Anyone who would like to discuss 'multiple personality disorder' or 'dissociative identity disorder' please respond to this post. I need to learn as much as I can about the condition because I believe Our Lord identified that condition when He spoke to the folks in His hometown synagogue saying;
(Isaiah 61:1) "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD anointed me To bring good news to the humble; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners;

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. My ex-wife had 19 of them. None were fun, unfortunately. ... Welcome to CC.

Thanks, NightTwister. Can you share some of your experiences and what you learned from them?

I highly doubt she was diagnosed with DID...but you never know.

How is that scripture connected to DID? What do you base it on?

HeIsHere asked, "How is that scripture connected to DID? What do you base it on?"

My response is a work in progress. I'm seeking to learn more: (Proverbs 27:17) As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
As I see it, the spiritual world is usually not part of the average scientist's world view. MPD/DID are scientific terms used to describe a phenomenon observed by the medical community. Science, as commonly practiced, describes material interactions and does not have the tool set to describe anything of a spiritual nature. Thus, 'diagnosing' someone with 'MPD/DID' is simply identifying a particular human affliction in materialistic terms.

So, what is 'the heart' according to Scripture? You can search and you will find many definitions. It seems to me that we must first understand what the 'heart' is before we can consider what a 'broken heart is'. Jeremiah gives us a clue when he says:

(Jeremiah 17:10) “I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, to give to each person according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

Jehovah says He searches the 'heart and tests the mind'. To me that indicates that either the mind is found in the heart or it is the heart. In common usage, the term 'a broken heart' usually has the connotation of a deeply disappointing event that hurts someone or 'breaks their heart'. It is usually not considered a life threatening event but rather something they will 'get over'. Thus we have the saying, "Time heals a broken heart." When Jesus Christ stated that he came to 'heal the broken hearted', this was not the human condition he was referring to. He had in mind a much more serious and potentially deadly condition which no amount of time could ever heal.

When Jehovah would discover the true essence of person, He searches the heart to test the mind. Thus, according to Jeremiah, our heart, however you care to speculate about what it is, contains our true identity. If a person has a broken heart, that can only mean that their identity is fractured; e.g. they have multiple identities. What does that mean?

Someone experiencing a broken heart is not a unity; is not 1 person. Typically, they have managed to survive traumatic events by splitting or breaking off a portion of themselves; a portion of their heart; a portion of their identity, that will endure the abuse while enabling the person to survive. I think that God, who knows all, provided this mechanism for the survival of His children who endure horrific abuse. My conclusion is that Jesus Christ is deeply interested in 'binding up the broken hearted', restoring His lost sheep to Unity, to a single identity.

(Isaiah 61:1) "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD anointed me To bring good news to the humble; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners;

Mark 5:1-13
New International Version

5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. 2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

Matthew 10:16-20
New International Version

16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. 17 Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. 18 On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. 19 But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, 20 for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

DID is induced/response to severe trauma experienced over time.

Am I understanding this to mean you think DID is a spiritual condition?

The short answer is 'yes/probably'.

I'm trying to understand the nature of DID. My world view is rooted in the words and the revelation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, my studies so far lead me to believe that DID is possibly a reference to a mechanism that our Father has built into us to allow us to survive horrific experiences.

Many well meaning people think that the behavior associated with DID indicates demon possession. That misguided response has prevented people who are experiencing DID from receiving the help only an enlightened body of Christ can provide. That is a tragedy.

Thanks, NightTwister. Can you share some of your experiences and what you learned from them?
In my case, my ex-wife used to to justify her bad actions. She was always very critical of others, but could never take any criticism at all. She at times took medication, but as soon as "things were better" she would stop, thinking she didn't need it anymore. As much as I tried to get her to go into a residential care center for her condition, she would never go. When it turned into physical abuse against the children I had to leave.

Interesting, did you know that it was actually scientists (so called) who conducted so called "experiments" on unwilling subjects to see how they could cause the mind to disassociate.

This is well documented, MIT, McGill.

Acts 2
New International Version

2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. 25 David said about him:
“‘I saw the Lord always before me.
Because he is at my right hand,
I will not be shaken.
26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest in hope,
27 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
you will not let your holy one see decay.
28 You have made known to me the paths of life;
you will fill me with joy in your presence.’
29 “Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. 31 Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,
“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
35 until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”’
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.”
37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Deuteronomy 28:15-68
15 However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you:

16 You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country.

17 Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed.

18 The fruit of your womb will be cursed, and the crops of your land, and the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.

19 You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out.

20 The Lord will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him. 21 The Lord will plague you with diseases until he has destroyed you from the land you are entering to possess. 22 The Lord will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, with blight and mildew, which will plague you until you perish. 23 The sky over your head will be bronze, the ground beneath you iron. 24 The Lord will turn the rain of your country into dust and powder; it will come down from the skies until you are destroyed.

25 The Lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will come at them from one direction but flee from them in seven, and you will become a thing of horror to all the kingdoms on earth. 26 Your carcasses will be food for all the birds and the wild animals, and there will be no one to frighten them away. 27 The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors, festering sores and the itch, from which you cannot be cured. 28 The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind. 29 At midday you will grope about like a blind person in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you.

30 You will be pledged to be married to a woman, but another will take her and rape her. You will build a house, but you will not live in it. You will plant a vineyard, but you will not even begin to enjoy its fruit. 31 Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will eat none of it. Your donkey will be forcibly taken from you and will not be returned. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and no one will rescue them. 32 Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, and you will wear out your eyes watching for them day after day, powerless to lift a hand. 33 A people that you do not know will eat what your land and labor produce, and you will have nothing but cruel oppression all your days. 34 The sights you see will drive you mad. 35 The Lord will afflict your knees and legs with painful boils that cannot be cured, spreading from the soles of your feet to the top of your head.

36 The Lord will drive you and the king you set over you to a nation unknown to you or your ancestors. There you will worship other gods, gods of wood and stone. 37 You will become a thing of horror, a byword and an object of ridicule among all the peoples where the Lord will drive you.

38 You will sow much seed in the field but you will harvest little, because locusts will devour it. 39 You will plant vineyards and cultivate them but you will not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them. 40 You will have olive trees throughout your country but you will not use the oil, because the olives will drop off. 41 You will have sons and daughters but you will not keep them, because they will go into captivity. 42 Swarms of locusts will take over all your trees and the crops of your land.

43 The foreigners who reside among you will rise above you higher and higher, but you will sink lower and lower. 44 They will lend to you, but you will not lend to them. They will be the head, but you will be the tail.

45 All these curses will come on you. They will pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the Lord your God and observe the commands and decrees he gave you. 46 They will be a sign and a wonder to you and your descendants forever. 47 Because you did not serve the Lord your God joyfully and gladly in the time of prosperity, 48 therefore in hunger and thirst, in nakedness and dire poverty, you will serve the enemies the Lord sends against you. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you.

49 The Lord will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50 a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young. 51 They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine or olive oil, nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined. 52 They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the Lord your God is giving you.

53 Because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you. 54 Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, 55 and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities. 56 The most gentle and sensitive woman among you—so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot—will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter 57 the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For in her dire need she intends to eat them secretly because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of your cities.

58 If you do not carefully follow all the words of this law, which are written in this book, and do not revere this glorious and awesome name—the Lord your God— 59 the Lord will send fearful plagues on you and your descendants, harsh and prolonged disasters, and severe and lingering illnesses. 60 He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded, and they will cling to you. 61 The Lord will also bring on you every kind of sickness and disaster not recorded in this Book of the Law, until you are destroyed. 62 You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left but few in number, because you did not obey the Lord your God. 63 Just as it pleased the Lord to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess.

64 Then the Lord will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. 65 Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. 66 You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. 67 In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening!” and in the evening, “If only it were morning!”—because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights that your eyes will see. 68 The Lord will send you back in ships to Egypt on a journey I said you should never make again. There you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.

Anyone who would like to discuss 'multiple personality disorder' or 'dissociative identity disorder' please respond to this post. I need to learn as much as I can about the condition because I believe Our Lord identified that condition when He spoke to the folks in His hometown synagogue...
Following is a quasi-excerpt from "DID and Deliverance for Dummies."

When one is tortured severely, the personality splits, as a coping mechanism, into many pieces, like a mirror shattering on the floor. It's known as "splitting the core." The programmer then "picks up the pieces," cataloging each of them for future development and assignments. The pieces, called alters, are kept isolated from each other via satanic gatekeepers (devils aka demons) to prevent re-integration of the mind and a breakdown of the programming. A specific alter can be called up, via a variety of recall mechanisms, to take over the body and carry out its pre-programmed task.

Am I understanding this to mean you think DID is a spiritual condition?
I am involved in a ministry of deliverance. I have never encountered a multiple whose condition was not spiritually-based.

I hope this gets you started on your learning journey into exposing a work of darkness.

Yes, devils (aka demons) are involved. And no, it seldom indicates possession (a misunderstood term).

Many Caesarian-trained "professionals" have tried to make sense of the flood of people coming into their practices suffering with this condition. Here is the famous "Greenbaum Speech," which you may find of interest.

Anyone who would like to discuss 'multiple personality disorder' or 'dissociative identity disorder' please respond to this post. I need to learn as much as I can about the condition because I believe Our Lord identified that condition when He spoke to the folks in His hometown synagogue saying;
(Isaiah 61:1) "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD anointed me To bring good news to the humble; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim release to captives And freedom to prisoners;
Demons are real and very often the cause of psychological problems. We've seen transformations when people have been delivered from demons and evil spirits. Usually they hide behind the individual's temperament. So a natural introvert will become increasingly isolated and depressed. The extrovert will become a pain. The type A will become even more controlling and aggressive. And so on.

I've watched evil spirits take over people. Hypnosis is exactly that. The devil realises that he is running out of time. People give Satan the opportunity to attack them by rejecting God's ways and indulging the sins of the flesh. People getting into the occult invariable take in evil spirits. Demonic horror movies are another means that Satan uses.

We do need discernment. Satan likes to create a smokescreen. He will tell the sufferer that what is a work of the flesh is evil spirits, and tell some bound by evil spirits that it is the work of the flesh. So the sufferer ends up trying deal with the wrong cause and that will fail.

Unbelievers know nothing of either, so they turn to the world for help. The world can offer a little, but drugs only treat the symptoms.

We are counseling someone who has been through hell since her husband passed away. She has been under psychiatric care for over a year. We knew her from several years ago. She contacted us when it was obvious that the care she received only went so far. We've ministered deliverance, but that is far from all a sufferer needs. It is the truth that sets us free. She is now well on the way to complete recovery. Withdrawing from the drugs is proving hard for her, but the grace of God is sufficient.

Many in the church avoid deliverance ministry. I was a member of a church that routinely cast out demons. Then they moved to a fancy building and became very much middle class. Deliverance ceased to be part of the ministry. It's not dignified. Tragic.
