6

"4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who[a]made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”"

Well, I couldn't find a verse that says, you need a marriage certificate, but by your own words, do you think you two are married? From your own words, "we are exclusive not dating anybody" and "committed to one another". To me this sounds like your going steady and are living together. Finally, you are saying, "I've been living with my girlfriend". Why not say, I have been living with my wife? Something to consider. That should be the question right?

From your own testimony is sounds like your going steady with your girlfriend and living together. Please set the record straight, if that's not the case. Also, ask your girlfriend, if she thinks your married, or just living together?

From your own testimony you don't consider her your wife, but girlfriend. I think you are just trying to justify your living arrangement. By the way, congratulations on your "exlusivive not dating anybody else". Doesn't that sound like marriage, or going steady?

There was Jesus who said Certificate of Divorce in Matthew 19. That being said , this idea of shacking up is nothing new. Free loving was stated in the 60's with hippies and what is was rebellion. Why buy the cow if you get the milk for free? With no legal recognized marriage by the law of the land and by GOD man can do what he wants. He can walk away any time without any legal ramification. That is just a scared little boy playing house with a Nieve girl. WE like to spilt hairs with the word of God and say "there is nothing that says you need a marriage certificate to be married in the bible."

LOL yet is shacking up Christ like? Did Jesus support marriage and the marriage ceremony of his day? YES, he did. Did Jesus obey the laws of the land? Yes, he did. Did Jesus say render to creaser what is creaser's and to God what is God's? Yes, he did.

Did Jesus say that a certificate of Divorce was a document legitimizing one was in fact married? Yes, it does,
The word of God is clear that marriage is a Covent just like Circumcision was. Did one do their own circumcision? No. Does one do their own marriage? No. No where in the Bible do you see marriage without Father and families involved.

To think otherwise is self -justification. The 60's saw divorce raise to 14 % yet those who hooked up and separated and moved on to another so-called wife is unknown. But God is not mocked. He knows why one doesn't want to marry. Here are some reasons why one wants to be deceptive:

  1. still legally married not yet divorced but want to be with someone else and justify if.
  2. no money because paying from first or second marriage
  3. taxes
  4. hiding another relationship while with another person.
That is just some.

Very good post! You reminded me of something in the Bible...

1 Timothy 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5 because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

So we're seeing that right now.

Why bother to get married? Abstain from meat and go vegan!

🕊

There are cults that demand such things as abstaining for meat and going vegan. Sad way to live for sure. You provided an excellent verse from Timothy in regard to this.
is it not demonic how they say don't eat meat or get married but go to islands and kill children and eat them?

Debate isn't a fruit of the Spirit.

Does that mean we are required to sit down shut up and do whatever our pastor tells us?

God has to acknowledge your union too. That is the most important. I still don't know if you talked to Him about this.

In the Bible, God Himself brought Eve, the bride, to Adam, the groom. That was the marriage ceremony.

The question was does God require people to get a marriage license from the state before God recognizes the marriage as being legit?

Marriage is a sacramental bond not a legal agreement

Apparently we are already married and we don't need a marriage license from the state.

Since these deal is already done were aren't planning on having any parties.

Well that's how they used to do it back in the OT days. There was no state license back then. So they'd have a private ceremony and invite all their friends and throw a feast. Get dressed up. This ceremony is all about bringing God into the marriage. I would think you would want to do that?

I presume you are talking about Common-law marriage, is that correct? I thought you didn't want the government in on it? Is there any reason that you wouldn't want to have a ceremony for God, to acknowledge Him in the Marriage?

Who is the important one in your relationship? You? Your Wife? or God? Something to think about my friend. God gave us the help meets of a Wife and Marriage which is how He wants us to do it. God's the last one you want to disappoint. You don't care enough to try to do it the right way, in obedience to God? That is what would please God is if you even tried to do it right. You have integrity concerning your Wife, right? What's wrong with God, Brother?

And i asked you if you talked about it with God? He will tell you Himself.

Why will you not ask Him yourself???

You're a Christian too right?

Why would i have to do this for you?

I've been living with my girlfriend and we are exclusive not dating anybody else and are committed to one another

So why is this not considered being married?

Can anybody show my in the bible where we are told to get a marriage certificate and go before a judge so he can pronounce us man and wife in order to be married?

This is called shacking up/ using her, and committing fornication = sin

Friend, you need to make it right by repenting and marrying her.
