Dan,
After all these years,,,,I'm sure you know that I consider this to be a rather silly question.

We are to obey God the best we can.
And God will not be mocked.
It's not a silly question for those who are trusting in their obedience/works for salvation. How much is enough?

I think the other poster means that our problem is a spiritual one.
I'd have to agree.

When Adam fell,,,,he gave in to a spiritual condition.
Before he was SPIRITUALLY alive...
after, he became SPIRITUALLY dead.

He didn't die physically, at least not right away.

Anyway, this is what I believe to be correct...
not sure, of course, what the other member believes.

sorry for cutting in...

Yeah, it is a spiritual problem all right. But it isnt our spirit directly. WHen we were born again the Lord gave us a new spirit, and I'm pretty sure that that is what He see when He looks at us, our spirit and our heart.

Or maybe God made humans unable to live without Him in the long run. Our species would die out without God. Can't have those pesky humans getting loose in the universe!

I agree. We are a new creation, the old man is dead. While we don't always see that, God always does. We're His children, not our old fleshy being.

Much love!

Agreed.

I like to say it like this:

our body and our soul = a man

our body and soul and spirit = a saved man

Yes. God sees His Son in us.

John 14:23
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will love him,

Not really.

YOU asked ME...not any other Christian...
If I obey THE LAW by giving 3 examples OF THE LAW.

I replied by stating that I AM NOT UNDER THE LAW...
so why would I obey THE LAW?

If YOU follow the Law,,,,you won't get any grief from me...it's your right to follow God the way that you believe to be correct.
I don't follow The Law...I'm under the grace of the New Covenant.
Wow... your capacity to miss the point is amazing. Clearly you have not grasped it yet.

But,,,,the NC does not negate obedience to God.
Really?

Either you obey God's commands in the Law or the NC does "negate obedience to God" in some way.

What the legalists don't understand is how the new covenant changes the way we relate to the Law. I think you understand it, but you're temporarily knotted up trying to argue with me. You don't need to. Instead, just try to understand the point I was making.

So, how much obedience does it take? Obedience which "follows" belief in/faith in Jesus Christ for salvation is works.

That's like asking a new recruit in the Military and the answer seems to be...
You said the prayer got Baptized and then you show up for training. What's your plan? Do you, a new recruit aspire to achieve Lt. Col? Or will your time in service be coasting and work in the moto pool for 4 years and get ot a Corporal? Salvation is free, but, build up your treasures in Heaven is not!

To whom much is given, much will be required (Luke 12:48) So the price goes up if you have big aspirations! I drew closer to the Lord. and He asked me to do something that I didnt want to do! He'll do it to you too, guaranteed
If you want to be a Lt Col., in God's army Obedience is crucially important. There aint no coasting. You gotta be sharper, arrive earlier, stay later and complain the least to make Lt. Col. Luke warm Christians that work in the moto pool make mistakes and no one is perfect so no sweat there.

I don't want to be a Lt. Col. in God's army !! I'll be happy to just not be called the least in heaven! And I dont want to be the plumber again, that's a nasty job!.

I'm sure nobody special and can't really do anything and God knows it. He said, I don't Call the equipped, I Equip the Called, so it is ok and it does take some courage and faith to depend on the Lord more than world systems.

People should ask themselves if they are able to hear the voice of the Lord? If you can you know. If you can't that doesn't happen like a spontaneous miracle. it takes days or weeks to practice it listening to God, If some disaster happened or shtf and you can't hear the voice of the Lord?!!!!! That could be dangerous.

Learning to hear God still small voice is like anything else, lol It's simple but hard to learn. Takes faith too. Time is short.

Matthew 20:1 - “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 4 and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. 5 Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’ 7 They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’ 8 “So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’ 9 And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius. 10 But when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received each a denarius. 11 And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, 12 saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ 13 But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. 15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ 16 So the last will be first, and the first last. For many are called, but few chosen.”

That is a sampling of 7 different style/weights of cast lead 44 Magnum caliber boolits that I have the moulds for. I have both of the 33 Keith bullets a 245gr and the 300gr gc version, Lymans old 180gr full Wadcutter! (A great Boolit!) and some misc ones from Grandpas room that I wound up with. My 44 has never fired a factory round (pretty sure?) Who needs expensive jacket bullets when wheel weights work fine?

Remember the big ammo shortage a couple years ago?
I don't, Lol!

They all worked.

The parable is to teach us that we should mind our own business and not worry about what others have or don't have...
what God gives to them or does NOT give to them...what SEEMS fair or does not seem fair.

All genuine believers are fruitful, yet not all are equally fruitful. (Matthew 13:23) Those who produce no fruit at all are not converted. The point of the parable is that the kingdom of heaven does not run on a merit-based system. It runs on God's grace toward those who come to Him through Jesus Christ, no matter when they come or how long and hard they worked. Those who came to the Master earlier and worked longer and harder are not being cheated. They are obtaining exactly what was promised.

Now you're telling me that we're not required to obey God because we're in the NC?

Please clarify what I've misunderstood.
Here is your original question that started this discussion:

Toknow said:
And why is it necessary to debate whether or not we need to obey God
I responded with this:

"That’s either silly or ignorant.

Do you stone adulterers? Do you attend the temple three times each year? Do you summon a priest when your shower grout gets mouldy? All those are God’s commands. Are you supposed to obey God or not?"

My point is this: It is "necessary to debate whether or not we need to obey God" because some "Christians" believe that we are under the Mosaic Law. We need to debate to persuade such people that we are not. I asked you about three points of the Mosaic law because I am certain you don't obey them.

We need to show which parts of the Bible we need to obey. Some poor people are confused on this matter. You understand that we aren't under the Law (that's good!).

People who argue that Christians must obey the Law are deceived; they don't understand that we are under a fundamentally different covenant. They ignore the uncomfortable bits in the Law (like stoning adulterers) or the impossible bits (like attending the temple thrice each year) or the bits that just make no sense today (like having a priest inspect the mould in your shower grout). The latter two are impossible (no temple, no Levitical priesthood).

It is necessary to debate to expose these errors and respond with truth. :)

All genuine believers are fruitful, yet not all are equally fruitful. (Matthew 13:23)
How could all be equally fruitful?
I've never been inside of a prison?
Some could do more.
Some could do less.
Some do very little.

Those who produce no fruit at all are not converted.

But that is NOT what Jesus said.
HE said that those IN HIM that do not bear fruit will be cut off.

IN HIM means they were saved.

Agreed. it could also mean that.
God gives to us what He promises....
We are not to look to what He gives others..but only what He promised to us.
Even if it seems that others get more from God.

Both views are legitimate.
FINALLY!
