A baker was at a meeting and was asked to open in prayer. He started out, "Lord, I don't like flour. It's dry and feels awful in my mouth. I'm not fond of vanilla either. I don't like the taste of butter or sugar either. Raw egg? No thanks. But we mix all that together, cook it and we end up with really nice biscuits. Thank you for mixing up the experiences we do not enjoy and making something blessed out of them."

We may not find the individual experiences of our lives enjoyable at all. We rarely see what God is doing from them. However, it is clear from God's word that He has a plan, a "recipe" if you like, to bless us. Complaining hinders God's working in our lives. Praising God in hard times lightens the burden so that it is easier to bear. Let's consider the purpose of our trials and see that it is for our good. (James 1:2-4)
