But yes, it could have been anyone who was scourged, crucified around passover in Jerusalem, buried in
the same tombs as Jesus, had a crown of thorns on their head, and had the same blood type as Jesus.
When was Jesus' blood type ascertained, by whom, and how? .:oops::unsure:

The Sudarium of Oviedo is considered to be the authentic face covering of Jesus. The difference between the Sudarium and the Shroud is that the Shroud disappeared for about 500 years and then popped up in the historical record. However the Sudarium has a historical record that takes it all the way back to the crucifixion. Hence the blood type of the Sudarium is considered Jesus blood type.

Also, Ron Wyatt is said to have found the ark of the covenant in a cave beneath Golgotha and the blood from the crucifixion ran down a crack in the mountain after the earthquake and dripped onto the mercy seat of the ark. He had that tested as well.

There are many excellent used books available that can be had for less than 5 with free shipping. Some go back to the research that started in 1977 and others all the way up to recent with the latest evidence and findings. They cover so much information about more than any of us could think to ask. The photo sections are a big bonus.

Some researchers explain how the thought it had to be a fake or forgery before they started their analysis. Then they could not deny the authenticity of the Shroud through the features they discovered within the image and the cloth. The evidence is overwhelming and extremely well documented in the books.

One of their findings has to do with the Church fire that damaged the Shroud in 1532. The Shroud was folded in a silver container that partially melted and scorched the edges of the folds. Miraculously the image itself was left intact with the scorched cloth right against it in places. This is one of the greatest proofs that it cannot be a forgery or manmade because the image was not affected by the heat. If any organic material had been used to create the image, it would have been affected by the heat.

So although the fire that damaged the Shroud is sad, it also helps confirm it's authenticity through how it reacted to the extreme heat.

I would add this is a fascinating story, it is amazing all the various ways in which they investigated this shroud from a forensic viewpoint. It reminds me of the Lord's word:

John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

Additionally, they doused the Shroud with water to save it. This also affects carbon dating since the water during the fire can change carbon dating results. The books explain these many details. The people who still believe the Shroud to be a fake or some forgery that man is capable of, have not studied the evidence that is available and well documented by many researchers.

This is easy to refute. The Sudarium of Oviedo has the same blood type as the Shroud of Turin and it has an excellent history dating all the way back to the crucifixion.
That is too easy, the Sudarium of Oviedo, cloth has been dated to around 700 AD by radiocarbon dating. Years ago, I published a paper about Eucharistic Miracles on Catholic Answers Fourm. It showed by quoting primary souces that the blood types for them did not Match, some were A others O, not even the should had type B on it, none AB. Since then, Catholic Editors had been in the process of making them all type AB. History still shows beyond doubt that type AB is only about a thousand years old as what showed in my last post here.

As shown, the shroud has been contaminated with DNA from plants that can be found all over the world. Similarly, their analysis of human DNA showed haplogroups from people originating in Europe, south Asia, eastern Africa, and the Middle East. So, what does this mean?
It's hard to say. According to legend, the shroud moved around quite a bit, from Jerusalem to Turkey to France and to its final resting place in Turin, Italy. The DNA evidence confirms that many different people, from many different places, got their hands on or near the shroud.
What still remains unclear is the shroud's origin. The DNA evidence is consistent with more than one explanation: (1) The shroud really did originate in Israel and traveled extensively before making its way to Italy, or (2) The shroud was created in medieval Europe, but worshipers (and plants) from all over the world that made their way to Europe contaminated it. The authors cannot rule out either explanation. (Intriguingly, the authors suggested that the DNA evidence linked to people from India hints that the shroud may have been weaved there.)
For now, despite this rich new body of evidence, it seems the Shroud of Turin will remain shrouded in mystery.

They found that if one examined all the bloodstains on the shroud together, "you realize these cannot be real bloodstains from a person who was crucified and then put into a grave, but actually handmade by the artist that created the shroud,"study lead author Matteo Borrini, a forensic anthropologist at Liverpool John Moores University in England, told Live Science.

For instance, two short rivulets of the blood on the back of the left hand of the shroud are only consistent with a person standing with their arms held at a 45-degree angle. In contrast, the forearm bloodstains found on the shroud match a person standing with their arms held nearly vertically. A person couldn't be in these two positions at once.

The scientists did find that the bloodstains on the front of the chest did match those from a spear wound. However, the stains on the lower back — which supposedly came from the spear wound while the body was positioned on its back — were completely unrealistic, they said.

"If you look at the bloodstains as a whole, just as you would when working at a crime scene, you realize they contradict each other," Borrini said. "That points to the artificial origin of these stains."

All in all, this research shows "how we can apply forensic techniques not only to new forensic cases, but also to ancient mysteries," Borrini said.

The scientists detailed their findings online July 10 in the Journal of Forensic Sciences." https://www.livescience.com/63093-shroud-of-turin-is-fake-bloodstains.html

The gospel of John records that Jesus' body was wrapped in linen strips (othoniois); and there was a separate head covering. The synoptics use a different word (sindoni) meaning a linen cloth. All the other evidence is meaningless if John's account is the correct one and Jesus wasn't even wrapped in a shroud.
in the scriptures that it says the cloth that was wrapped around Jesus' head was separated from the rest of the linen as if Jesus has sat up and taken the head wrappings from off His head and laid next to Himself as He sat. And plus, the Israelites buried their dead with clothes on because they believe they'll resurrect and walk from out of their graves. And their burial clothing, which they only wore robes in those days, was white except for the wealthy that they wore colorful robes like purple which Nicodemus and Joseph clothed Jesus in the finest purple robe and lay Jesus in their own burial tomb. That was their way of asking for forgiveness because they knew Jesus was the Messiah, but they didn't proclaim to others that Jesus was sent by God.

The ancient Israelites wash themselves and their white clothing the day before every weekly Sabbath, that they wear them all day during the weekly Sabbath. Like when the time when they were in the wilderness with Moses. They were told to bath and wash their clothes before the Sabbath, because the next day they'll be meeting with God to give them the commands.

The shroud is definitely authentic. It is the most heavily studied artifact in world history. No other artifact has been so thoroughly studied.

When I taught Forensics we would spend a month on all the studies done on the shroud.

It is irresponsible for people to proclaim that the shroud is fake if they have not looked carefully at the studies done.

All of this is available for free, online. I don't want to go into it because you could easily write 500 pages on all the studies.

There are also extensive videos available on just some of the studies.

As one scientist said, "we would have confirmed that this was authentic years ago if the implication of that were not so great".

I would point out that it is also Biblical. We are told that the shroud was left behind as physical evidence of the resurrection. Now why would God do that if the shroud would then be lost?

What I find most interesting about the Shroud are the things that are contrary to the common understanding. The crown of thorns is one, and the strip of clothe that was sewn back onto the shroud is the other.

What I have not never been able to understand is why folks always show Christ with long hair like a women.

Paul taught it is shameful for a man to have long hair.

this shroud shows long hair ---

and they always make Christ look like a beautiful long haired hippy queer -- disgusting

Numbers 6
New International Version
The Nazirite
6 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of dedication to the Lord as a Nazirite, 3 they must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or other fermented drink. They must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins. 4 As long as they remain under their Nazirite vow, they must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, not even the seeds or skins.

5 “‘During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor may be used on their head. They must be holy until the period of their dedication to the Lord is over; they must let their hair grow long.

6 “‘Throughout the period of their dedication to the Lord, the Nazirite must not go near a dead body. 7 Even if their own father or mother or brother or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean on account of them, because the symbol of their dedication to God is on their head. 8 Throughout the period of their dedication, they are consecrated to the Lord.

9 “‘If someone dies suddenly in the Nazirite’s presence, thus defiling the hair that symbolizes their dedication, they must shave their head on the seventh day—the day of their cleansing. 10 Then on the eighth day they must bring two doves or two young pigeons to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 11 The priest is to offer one as a sin offering[a] and the other as a burnt offering to make atonement for the Nazirite because they sinned by being in the presence of the dead body. That same day they are to consecrate their head again. 12 They must rededicate themselves to the Lord for the same period of dedication and must bring a year-old male lamb as a guilt offering. The previous days do not count, because they became defiled during their period of dedication.

13 “‘Now this is the law of the Nazirite when the period of their dedication is over. They are to be brought to the entrance to the tent of meeting. 14 There they are to present their offerings to the Lord: a year-old male lamb without defect for a burnt offering, a year-old ewe lamb without defect for a sin offering, a ram without defect for a fellowship offering, 15 together with their grain offerings and drink offerings, and a basket of bread made with the finest flour and without yeast—thick loaves with olive oil mixed in, and thin loaves brushed with olive oil.

16 “‘The priest is to present all these before the Lord and make the sin offering and the burnt offering. 17 He is to present the basket of unleavened bread and is to sacrifice the ram as a fellowship offering to the Lord, together with its grain offering and drink offering.

18 “‘Then at the entrance to the tent of meeting, the Nazirite must shave off the hair that symbolizes their dedication. They are to take the hair and put it in the fire that is under the sacrifice of the fellowship offering.

One thing says "no" to me. Isaiah says that the face of Jesus would be marred so much that

Isaiah 52:14 says no.
13Behold, My Servant will prosper;e

He will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as many were appalled at Him - His appearance was disfigured beyond that of any man, and His form was marred beyond human likeness.........

I had a friend who had a head on and he went through the car windscreen (seat belt broke from the impact). It was 2 weeks before I could visit him. He'd had plastic surgery, but I was still shocked. It was a genuine miracle that he survived. I don't see that the face in the shroud suffered that kind of injury.

The assumption has been that Jesus was a Nazirite. There is no evidence for that. But that is why the long hair. I don't buy it either.
