There's a whole book here I am sure.

I was prompted to examine the account of the Lord's dealing with the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15. Here's the passage:

21Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”

23But He answered her not a word.
And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”

24But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

25Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”

26But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

27And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

28Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

I have heard it taught that Jesus was sent only to "the lost sheep of the house of Israel".
This is axiomatic: it's written right there in the text. Never argue about what the black and white (and sometimes red) of what the text reads.

However, what some people think is that "the lost sheep of the house of Israel" means "Jews" or "Israelites". So, when they teach the passage, they teach that Jesus was only sent to the natural Jews.

But let's look at what actually happens in the passage.

Woman cries out.
Disciples tell Jesus to send her away.
Jesus says "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
I can only assume that the disciples believe the Lord will ignore her completely after His remark.
BUT the woman worships Him and says "Lord, help me!"

The story ends with the the woman's daughter being healed.

"Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour."

Paul would write: "For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

And this is what we are seeing here.

HOWEVER, there is more...

Jesus cannot lie. He was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. So who is the woman from Canaan?
A lost sheep from the house of Israel.

Not by birth, but by faith.
Paul would also write: "For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel"

And this is my point: The Lord's use of Israel, here, is to be understood spiritually, not physically.

Further, might see, when Peter was taken to the Gentile house. led by God in the Spirit of God. Saw Cornelius' house get saved by God, in belief to God speaking truth through Peter to them of risen Son for them. Peter. who illegally entered the Gentile house according to Jewish traditions. Saw what he saw and went to the orher disciples and told them without any tradition(s) God saved them before any water Baptism. or any confession.
They got given freely. Then the other disciples had to see for themselves and spy out this liberty

Today through religions, there are many have to's, better do's or else not in
That is not God Father in risen Son doing that is it?

Jesus actually speaks what makes one "a lost sheep of the house of Israel" when He addresses the woman:

“O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.”

This notion, that faith makes one included in the people of God, is expounded upon by Paul in Galatians chapter 3:

"Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham."

So faith, not physical DNA, determines if a person is included in the lineage of Abraham according to the Spirit.

"..only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham"

The promises given to Abraham by God are inherited only by those in Abraham's spiritual lineage:

"And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise."

This is the line of spiritual succession, from one to another, that Paul walked in with Timothy:

"To Timothy, a true son in the faith..."
"I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord..."

You will find words that we typically use to describe natural connections in families used in the same way to denote spiritual connections to others by faith in the Lord.

Timothy is Paul's son
Peter writes to his children.
Paul is the father of the believers in Corinth.
Titus is Paul's son.
John writes to "My dear children..."
Paul "gives birth" to Onesimus while imprisoned.

"I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains..."

This is a birthing of one's faith. Paul is not the father of Onesimus's spirit. He is the father of his faith.

I could go on. But is is most important that we do not see the reality of a spiritual family lineage through faith as a mere point of the gospel. This truth seasoned the language of everyone the Lord sent: like a golden thread woven from the creation account through the New Testament, its track is unmistakable.

It is the language of a house, if we understand house to mean "family". We are of the house of Israel, the house of Abraham, the house of the Lord, the house of the Living God. And our entrance into this eternal house is by faith: for the Gentile and the Jew alike.

Jesus was sent in the first coming for the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

But NOW, today, after the resurrection the Gospel goes to every nation:

Matthew 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Did you miss where He treated the Canaanite woman as a lost sheep of the house of Israel?

This was why the encounter took place, IMO. So that there would be an example for His disciples and for the reader of the scriptures.

The salient point is this: The Lord ALWAYS viewed membership in the house of Israel as a function of faith and not of physical DNA.

It was actually a matter of physical circumcision. People without faith were part of the house of Israel as long as they were cicumcised, but no one who wasn't circumcised could be and anyone in ,the world could be a part of Israel if they became circumcised.

That sign of a covenant ("You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you.") did not lead back to Christ and was therefore a temporary, conditional covenant. That was why the council at Jerusalem did not include it among the directives to the Gentile believers. Ultimately, circumcision showed that neither the natural man nor the flesh would interfere with or get credit for the Seed to Come, who is Christ.

We are made one with Father and Son as Won for us to be in with them and One

This being one with Father and Son, amazes me to remain humble and harmless too, thank you

I have always wondered about that.

The mosaic covenant is eternal, as is the Abrahamic one. But in the new covenant, circumcision is treated as a non-essential. Even though it is essential in both eternal covenants:

Genesis 17:12Generation after generation, every male must be circumcised when he is eight days old, including those born in your household and those purchased from a foreigner—even those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether they are born in your household or purchased, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh will be an everlasting covenant.

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.” (Deuteronomy 7:9)

Yet Hebrews 8:13 states: “In speaking of a new covenant, He has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.”

Membership in the old covenant and natural Israel was via physical circumcision. Membership in the new covenant and spiritual Israel is via spiritual circumcusion.

Mat 15:22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
Mat 15:23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
Mat 15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Jesus did not answer her and told the disciples He was only sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

So Jesus was only sent to address Israel and that was His mission.

Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Jesus told the disciples not to go to the Gentiles or Samaria.

But God is a merciful God that said the Gentiles could take hold of the Old Testament Covenant and be blessed.

And the Gentiles can take hold of the New Testament Covenant and be blessed.

Jesus only dealt with Israel but if a Gentile approached Him and wanted a blessing He would not turn them away.

For God is a merciful God so this is not a contradiction for any person that cries out to Him whether Jew or Gentile will not be turned away.

Mat 15:25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
Mat 15:26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
Mat 15:27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
Mat 15:28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Jesus did not seek her out, did not come to address her, for He was only sent to deal with Israel.

But she came to Him so Jesus healed her daughter.

Mat 8:5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
Mat 8:6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
Mat 8:7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

The centurion approached Jesus.

Mar 7:31 And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.
Mar 7:32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.
Mar 7:33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
Mar 7:34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

The man was brought unto Jesus.

Luk 17:11 And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
Luk 17:12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
Luk 17:13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
Luk 17:14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

The 10 met Jesus and cried out to Him.

Jesus during His ministry to the lost sheep of Israel there would be Gentiles sometimes around Him which if they approached Him then He would heal them.

For God is a merciful God.

Joh 4:7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.
Joh 4:8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)
Joh 4:9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Joh 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

Joh 4:20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
Joh 4:21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
Joh 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

Joh 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
Joh 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

Joh 4:28 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,
Joh 4:29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?
Joh 4:30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

Here is an exception where the woman did not ask anything of Jesus.

But the Samaritans are half Jewish which they worshipped the God of Israel.

Which she told the people and they came to Jesus.

It seems like Jesus addressed her to get the ball rolling in Samaria and then the people would come to Him for His mission was Israel.

Even though Jesus was only sent to Israel the Gentiles would still know about Jesus and His message by people talking and hearing Him in action and words.

I have always wondered about that.

I speak mainly to me in my experience going through troubles and not quitting belief to God in risen son, even thoufh feelings have tried to quit. Truth came through and taught me to not let feeling lead, thank you Lord and is for us all too.
Noting this also.: Moses was not circumcised physically, until Zepporah, his wife did that in Exodus Circumcise Moses. I think Exodus 4 when on their way to Egypt to free the Hebrews in slavery then, as was called to do by God working it out through him., to free them.
Amazing, of coarse this was before Law was given by God through Moses to the people, That was not fulfilled yet, people tried and still try to do Law and are either guilty or in pride over it! what today is fulfilled by Son (no one else can do perfect as is now done by Son Hebrews 10:10, John 19:30). Done once for us all to react to in Thanksgiving and praise to God Father, now seeing Psalm 103:12 fulfilled in Son, Jesus for us to be new and walk in the same love as Son did first. for us all to choose and see too, God Father granting this to each person in sincere belief as God knows what is what and who is who. God reveals differently to each child to us all as we each grow differently into maturity, thanks to God Father and Son as Won (One) for us
Hebrews 5:12-6-18, Col. 1:21-22, John 19:30, Hebrews 9:14-17

Ezekiel 33:13

Authorized (King James) Version

13 When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.

That is where I see to not ever take this granted gift form of God for granted and harm anyone else in the process over it, for any self gain here on earth! Nor continue to be aware under Law so much to not do sin, that I do sin over it Romans 7, in what I chose not to do anymore between God and me. Now Upholding Law Romans 3:31 as good and to be out from under Law that has gotten me to sin over and over and over again and again. Seeing, now whenever get under Law, again and accuse, abuse and excuse myself or anyone else, I now, turn to God in thanksgiving and praise for taking all sin away through Son, Jesus first. John 1:29. For me and all people ever born in flesh first, thanks to Son who is perfect in obedience first. I John 4:18-19 Now trusting, asking in trust to God Father to teach me to see how to not do that again and learn this in humility not pride ever again. Thank you Lord, been through things myself, the same as everyone else, and do go through too,
I see to live by Faith you give Dad, Father, PaPa. I am Still learning daily this graceful truth from you by Son, thank you
And standing in Col 1<:21-23

Everyone in Israel was a lost sheep in the house of Israel until they believed in Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

Everyone in Israel was a lost sheep in the house of Israel until they believed in Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

Everyone in first birth of flesh to begin with under Adam the first are born dead. Dead to God, needing the Spirit of God to lead them in love to all, not a few as only the first born flesh can do, and continues to try to do, Romans 8:3
The way, the truth and new life offered is in the risen Son for us all 1 John 2:1-27. see "It is finished" John 19:30, for new life to enter you too, and all that choose to believe God and not let go. No mater how much troubles one, anyone might go through, will you? Even unto death willingly as Son did that for us all. Done once, to give new life to all in his risen life offered to believe too. God Father imputes righteousness, and we see new and give no credit to self in doing it. To keep humble, no more prideful Luke 18:9-14
Believe God, receive and see new in truth from God leading you in love and mercy to all too, woe is me Isaiah 6:1-7 this is the gift from God, not of any work(s), if is, then Grace has no effect to work through anyone. I see 1 Cor 15 clearer than when I first read through that chapter anyone else? Same with the rest of the Bible messages from God through the disciples writings
Especially Son is risen where new life is given the only way, to rest in love and mercy, whether another believes yet or not.
God with us in Son for us. Now God With us in Spirit and Truth. Are we ready to accept God, believe God and walk new in love and mercy to all too? God Father does that through anyone that will not quit belief to see through, no matter how long it might take. No impatience with Daddy, Father, PaPa for anyone. Love 1 Cor 13:4-7 ask for the imputation, thank you

God changed Jacob's name to be no more called Jacob, but to be called Israel. Most of the scriptures in the new testament, when referring to Israel, is not referencing the nation of Israel, but is speaking of Israel/Jacob, witch represents all of God's elect people who are scattered from every kindred, and tongue and people, and nation (Rev5::9-10). God blinded most of his elect because of their turning away from him and began to worship idols, but he left in the midst of them a remnant in whom The Holy Spirit has revealed to them the knowledge of Christ's doctrine (Zeph 3:11-13).

Did you miss where He treated the Canaanite woman as a lost sheep of the house of Israel?

This was why the encounter took place, IMO. So that there would be an example for His disciples and for the reader of the scriptures.
The lost sheep of the house of Israel/Jacob, (whom God changed his name to be called Israel) are those of God's elect to whom God blinded their eyes to see the truth of Christ's doctrine because they turned away from God and began to worship idols.

My comment:

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are Hebrews, not Jews. you will never find them called Jews.

the first time the term Jew is used is in 1 or 2 Kings, the Jews were at war with the House of Israel.

After Solomon, God divided the 12 tribes, 10 Tribes into the House of Israel and 2 tribes into the House of Judah.
The slang term for Judah is "Jew", Jew-dah

the House of Israel was taken into captivity 130 years before the Jews and were moved north way out of the Promised Land and are now know as "the Lost ten Tribes,

Christ sent the 12 apostles to the House of Israel, not to the Jews. the Jews rejected Christ and still do.
All Jews are Hebrews but not all Hebrews are Jews.

All the nations of old are still here but some under different names, The physical 12 tribes of Hebrews still exist, God loses nothing.
