Jesus did not give his disciples the golden rule to follow. The Golden rule is for all society, nit just believers.
This is what Jesus told the Church...
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,
so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you
are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34-35
That command does not amount to the sunshine and roses you have been assuming it to always be.
For?
This is how Jesus needed to "love" Peter at one point:
Matthew 16:21-23
Jesus Predicts His Death...
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem
and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of
the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never
happen to you!” (Peter sounded so sweet?)
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me;
you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
You don't like that when the Holy Spirit works that way?
Carnal believers can be nasty.
Mature believers may cut to the bone when need be.
That is why Jesus needed to add the following to what He said after rebuking Peter.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves
and take up their cross and follow me."
Hurt feelings don't count anymore when we are being correctly rebuked.
For the church is to self police ourselves when need be!
If you are off about something?
You are to have it made known.
If it is a wrongly way to be wrong?
In some cases...
Rebuked like Jesus loved Peter in his rebuke.
