There are many stories that people can chose to believe that would make modern Israel seem better than that.
In the past there may have been more excuse for that, because people around the world only have had access to a limited amount of information.
These excuses are disappearing fast now, because there is much more exposure of the Middle East in this time.

I expect that there will be people who fall away from faith in Jesus when they see their eschatology not working out, but there are also those who know His voice.
Regardless of how bad their interpretations are they will not be deceived in the end.

There are some who doubt the role of Israel in God's plan and purpose. If that is so, perhaps you can explain this from the book of Revelation.

These things are obviously future. God is not done with Israel yet.

It is noteworthy that the tribe of Dan is not included in the 144,000. God rejected Dan because they allied themselves with the Philistines instead of conquering them as God had commanded. That compromise caused great trouble for Israel later on. We do well not to compromise with God's enemies.

Most of the time, when the scriptures mention Israel they are referencing Jacob, in whom God changed his name to be no more called Jacob, but to be called Israel. Jacob, as Israel, represents all of God's elect. The 144,000 refers to the remnant of spiritual Israel who have been revealed the knowledge of the doctrine of Christ, and the rest of spiritual Israel/Jacob was blinded from that knowledge because they turned away from God and began to worship idols (Zeph 3:11=13.) All of God's elect that Christ died for are from every kindred, and tongue, and people and nation (Rev 5:9=10). All of spiritual Israel/Jacob is not of the nation of Israel (Rom 9:6).
