Looks like Xi Jinping won the power struggle we discussed last year.
On the contrary the purge of all of Xi's allies could be a way of telling Xi he is not in power.

If Xi was not behind the purge he can't tell anyone because then he looks impotent. It is better to be seen as ruthless than impotent.

So this could look like Xi is in charge or it could be that some rogue faction is in charge.

Smacks too much of Mao's Cultural Revolution in my opinion. Mao also had become sidelined by his court and retreated and feigned illness and infirmity, then he struck with a vengeance and consolidated his power for life. Xi Jinping it seems will try to do the same. Whether he is successful or not we will see, but so far I think it is genuine the power of the CCP is on his side. The rumors say he has purged Zhang Youxia, this is the key detail, which if it proves true, indicates that Xi Jinping has won the power struggle, within the CCP, at least in the immediate time (from now to the end of his official term).
