Water or Spirit?

People have seen a great light yet they still insist to live in the shadows.:(

Hebrews 10:1
For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.

We have the perfect Redeemer but He still is not enough for some people. So sad.

The water of the Word washes us!

The New Testament is clear. Water baptism is a part of salvation. Those that say otherwise are not accepting the whole counsel of God and are actually cherry pickers.

Mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 2:37.38
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

Colossians 2:11-13
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

I'm not saying one does not first repent, believe, and confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This is of course the first thing one does for initial salvation. Without doing this, one can get dunked in the water all they want and that does not make them saved. After initial salvation, the Lord instructs us to be baptized which is a public demonstration and public acknowledgement before others that we are dead with Him and are raised up together unto new life.... it is making a covenant with the Lord when we are baptized, making a commitment, making a promise to turn from our old life unto living for Him.

This process is the starting point for us to start walking in newness of life, having a clean conscience toward God which is what actually saves us. Being dunked in water itself is not the moment one becomes born again as we should already be born again before getting baptized. As mentioned in 1 Peter 3:21, having a clean conscience toward God having accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, having confessed out sins before the Lord is what saves us. Now... as we see the thief on the Cross next to Jesus acknowledge the Lord as His Savior (Luke 23:39-43)... and Jesus told this man that he was going to paradise, if one finds themselves in a situation where it's not possible to get water baptized, then they will still be saved if they have truly been born again.

Apart from this, we are required to be baptized because God's tells us to be water baptized in His Word. Those having opportunity to be baptized and choose to disobey God's Word are disobeying the Gospel and the wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience (knowingly disobeying the Lord is an evil desire, see Colossians 3:5,6).

Through the faith of the operation of God (Colossians 2:12) through water baptism are we raised up in newness of life (Romans 6:4) to have a clean conscience towards the Lord to walk with Him and we will be saved IF we endure until the end of our life abiding IN Christ.

Paul baptized a few folks (noted in 1 Corinthians 1:14-16) and did not teach water baptism was to be discontinued or ignored. Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:3-6)

The Lord teaches water baptism thru the Apostle Peter: Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.” While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God.

Then Peter answered, “Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?” And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days. (Acts 10:43-48) Some want to disobey the Lord claiming water baptism is not required so we'll see where these folks end up in eternity for ignoring the teachings of Jesus on this topic.

In conclusion, if one has opportunity to be baptized and chooses to ignore and disobey Mark 16:16, Acts 2:37.38, 1 Peter 3:21, Colossians 2:11-13, and Romans 6:4...then the after life is not going to be as they think.

Do all speak in tongues? No!
If you were a baby Christian?
I would say nothing.
But you?
That was dumb.
As usual.

Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?

I have explained how Peter was slow to catch onto the new life in Christ.
In the beginning he was till clinging to the old ways of what he knew before.

“As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.
Then I remembered (Peter remembered then, not before, and was water baptizing the old way)
what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
So if God gave them the same gift he gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to
think that I could stand in God’s way?” Acts 11:15-17
THINK! (please!)

We are to be baptized in both water and in the Holy Spirit

Why do you want what was a baptism of preparation along side the baptism of a new way of living?

Luke 3:16
John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Peter eventually recognised there was only baptism.

Acts 11:16
Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

Paul taught there is only one baptism.

Ephesians 4:5
one Lord, one faith, one baptism;

The scriptures speak of John's baptism as not being enough for the new life and that is was a baptism for Israel.

Acts 18:25
This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things of the Lord, though he knew only the baptism of John.

Acts 13:24
after John had first preached, before His coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

When oh when will you lift up your eyes and look through Divine viewpoint and see the big picture of what was happening?

Stop watering down the most glorious baptism. (pun intended) :)

So...Peter, speaking by the Holy Spirit, spoke incorrectly?

Peter when speaking by the Spirit said the right words.....
But, he was wrong in its application.

Kind of like what happened to the prophet Balaam who intended to curse
Israel, but the Spirit would have him say something else.

The Spirit meant for Peter to say something else?

Peter had works-oriented tendencies until corrected by Paul in Acts 15, which Paul recounted in Gal. 2:1-5,
and during a visit by Peter to Antioch, when Paul again reproved him for fearing the circumcision group and
failing to teach justification by faith in Christ rather than by observing the law (Gal. 2:11-21).
Evidence that Peter amended his mistakes is found in 1Pet. 1:3-9 & 18-23, where he says we are saved by faith
in Christ and the Word of God without mentioning baptism until 1Pet. 3:21, where he says water symbolizes baptism
that saves--the death and resurrection of Jesus (cf. Luke 12:50, Col. 2:12-14).

WOW, Peter was corrected by Paul?

They may have had a little friction going on as none of us are perfect but Paul never corrected Peter on how to be saved!

Big discusion of circumcision and non-circumcision but nothing more.

You should read Acts 15 again.

The Spirit meant for Peter to say something else?

No.... Peter did not understand his own words.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. "
Acts 2:38

That baptism was supposed to be like this one.

They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea." 1 Corinthians 10:2

They were being baptized into Jesus! Not water!

In our case?

The real you and me are IN the body of Jesus!
Just like the woman was in Adam's body before she was to be manifested in time and space!
For we are the Bride of Christ!

We are going to be bone of His bones, and glorious flesh, of his Glorious Resurrection Body!!!!!!!

And He raised us up together with Him, and seated us
with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus." Eph 2:6
We are now IN Him, just as Eve was in Adam before the Lord put Adam into the deep sleep!

...be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ."

To that culture, the term "name" also could refer to the person himself!
Google this! the term "name" also could refer to the person himself!

Peter said the right words.
He just did not understand yet what they actually meant!
It was for us to discover by the grace of God, in God's timing.

You are the one who needs correction right now.
Stop playing games as to avoid corrections that are needed!

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but whoever hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 12:1
With that in mind!
Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you. Proverbs 9:8
The stupid are stupid because they do it to themselves.

.... Whoever hates correction is stupid.

There is definitely some very good things here about baptism and what it means to be in Christ. What I'm trying to figure out is whether you believe baptism should be water baptism? And if not, then did Phillip speak inaccurately to the eunuch?
