Greetings to any reader. I’m missing the social chat. I’m married and at 67 I still miss work and seeing my friends there. If you want to say hi or just chat about anything let me know. I like to fish but here in Nevada not much of that around. I used to play golf but my health isn’t so good. I’m a proud Christian but not a Bible expert. Am I the only one who get’s lost in all the citations? I feel embarrassed and hope to learn more by being here and talking with others. Hope your day is bright and good. Let’s chat if your not busy.

Welcome to the Forum John.
I have a friend in Vegas....lovely neighborhood.
She's more like a sister but we don't get to see each other much anymore.

If you go to the bible study section, you could read along and learn a lot...if you're interested.

otherwise, there's plenty of other places to go but you do have to post somewhere to get replies.

Hope you enjoy your stay here!

I'm a retired brick Mason, 67, I think I was hit by all eighteen wheels.
Welcome, don't be afraid to ask questions.

Hi @John_n_Vegas
Try checking out the Topics in Miscellaneous or, better yet, the Singles Forum (no one picking anyone up there and everyone acts like they are already old and married ). But seriously, some of us married folk crash their forum when the BDF drains us of all our energy and we need to recharge with some lighthearted chit chat.

Hi John_n_Vegas glad you have joined us welcome to CC! In the Single's Forum watch for @seoulsearch's posts, she has a CC open chat room going on certain days, you could join in and meet people there. Also, there's a chatroom listed above fyi. God bless you and yours🙏✨

Welcome @John_n_Vegas!

I hope you enjoy your time here. Starting and participating in threads is a great way to start getting to know people. As @Mem kindly mentioned, some of us from the Singles forum often put up conversational-type threads in Singles, Family, and sometimes Miscellaneous. We're on a mission to try to help people feel less lonely.

And thanks to @faithlife for the shoutout -- we've tried to set up a live chat every other Friday at around 5PM central USA time. The next one looks to be not this Friday but the next, February 13. If it's official, I'll post a thread in Singles a day or two ahead announcing the chat day and time. I'll also post the link to the live chat -- you'll just have to login the same as you do for the forums here, then choose a room to enter (we'll tell you in the announcement which room to look for.)

My cohost and partner-in-crime, @Lynx, usually gets there about that time and I arrive maybe an hour later due to time differences. We intend for it to have a coffee-house style vibe -- just come in and talk about your day, hobbies, etc. We kind of go wherever the group conversation takes us. And we usually chat for a couple of hours, depending on how many people show up and how to conversations go.

We hope to see you there! :)

Thanks for the good advice but I’m not single so I wouldn’t want to be a bother to those looking for a mate. I’m just lonely and bored, my wife works nights and is gone a lot.

Well it seems a couple folks said to try that… I might have to look into it. Bored and lonely makes me want to try anything. So thanks

Welcome John, I understand missing your friends at work as I mis several also, but in my case, I retired, but most others were scattering about that time due to changes in attitude by upper management. As for all the citations I have studied enough that I found the issues rapidly resolved by making a couple, rather simple, assumptions, and other biblical scholars say either that I make more sense than anyone else they have heard of, or that I am totally trashing tradition and thus must be wrong. Heavyweight scholars fall on both sides.

No worries!

At least 1/3 of the people who show up for the live chat are married, and later in the evening, it was about half and half.

It's just a friends group talking about life.

Just thought I'd mention this in case you change your mind, but no problem if not!

curious what hobbies do you fill your free time with../seems like a lot of free time .

I've been retired for 13 years due to back and neck issues from masonry work. I've always had a heart for helping others, so i first started 7 halfway houses for addicts and alcoholics coming out of the salvation army. They would stay there for 6 months, get out and have nowhere to go. So my wife and I rented out our home and ran the seven halfway houses and fed 200 every week for about 5 years. That was a 24-7 job.

Physical reasons would also hinder that work. So we needed to heal a bit and sold the house and bought a truck and fifth wheel. We did the rving thing for 2 years. It was then our kids started to have babies, my wife said we're done and I became a baby sitter for the next 5 years until we could nolonger do that.

The one thing I always wanted to do when I was working was to just spend all day in Gods word. So for the last four years I've been blessed and able to do that 2 or 3 hours a day. I also take care of my disabled wife, that's most of my ministry now.

These are the things I do in between surrendering my life to Him and living a life inspired by such surrender. My motto is doing nothing is not an option.

Isaiah 2:4
New International Version

4 He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.

Matthew 9:37-38
New International Version

37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Mark 4:20
New International Version

20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
