I honestly think that most illness is caused by our DNA mutating because we have ingested something that is not good for us , either by eating , drinking or breathing in man made pollutants . Then when we have children we pass on our mutations to them and they have children with someone else who's DNA has been damaged etc etc etc . It's all a long way off from Adam and Eve and the pure earth and air and plants and animals that existed in the garden of Eden very sad but ! We have such assurances ! God will make all things new and that includes us ! Everything clean and pure as it was in the beginning .

Anyone who would like to discuss 'multiple personality disorder' or 'dissociative identity disorder' please respond to this post. I need to learn as much as I can about the condition because I believe Our Lord identified that condition when He spoke to the folks in His hometown synagogue saying;
(Isaiah 61:1) "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD anointed me To bring good news to the humble; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners;

The short answer is 'yes/probably'.

I'm trying to understand the nature of DID. My world view is rooted in the words and the revelation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, my studies so far lead me to believe that DID is possibly a reference to a mechanism that our Father has built into us to allow us to survive horrific experiences.

Many well meaning people think that the behavior associated with DID indicates demon possession. That misguided response has prevented people who are experiencing DID from receiving the help only an enlightened body of Christ can provide. That is a tragedy.

Yes, I read the whole demon possession has arrived to this thread, or somehow diet can cause
DID, and agree it is misguided.
I am just thinking more on your "thesis" so to speak.
Of course I like the idea that God has given some internal mechanism to heal from dissociation due to trauma, although there may not be much information from that approach.
I will post on your profile any "articles" that I think may support your line of investigation.

Lots of people use gas stoves and I'm guessing most don't know about this. You'd think they'd put a warning sticker on the stove and advise using the fan hood, open windows, masks, etc. Most studies are in agreement with the danger, some saying it's worse than breathing second hand smoke. However, my dad had a gas stove and was the cook in our family and lived to 94yo but always ate healthy wasn't into take-out foods and ate a clove of garlic every day, lol.

My understanding of the term 'dissociation':

Dissociation, when used in a psychiatric/medical context, usually refers to the fracturing of a person's identity or personality. There can be multiple causes of dissociation, one of which is trauma. Something traumatic happens to a person which completely overwhelms their ability to cope with the incident. This triggers a survival response during which one or more portions of the persons core, or 'heart', becomes separated into pieces referred to as 'alters'. There can be many kinds of alters with completely different functions.

An alter normally lives in the spiritual realm while the core will live primarily in the material world. The alter can express itself in the material world either by permission of the core or by overpowering the core and manifesting on its own. Some alters hold the memory of the trauma that induced the split and their purpose is to shelter the core from the devastation it would otherwise experience. Usually, when asked about the trauma, the core will experience amnesia and be completely unable to recall the traumatic event. In doing so, the core is able to 'survive' and continue on.

To understand DID I must have a practical, working knowledge of the spiritual realm. I'm afraid I understand so little about the spiritual realm. Jesus referred to this when he said,
“If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?” John 3:12

The core is aware of the alter and will often speak of 'hearing voices'. Because most psychiatrists deny the existence of anything 'spiritual', their response is usually to tell the person the voices they are hearing are 'all in their head'. The tools of their trade are designed to investigate the material world, not the spiritual.

We who are followers of Jesus Christ understand that there is a very real spiritual world. The core is hearing voices from the spiritual realm, not from their 'head'. Unfortunately, we usually think of the spiritual world it as being a way off up 'yonder somewhere. Jesus tells us clearly that the spiritual world in all around us when he says in Luke 17:20-21:
“When asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs. Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

I do know that the spiritual realm is home to both good and evil spirits. While neither the core nor the alters are demonic in nature, they can, just as we can, allow evil to enter them and influence certain behaviors. I refer to Matthew 12:43-45.

Your honesty is refreshing, yet it underscores the inability of both mainstream evangelical Christianity and the medical profession to deal successfully with DID.

To start with, the vast majority of "churches" do not practice deliverance. Thus, it is guaranteed that devils (aka demons) have strongholds in those organizations.

DID issues compound a deliverance. Usually it is through first dealing with deliverance that one begins to learn the spiritual dynamic of DID. Without understanding the basics of deliverance, it is virtually impossible to proceed to resolve DID issues. I highly recommend that you begin exercising your authority in Christ in the realm of a ministry of deliverance before attempting to tackle DID.

The core is aware of the alter and will often speak of 'hearing voices'. Because most psychiatrists deny the existence of anything 'spiritual', their response is usually to tell the person the voices they are hearing are 'all in their head'. The tools of their trade are designed to investigate the material world, not the spiritual.

It is not cut-and-dried; there are variations. But yes, the psychiatrist is bound by his trade and necessarily discounts anything spiritual, thus he is powerless to deal with the demonic.

I do know that the spiritual realm is home to both good and evil spirits.

So is the human body. Thus the need for deliverance.

Absolutely spiritual! And a spiritual foothold is what demons need to enter it's host, a legal right you could say as the host acting in ignorance of God's will, such as "rewarding evil for evil"!

Someone experiencing a broken heart is not a unity; is not 1 person. Typically, they have managed to survive traumatic events by splitting or breaking off a portion of themselves; a portion of their heart; a portion of their identity, that will endure the abuse while enabling the person to survive. I think that God, who knows all, provided this mechanism for the survival of His children who endure horrific abuse. My conclusion is that Jesus Christ is deeply interested in 'binding up the broken hearted', restoring His lost sheep to Unity, to a single identity.

This is an interesting thought . . . is "broken hearted" merely a modern day idiom that we are erroneously applying to the ancient text? I going to give some thought to this!

Thank you, WW, for your comment. I have been successfully practicing deliverance ministry for a good number of years and agree with you that it is an invaluable weapon against evil. I think I was trying to say that many well meaning Christians assume that the voices a person is hearing are automatically demonic and in doing so they alienate the person.

Clearly our Lord Jesus Christ is validating the truth that our heart (thoughts/feelings/mind) is capable of being fragmented (crushed/broken/shattered).

A dissociated mind is not a broken mind, it is a compartmentalized mind.

These verses are written to the Jews who were sorrowful because of exile and oppression.

Solution: Do not allow unbelievers to attend.

"Well meaning" solves nothing. I never allow any nonbelievers with me during a session. Even a believer, who has unconfessed sin, is not welcome during a deliverance because transference of spirits is likely. There are many "well meaning Christians" out there who would assist a deliverance session but have ultimately caused it to fail because a demon jumped from the would-be deliveree to the assistant.

That said, it is not uncommon to hear the voice of a demon during a session. A demon, assigned to an alter, can take control of the body's functions such as speech. Those entities, having been given authority to maintain a presence in that person, naturally manifest when confronted with the Holy Spirit. This is an additional consideration that must be addressed if we wish to bring the DID person through deliverance e.g. SRA/ritual abuse strongholds must be addressed and removed.

I guess I haven't thought about this too much because it seemed to evil to me. But I did appreciate your breakdown. My initial thinking was that the alters were all somehow demonic or separate from the actual core/spirit. Is this something you have or think you have ruled out?

I do think the voices schizophrenics hear are demonic, largely because of what the voices say.
