My y2k Ford Explorer has been my lifes enterprise since the couple years I've had it.
I got it from my older sister, who wasn't careful to keep it in ship shape. Before that, it had 3 previous owners. It was worn-out, beat up, and un-loved in my first days using it. But it's a tough thing. It had been sitting idle for over a year without being started when my dad first started it, and it spun up and started driving right away with hardly any hassle.
Its tires were a size too small, and the back glass on the rear door was falling off its hinges. The radio was broken, and the windsheild glass was cracked (which it still is). The suspension was all worn out with ball joint boots broke open, transmission and differential fluids never changed, leaking rear main seal (about to fix now), and other things worn and broken that I still need to work on.

But now I've fixed it up to the point where it's going to be my lifetime vehicle.
Well, not entirely me. It's God who planned to bring this thing into the world, and I've only been the mere vessel who received the plans and assembled it. But I enjoyed working on it, so I suppose me and God have built it together. Amen.

The first thing I did was fix those hinges with washers and new nuts, then I replaced the fogged-up headlamps in the front with LED halo ones, changing the factory air intake to a universal cone-filter one in the process. Then I went on to replace the busted factory radio with two better ones; an unlocked euro-import CB and a multi-band radio scanner stacked on each other right in its place.

It's hard to go on with what I've done and doing with it now, because it gets crazy, and will still get crazier. But I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. All work you see was done by my hands, the only things I've taken it to a shop for were for the tires, suspension alignment, and brake fluid.

Since I consider myself a jack-of-all-tradesman, I need a beacon to reflect that I will perform any trade at a moments notice.
So, I have installed amber/white lights to flash when I do so.

The lights in the windsheild, sides, and rear glas were what I've had installed for a few months.
The following pics of installing this liight in the bumper was done a couple weeks ago. (because one can't see the lights in the tailgate glass when it's up).

Wiring it up through the left tail light into the cab with the rest of the lights, this is the finished product:
ANMP0001.jpg
These are all controlled by a single switch I've installed in the drivers door, using a coily wire I cut out from another device to connect it to the wiring behind the inner trim:
(In this picture, the inner cab is dasassembled because of what I'm working on with it right now.)
ANMP0018.jpg
Yes, the megaphone self-tapped into the panel above the hood is what it seems. The CB I have installed in there also has a PA funcion, which I wasn't going to leave un-utilizable.

Besides the radios, I also installed a gamecube, and since air bags kill people, I removed the one in the passenger-side dashboard and replaced it with a TV for it, which can also receive live broadcasts too.
ANMP0009.jpg
ANMP0008_001.jpg

I also strapped in two (2) power inverters to the center console, hooked up to the secondary battery, a 400-watt and 100-watt.
ANMP0011.jpg
The secondary battery with its isolator was a bit of a journey to wire in, and this is how the job turned out:
ANMP0021.jpg
ANMP0025.jpg
The big red wire goes into the right fromt panel through the engine bay, then down & up through the bottom of the foor in the cab, then run to the secondary battery.
ANMP0023.jpg
In order to keep that secondary battery perpetually maintained, I also bolted a solar panel to the roof of the vehicle.

ANMP0028.jpg
ANMP0007.jpg
No leaks, sealed everything with sealent. The wire runs straight into the battery, and the battery itself has a male cigarette lighter plug wired straight up to its terminals, so in case the engine bay battery ever dies, I can jumpstart it with the extra battery from within the cab.
The main disadvantage is that I had to cut up the roof inside to make sure I had it all nice & neat:
ANMP0026.jpg

Now, this is what I'm doing today;
I installed a monitor display in the dashboard, so that I can monitor the charge of the secondary battery.
ANMP0019.jpg
And also a double on switch, which I plan to use for two 'BEEP-BEEP' (reverse sirens you hear on dump trucks & such), installing them at the front and rear of the vehicle:
ANMP0020.jpg
On the radio panel, I'm hard-installing one of those cigarette-lighter FM transmitters, so I can play my favorite musics on the radio scanner:
ANMP0035.jpg

Yes, I inhaled much plastic dust and lead solder fumes in the process of building this all.

After this, I plan to do more upgrades and fixes to the drivetrain, replacing some parts in the transmission, and upgrading the whole differential. I'm also going to change all the u-joints, stearing linkage, and there's still other bridges I'll cross when I get to them. Since I did some tweaking to the ECU with one of those ODBII devices, and now my truck doesn't like to settle for anything less than mid-grade gas. I also plan to de-cat the exhaust system, since now I only use deisel engine oil.

I don't know when or where I'll stop, but I hope one day to have a car that does everything.

I've been working on hand dipped chocolate truffles and home made cookies....Christmas presents for everyone.

Miles and miles of little brown piles.

Around 800 cookies and 1200 truffles.

related to John 7 :38- "he that believeth on me as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water".

still trying to get a worthy band going. lots of dreamers around here who don't want to put the work in to becoming a great musician.

Jesus' words from John 7 v 37-38 and John 4 v 14 If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said: ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.' But this He spoke of the Spirit. Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a fount of water springing up to eternal life.

Were you wearing a mask? If not, in future please protect yourself and wear some type of mask when doing that type of work...

I lived in Nashville for decades. The number of posers and lazy musicians was insane. Lots of people could talk a good game but when it came time for consistent practice and jam sessions to increase coordination they ALWAYS had excuses.

Then there's the name droppers who acted as if they were equals or best buddies with the famous and successful movers and shakers in the music industry.
Thenthere's those who collected and traded instruments constantly....as if a better guitar or instrument was going to help their performance ability. (Nope)

Me? I can only carry a tune when handing out CDs or hymnals.
But I helped in the booth with the AV. I learned the elements of performance and how absolutely necessary practicing enough that you perform flawlessly when it mattered really was.
If you can't absolutely nail that opening first line of a song you haven't practiced enough. A weak opening start of a song sets a lousy expectation of your talent and does nothing but make people wish they had not spent the trouble coming to see you perform.

So....
I feel your pain...
Keep after it...you will eventually get there.

Nonchalantly interacting with synthetic carcinogens is a theme I've had throughout my life. I've figured its effects on me can't be much worse than all the pollotution the rest of the world is facing. I'm just adapting to the new age.

& to mention the salesmen type of musician who talks talent but has none. he or she is constantly trying to convince people with words that they know nearly everything & can hit the high note without will. back in Jan. of this year, a lady was massively interested in being in a band but wouldn't practice her vocals. so the guitarist gave her vocal lessons after the 5th lesson she disappeared forever. she later said to me on the phone, "so what if i hit a few flat notes"! she was singing flat every other measure. the music scene here is awful. i may have to wait til i get to heaven to be in a band!!!!!!! c u John DB!

Been super busy today putting a storage building back together that was badly damaged. It was challenging and looking at it now I'm thinking it might look like a drunken redneck put it together  (no, I'm not drinking!)
Given the circumstances, that's not so bad lol.

Well....if it don't look right try again but this time drink a lot of beer and see if it comes out right. Sometimes a little adult beverages can make things easier and more straight.

I see, I should've started drinking before I worked on the project! The way I did it, not having drank before or during, it about drove me to drink by the time I was finished lol.

Construction projects are a series of overcoming obstacles and problems. I did it for years. Nothing is as simple as it first appears and takes more trips to the hardware store than you ever wanted to make. That first trip....that's only what you think you need. The next trips are for what you need to overcome the obstacles.

Thankfully, I had everything I needed for this particular project...except next time I'll be sure to also pick up some beer! 🍻

See?
I already know what happened....

For every construction problem they do make a tool to use that fixes everything. It's made in that wonderful little town in Alabama named China. (Pronounced chee-na)
That's why all tools are stamped with it.
Because
Friends don't let friends use tools made in Pakistan. (People always get hurt using those)

So....what I'm hearing is that you didn't make enough trips to the hardware store. Because once is NEVER enough.

I'll know better next time. Obviously, I needed the beer much sooner than I realized!
