8And when He [the Holy Spirit] comes, He will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9in regard to sin, because they do not believe in Me;…
(John 16:8)
The Holy Spirit brings conviction for sin. The word conviction is elegchó (ἐλέγχω) which means: To convict, to reprove, to expose, to refute, to correct or convince. Properly, it means to convince with solid, compelling evidence, especially to expose (prove wrong, connect).

Thayer's Lexicon adds:
1. to convict, refute, confute, generally with a suggestion of the shame of the person convicted
2. to find fault with, correct;
Strong’s Greek 1651 describes a Spirit-energized act of bringing wrong into the open so that it can be acknowledged and forsaken. Whether translated “convict,” “expose,” “reprove,” or “rebuke,” the term always carries the aim of restoring people to God’s design rather than merely shaming them. It is truth spoken with moral authority, intended to move the conscience toward repentance and obedient faith.

The Early church fathers (e.g., Tertullian, Chrysostom) viewed public reproof as an act of love, integral to bringing people to repentance and church purity. The Reformers stressed the Word’s convicting power, seeing it as the engine of revival. Evangelical awakenings have historically been marked by strong preaching that lays bare sin, leading multitudes to confession and renewed obedience.

Scrpiture please, how do you know you have the Holy Ghost to convicte you?

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
I know because the Holy Spirit bears witness to the truth of the scripture which He uses when appealing to our minds and consciousness. I know because it is what Jesus said would happen. The Holy Spirit influences even those who do not yet know Him which is why Jesus said "He will convict the WORLD of sin because they do not believe in me" The WORLD are those who do not believe whose minds have been blinded to the truths about who Christ is and what He has accomplished. I do not think demons would bear witness to the truth of the scripture about Jesus being the Savior, do you?

He only mentions flesh to tell Nicodemus that He isn't speaking about physical but spiritual. You can't escape that both water and Spirit are referring to being born again.

So now He does address natural birth.

Make your mind up, He doesn't, He Does.

Anyone else want to ride the seesaw?

Just can't say what it's for can you.

So are you a part of that church, don't look like it.

Has JESUS filled you???

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Or are you missing that two?

I just did.

Are you blind?

Luke 23:40-43

40 But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 And he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.

This may be the shortest yet most precise act of turning to God shown in scripture.
The thief admitted his guilt, knew who Christ was and believed in Him, and simply stated remember me when you come into your kingdom!

Doesn't get much simpler than that!

Was the thief ever water baptized? Scripture doesn't tell us. So, I believe that water baptism is a visible sign that you belong to Christ, not the cause. . . .

Takes all sorts to make the world go round as they say. ;)

Eventually they always show themselves up by saying something utterly ridiculous.
I can't even say "eventually"...........With Bible doctrine in the soul, they show up immediately.

But those who do not know the mind of Christ? They get suckered in.

Thanks for your diligence in His word.

No I'm not. That is you. The context of the passage is being born again. So, again, water and the Spirit are referring to being born again.
And if you don't want me to reply, simply don't start a discussion with me. I never begin a discussion with you, but I do sometimes reply when someone addresses me. Simple solution: don't direct your posts towards me. I have no desire to be in a discussion with you. Despite having some knowledge and understanding, you have no spiritual discernment or wisdom.

You keep acting like you are doing nothing wrong.

You just can't admit that water and Spirit are referring to being born again.

And you can't seem to understand that nothing physical generates the human spirit. Last time I looked water was physical.

The Holy Spirit does not need water to do His work.

So water must be symbolic. Now you're getting somewhere.

Disagreeing with you isn't doing anything wrong. I'm not the impugning everyone's character. That's you.

Gaslighting is your forte...

You are here to try to prevent real progress in better understanding God's Word.

So many people like talking and explaing GOD'S word to me, I like to let JESUS explain HIS word to you and to them.

Which is their opinion, I keep me and my opinion out of it since I'm not the one who died for us.

Yes, Satan will use any trick in the book to trick us.

Satan's plan is to keep us out of the water, if we get in the water keep JESUS name out of it.

Satan knows what happens in the water.

Why didn't you prove what you said was true by backing it up with HIS word?

"Verbally saying they repent merely acknowledges the internal change that has taken place"

I know, because it's not!

What did you think of Acts 2:4?

If JESUS has never filled you how do you know it's JESUS talking to you throught the Holy Ghost?

You don't think Satan knows HIS word and your weekness?

Peter explains what happens when we are filled,

Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

JESUS explains what happens when we are filled,

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

If JESUS hasn't filled you I ask you as Paul asked the Ephens in Acts 19 HOW WERE YOU BAPTIZED?

Acts 19,

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

I just did.

Are you blind?

Morning to you.

LOL, I agree you kind of did.

But you just can't admit that while building that church we have to be baptized in JESUS name.

I'm sorry if I seem rude in anyway, I ask questions to people comments to TRY to make them look at HIS word for evedence to back up what they say.

Questions you have not answered,

1. How do we get "regenerated we are dead in our sins"

2. Can you explain how spirit gives birth to spirit???

3. Who said this, where did it come from? Your personal John 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

4. Expline what are they and what is the difference, "Regeneration and baptism are two different things"

5. If you believe what is written why don't you believe being baptized in JESUS name is how we get rid of our sins?

Have you received the Holy Ghost since you have believed?

Acts 19
King James Version
19 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

There comes a point that we become stupid for continuing to try to reason with him.

Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time.
After that, have nothing to do with them. You may be sure that
such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.

Titus 3:10-11

Morning, think on this.

You think just faith gets you reborn and I shared scriture where you need to be baptized and receive the Holy Ghost to be reborn.

You have not shared any that says faith gets you reborn.

Since I do believe and have faith, which is the first step if JESUS came back today we would both be Heaven bound.

BUT, if the scripture I shared proving we have to be baptized in JESUS name to remove our sins and the need to be filled with HIS spirit is correct, who is Heaven bound?

Your thoughts?

I really just try to make people think, JESUS LOVES US ALL THE SAME.

Why debate with you?

JESUS says in John 3,
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

So your problem with just needing the spirit is not correct.

Has JESUS filled you like HE did HIS disciples in Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Peter says that is what happen when JESUS fills you, not me.

Acts 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

You claim to be sealed?

Has HE filled you so you could be sealed?

Your debate is with HIS WORD.

FYI, my thoughts sure could keep me from being saved, I like Paul have to repent daily.

I've covered this question several times. I wish churches would teach it. It would save me the bother and believers a lot of confusion.

The initial experience of being born again is instantaneous, done by God and is irrevocable. The believer receives eternal life. Eternal life is just that, eternal. This is called being saved.

There is another aspect of the Christian experience that is called salvation. And it leads to utter confusion because "salvation" is not referring to the initial, born again experience. James and Peter refer to this as the "salvation of the soul".

What does salvation mean in this context? It means "deliverance". The "salvation" of the spirit man means that the dead spirit is removed through the cross and replaced by God, based on the fact that Jesus rose from the dead. Those who are not born again are not saved, no matter how good their behaviour is.

The deliverance of the soul is something else. Those who are born again bring a lifetime of habits, attitudes, preconceived notions and lack of knowledge with them. Some attitudes change immediately. Some take time to be changed. Some preconceived ideas take time to change. For example, some people believe in evolution because that's what the world programs them to believe. It may take a while for the truth to sink in.

The soul primarily consists on mind, emotion and will. We need to be transformed by the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2). That is part of the salvation of the soul. We have a will that often baulks at God's will. We are used to getting our own way. We have desires that we see nothing wrong with. Yet God's ways are not ours (Isaiah 55: 8 & 9). God wants the best for us and we do not know what that is. We are called to walk in the Spirit. Being overly emotional is like a noise that drowns out the voice of God in our spirit man. We have to learn how to be quiet in the inner man.

The soul is neither evil nor good. It is the means by which we express our spirit man, at least, it should be. We have life in the soul, the same as Adam had. This is called "the natural man". We must learn to reject the natural man and live by the spirit.

Peter had to learn this lesson. One moment, he was hearing from God, receiving the revelation which Jesus built his church. Not long after, Peter was insisting that Jesus not go to the cross. Jesus rebuked him this time. Peter was hindering Jesus from doing God's will.

All Christians are a mixture to begin with, contrary to the falsehoods you will hear from some on this forum. James said that we stumble in many ways. (James 3:2) If we are diligent in study, in prayer and in fellowship, we will find that we grow in grace and the knowledge of the truth that sets us free.

Thank you, we all need to be humble as none of us will know it all.

Key thing and most important is being reborn.

Peter is the one with the keys and the first ones to be reborn was the ones who were responsible for putting JESUS on that cross.

Now that's what I call forgiving.

We all have the same opportunity today.

There is ONLY one way to get reborn and that is found in the book of Acts.

Ephesians 4:5

One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

Some of you here have "two" baptisms.
And, stay that way, because you are double minded.

.
There is only one baptism that saves and places us into the body of Christ and that is Spirit baptism, not water baptism.

Ephesians 4:5 - ..one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

1 Corinthians 12:13 - For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. *Also see John 4:10,14; 7:37-39 for the word drink(s) and see the connection with the Holy Spirit. :)

Also of note is the fact that the works-based gangs and religions out there that continue to vomit their theologies about salvation being something that must be retained from loss through personal effort and works, rooted in some very warped failures at rightly dividing the word of truth, they remain elements of confusion for those who are new in the faith or just plain ignorant and/or lazy toward the Bible they claim to uphold as the grounding of their beliefs.
